Without his memory for an alibi. Can DI Ruiz prove his innocence?
Another exellent novel by Michael Robotham. Vincent Ruiz has been shot in the leg. Another bullet in the hand. He is lucky to be alive. Clinging onto a buoy in the River Thames he was found. For six days he was in a coma. When he eventually comes out of the coma he has no recollection of how he was in the Thames, why he was shot. Over time pieces come together in his mind, but the authorities do not believe him. The story is about a missing girl who disappeared three years ago. A picture of her is found in his pocket. The girl is presumed dead, but Ruiz is convinced she is still alive and in danger. The hunt is on.Can he find her before before his enimies strike again? A must read for the many fans of this exceptional author.

Michael Robotham is a great author but...
Michael Robotham is a great author but in my opinion this is not one of his better books. I really enjoyed his debut novel, The Suspect and so decided to read the next two books. I have recently finished both books and this review is for The Drowning Man which is the second in the series. Whereas the Suspect was written from the viewpoint of the psychologist character, Professor Joe O'Loughlin The Drowning Man is written from the viewpoint of DI Vincent Ruiz. Both characters are in all 3 books. The main issue I had with this book is it just didn't hold my attention in the same way as The Suspect and Shatter. I am not sure if that was just because of the change of viewpoint but I think it was more likely because of the plot. I don't think the plot flowed that well and it was pretty unbelievable that an elderly detective who had been shot could chase around as much as he did. In addition the sewer scenes dragged somewhat. I'm glad I read it to fill in details of the character of Ruiz but I was much happier reading the third book, Shatter.

FLOTSAM & JETSAM?.......
........No, it's DI Vincent Ruiz found clinging to a a buoy in the River Thames (as one does when you find yourself bobbing along down the river). Oh and by the by, he has been shot and has lost his memory. And if this isn't enough for the hapless master detective his colleagues are none too impressed by this seemingly irresponsible manner for such a 'super-dick' to go about his business, so it's up to Ruiz to come up with the answers for his little amnesic float down the Thames sporting a gunshot wound. Not to worry in true and typical fashion Michael Rowbotham crafts (which is what Ruiz must have wished he had) a gripping, fast moving tale, written in the present tense to add to the sense of the reader actually perceiving being involved and in attendance as the story evolves.A master story teller well worth the read.

Not his best
This novel - the story of a child abducted three years before, doubts over whether the right person has been convicted of her murder, absence of a body and the protagonist's desperate search for her (he believes her still to be alive) could be a good one. It has all the igredients for a rattling good thriller: a fast-paced plot, twists and turns, and a surprise ending. But...for me it didn't quite work out. While the ending was a surprise, and I wanted to keep on reading until that ending, the story also became a bit confusing. There were just too many characters, too much happened, and towards the end, I had trouble keeping track of who everyone was. This may say more about me than it does about the novel, but Micahel Rowbotham is capable of a much cleaner, clearer thriller. His novel Shatter is still my favourite; it has all the pace and excitement, with none of the confusion. Having said that, I would still recommend his fans to try this one; but don't buy it. Borrow it from the library, as I did.

Told through different eyes
Very interesting to see the story told through the policeman's eyes this time. The psychologist still there, helping. Great storylines with lots of twists and turn, then more twists and turns!

Great story
We met Det.Ruiz in the author's previous book "Suspect",but here he is the main event, and what an event he is!He is much more interesting than the insipid Doctor who was the feature character of "Suspect".His mother is a gypsy who spent time in the concentration camp brothels for German officers...and Ruiz is the product of one/some of those liaisons.Tortured with guilt about his father(s),unable to hang onto his own wife and children, and absolutely driven to find the perpetrators of any crime he investigates.Wow!He is the kind of cop you want on your side.More stories about Ruiz, please?

Poor Condition
Poor condition, and small book which als has small print. Not read the book as yet, but imagine it to be in line with the rest of the series, Great. Wouldn’t purchase from these again nor recommend.

Average compared to his first book.
Average compared to his first book. I’m still not quite sure what happened or who did what. It’s put me in two minds as to whether I’ll read another.

Supi!

Good psychological whodunnit
I enjoyed this very much; it doesn't follow the hackneyed plot you find so often, it's protagonists are original characters well fleshed out, it's credible.

Be careful
The Drowning Man is identical to 'Lost' by Michael Robotham so be careful you do not pay twice for the same book. If you have done so go to My Kindle - Aktionen and send it back.

Book previously titled Lost - don't get taken
i hate when authors do this. This book came out previously with another title Lost. I just paid to get book I already read. Not sure whose decision it was to do this but really angry at whoever did it.

I Thought I had missed a book by Robotham. Not so. This is Lost republished. I good book but that should be written somewhere so people don't buy duplicates.

Really enjoyed this. It was nice to have Vincent Ruiz as the main character in place of Joe O'laughlin. Cleverly thought out story. Fast paced. Great read.
