I can innocently smile to the neighbours
We have neighbours, whose cats seem to enjoy leaving their insides, outside over my lawn and its borders. (God knows what they get fed). With lawn mowing season approaching - and a newly crawling baby nephew, I needed some feline "attitude adjustment" tool. M18 Claymore mines aren’t available on Amazon, but the Pestbye device appeared to have many similarities. Its a directional, heat triggered sentry device, which stands mutely, diligently, waiting around the clock in all weathers…. They are even olive drab and silent to humans, so you only upset the cat’s sensitivities, and not its owner! If you're expecting to see cats explode, or stagger around clutching their ears like an Edward Munch picture – you won’t. The results are subtle and may take a few days. Remember, you’re dealing with a spoiled feline mind that has been cultivated to do exactly what it wants, when it wants, and (until you buy this) wherever it wants! You get two such devices, which have a metal pole at the rear, allowing you to position the device to target a specific area, or create a “crossfire” of ultra-sonic sound across your yard. There's an opaque censor on the front, which picks up movement, and glows purply red when triggered - so you can see when it’s working. (Well, you can’t hear it otherwise!) The arc of coverage is particularly impressive - about 90 degrees straight forward, but mainly horizontal. I presume it only omits a noise while the target is in the censor arc, so you may want to position it low, at cat height in order to increase the target’s time in the zone. Each scarer works on three AA batteries, with a battery box that uses four, very fine Philips screws. (That's a serious design flaw as you need the right watchmaker tools to undo it, and the screws will stick, go rusty and probably get chewed up when being removed!)However, in my experience the devices appear to have worked a treat. Having cleared the scene of all previous “kitty crimes”, I cleared lines of sight of foliage and interlocked the beams to get my message home - and in stereo! There has consequently been a complete failure by the culprits to "reoffend." Sure, they do move through the garden, but now its swiftly and avoiding our former, mutual “ambush” site. So, expect to relocate your devices frequently as they learn the blind spots.I found these devices good value for money and mean that I can now smile openly again, while strimming the lawn.

Worked for me - no more cats!
My garden was being used as a litter tray by several cats. There was a smell that certainly was not of my flowers or herbs. I tried planting rosemary and sprinkling coffee grounds as a deterrent to no effect, fouling continued. I had heard mixed reviews of this sonic type of animal deterrent but it was worth a try. Success! Admittedly I have both units overlapping in my small garden but no fouling has occurred since using them and no cats seen. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

RUBBISH - DO NOT LAST
Well these work great to deter cats the first time you put batteries in, but they DO NOT withstand weather, even in sheltered areas. I have put a 2nd lot of batteries in and they are making a funny sound and a cat stood there in front of the sensor the other day and just looked at me as if like 'well your silly sensor doesn't work anymore!'So to spend that much money for approx 3 months of use.... no thank you. I have gone through many of these sensors before from other retailers and they just do not cope well in rainy weather. The screws are also so tiny so difficult to remove back to replace batteries.I'm not going to pay the money anymore for these, the dog will just have to bark when the cats keep using the passage way to cut through and we will just have to watch out for cat poo if we use the passage way.I WOULDNT RECOMMEND THESE UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY TO REPLACE THEM EVERY 3 MONTHS WHEN THEY STOP WORKING!

The devices were viciously attacked by a fox
The device has rounded rather than sharp edged stakes and so are not easy to push into the ground. I decided to tape them using strong duct tape to two garden posts, set about 7 foot apart. When I moved in front of the devices in the dark, I could see the round detectors on them glow red and heard them making a rickety noise. So, they seem to be working? But did they repel the foxes? Well, a couple of days later I found that BOTH devices had been wrenched from the posts and were now a few feet away on the lawn covered in mud. Another deep hole had been dug in front of the pillars (perhaps in retaliation?). Clearly the fox had become maddened by the annoying noise in their ear drums and decided rather than run away that they would tackle the problem head-on by attacking the devices. It would have taken a bit of effort to remove them from the posts because the duct tape had gone round the whole of the posts. If I had inserted them into the ground then I am sure the fox would have pushed them over or dug them out much more easily than it was to tear them from the pillars where they were taped. So, these devices do seem to make the foxes uncomfortable ( or annoy them, even) but city foxes are now so bold and brazen that they will defend spaces that they have come to regard as their 'own' rather than just go somewhere else. Maybe these devices should come with screw holes so they can be securely screwed to garden fences, to stop foxes from taking them away?
