SHARGE Disk M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure with Active Cooling System

Neat little m.2 2230 sized device. I purchased a wd blue 128gb drove for it and put it all together. I didnt do any speed tests though a few large file transfers as a rudimentary test shows it works well. I purchased this to run Nomad BSD on. I noticed some people complained about the door needing to be open on the case when plugged in as the fan cant suck air otherwise. Theres a good reason, the entire case is silicone with a plastic window and dust cover, its meant specifically for protection of the elements. The door opens for airflow or removal and closes and seals quite tightly to protect. Its effectively a super fancy usb but it looks very slick, is super fast.

As a photographer I go through ssds like crazy. This ssd enclosure is amazing and really convenient. Instead of spending 100+ on a portable ssd I can simply just buy the chip and swap it out when it gets full. It’s so easy to do and saves you a ton of money on the long run. If this product lasts as long as the build quality makes it seem like it will, I will definitely be buying more. It has a built in usb c in it so there’s no need for another cable in my bag. So far the speeds are as advertised and the fan built in keeps it so much cooler making it functional and I don’t have to worry about burning myself if I accidentally touch it. Super compact, Definitely recommend!

Excellent product beyond expectations. Included 2 silicon thermal dissipation patches an 2 extra fixation rubber pins. I’m really impressed with the quality and design. Five stars! Just love the comfort of this little device, it’s so convenient. Does come with a usb-c lanyard/cable, very handy and functional it worth every penny. I just to take to the benchmark for testing the speeds. It comes in an elegant box property packaged.

So, I got this thing because I pulled out a little 2230 sized NVME drive from a micro optiplex but couldn’t find a system to put it in without using tape to hold it. Thought “screw it, I could use some portable storage.” It’s easy to setup, incredibly compact, and comes with a lil cable, that also seems to function as a keyring (although I wouldn’t completely trust it), if you need extra length. I can’t quite confirm if the max of 10gbps speed is correct as I can’t recall if my drive is even up to those speeds, but I was able to get about 9-8.5gbps (1000mb/s) in crystaldiskmark, so I wouldn’t doubt it. It also comes with a little protective carrying case which is what I assume to be water proof too. You can’t really have it closed around it however, as there are no air holes for the fan through the case. It is however made to have the clear plastic open and keep airflow, so you don’t really have to take it out of the shell every time you want to use it. A neat little thing that I noticed is that it even has write protection, thought it was a lock for the drive so it doesn’t move which confused me for a bit lol. With that being said, there are some gripes I have with this. For one, and a really big one, the fan is incredibly annoying. Maybe not incredibly noisy, you could probably block it out with earphones or it’ll mix with the fans running on something like a gaming handheld, but it’s very noticeable nonetheless, like noticeable even across the room with people talking. Luckily, it does turn off if temps are down, which is another smaller issue I have, but there also isn’t an adjuster for the fan speeds or even just a simple off button. Second, for a fan cooled portable NVME drive, it doesn’t run it very cool. Now, I’m not saying it leaves the drives at dangerous or throttling temps, but under a crystaldiskmark run, I saw it reach up to 71c without the case, with the fan exposed, and only a PCIe 3.0 drive ie. best case scenario. Those aren’t terrible temps, plus the benchmark is the worst case scenario, but if you’re moving lots of files I could see it easily reaching those temps if not hotter. My question is, why not put more thermal mass? Yeah, it looks awesome but the fan is annoying and doesn’t seem to do much. Overall, it’s a nice compact storage holder and would be perfect for those people who upgraded their storage on a steamdeck, Ally, legion go, etc and had that little drive but nowhere to put it, or just people who need a little compact storage holder. The fan is definitely annoying.

this is an amazing product. I purchased it to put the m.2 from my steamdeck in after I upgraded it. its tough and durable and fast enough to still use for gaming. its now being used as an external gaming drive on my main pc an runs games faster that my sata SSD I also have. This adapter is simple, inexpensive, and keeps the drive cool. I use this with a Batocera m.2 drive for playing retro games. Sooo, I wanted one that has active cooling since the drive is being used as the operating system. I thought it might be a gimmick bc the air flow is not directed to flow across the drive, but I'm glad to say that doesn't matter and it works. Using the drive as the operating system, constantly reading & writing really caused it to heat up when I was using a none cooled enclosure. This one does the trick and I didn't have to mess with modifying the airflow. *Take it out of the case when using it or keep the clear door open so it can flow air.

For what it is, it is useful and works but is it the best? I don't think so. It gets dirty fast, the rubber plug for the USB-c can't be opened without a long fingernail or screwdriver and the cable is a hassle to take out. You also can't plug it directly into your phone if you have a case, not enough clearance. Heat dissipation is fine, I appreciate the fan but it is certainly not quiet.

This thing is awesome if you have a small 2230 ssd laying around buy this and make it a flash drive I also bought a female USB C to male usb a 3.0 to put with this so I can use with any computer.

Can’t use it ever since I bought it. Paid a lot but the product is unusable. I tried formatting it but the error still persist. Inaccessible under read only option.

I was tossing up between this and the DockCase Mini to turn into an ultra speed daily driver flash drive. I ended up going with the DockCase because the little oled screen had a really cool aesthetic factor that I loved. I should have gotten this Sharge instead. Turns out the DockCase is incompatible with a bunch of drives, including some of the best and highest recommended ones on the market (the TLC NAND Corsair MP600 Mini that I bought, for example) This was not clear at the time of purchase, and I'm not sure but I have a strong feeling it was added to the 'incompatibility list' after I'd bought the case and drive together. Anyway I bought another drive to fit in that, and bought this Sharge case to re-home the MP600. Speed is as-expected for 10Gbps "3.2G2x1". Of a theoretical maximum 1,250MB/s it hits a little under 1,050MB/s which is both perfectly normal and blazing fast. I absolutely LOVE the fast that it has physicalized switchable write protection. In my job as a tech, it's very common that I need to plug into a customer's PC that has who knows what kind of viruses and malware waiting to jump onto anything the comes near it, and it's such a comforting feeling knowing I can plug this in to copy a program they need TO their PC without having to worry about getting any little unwanted presents back in return. Write protection is something that I think is far too rare these days. Another thing I love is that it has a male Type-C connector, so you can plug it directly into a USB-C port. Most mini NMVe enclosures in this style have a port and use a Male/Male cable to go between the enclosure and host. This has a Female/Male extension cable for easier access to harder to reach ports, but also has the option to just plug directly into the host without the cable, in cases where the bulk of the enclosure itself allows this. You do need to take the actual disk enclosure out of the silicone protective case to do this, which in itself is a con (more difficult and time consuming to access) but offset by the two pros of this almost halving the physical size making it more likely to fit wherever you're trying to insert it, and being a better design for damage prevention. If the connector was able to stick out of the silicone case, it would just be waiting to snap off. The advertised use of the extension cable as a lanyard concerns me a bit. It's a nice option to have if you need it, but I worry that carrying it around like this long-term would case the cable to fail sooner than it otherwise might. I'll just keep it in my pocket. The fan is a little gimmicky I'll admit and there's no arguing that you can hear it- however it's not nearly as loud as some of the other reviews I read here make it out to be. This was one of the major things that turned me off this enclosure, and it's really a non-issue; unless maybe you work in an ultra quiet environment where this is the only noise you can hear, then I can see how it might become grating. The fan does turn off either below some unknown temperature threshold or when the drive is idle, it's not always-on with the drive plugged in. This is a huge 10/10 for me. Definitely the best 2230 NVMe enclosure currently on the market, in my opinion.

This is an excellent device if you have an nvme drive kicking around from your upgraded rog Ally or steam deck. Check out my review on YouTube. Look for 8 Bit Canada. I have several of these devices and one of the main problems of these devices is heat nvme drives, newer generations, give off tremendous amount of heat and will end up throttling and slowing down your transfers. This device has a mini fan and keeps the temperatures cool. You are paying a premium price but it's worth it if you have a 2280 they stay a bit cooler and having a full aluminum enclosure would probably be good enough. But for these small little 2230s this is the device they get
