Very user friendly
I got this for my 11 year old grandson with a drum set that I bought him for his birthday. It has really helped him understand the basics of playing the drums.

It's a lot of piano music, drums can barely be heard in background
This book is great if you want to play the piano. In the songs and audio clips I can hear other instruments clearly but I can hardly pick out the drums in the some of the songs. At this point, I'll go back to watching youtube videos instead.

Covers everything in a easy method
I am not a drummer I am a guitar player but I have a very nice set of drums for whoever wants to play with me therefore I can play them some and you don’t mind the stress of having to comprehend book as you read it at speed and keeping time. I think it’s the easiest method that one can do this if you’re willing to do your and that’s why I give it five stars

An excellent and fun resource for new and experienced drummers
I found the content, organization, and presentation to be ideal for learning the various styles and techniques. Gregg Bissonette is entertaining and informative in the associated videos. I have accumulated a bookcase full of drum instructions books and DVDs and have found something enjoyable in all of them, but if I were to buy a single book, this would be the one. I started with drums late in life and took instruction from an excellent teacher for around 10 years. This book provided a really good review of things I knew and provided some entertaining insight into things I didn't. One additional plus - the exercise audio is all music. I have lots of book/audio combinations where the audio is just drums. Being able to play the grooves and styles in the lessons with a speed adjustable / style-consistent band was really helpful.

Every drum teacher will wish that they wrote this book. Students will benefit from a realistic approach to drumset competence.
This is a terrific introductory drum set method. Every exercise and song chart is set to music so that the student can get a feel for musical organization and phrasing right from the beginning. It is very well organized and rationally progressive, taking the student from "here is a drumstick, to World and Latin music and everything in between. The book is filled with charts, practice ideas, and an extensive online repertoire of exercise accompaniments. There is really nothing out there quite like it, or in my opinion as good. Greg Bissonette does a great job explaining the music and exercises with good humor and, of course, his customary superior mastery. Kennan Wylie has written a very useful method book for the studying drumset artist. Supplemented by teacher provided rudiments, reading elements, and exercises this book should quickly become one of our pedagogic "Biblical Texts". The book has an extensive glossary and a really good discography. A computer or tablet will be necessary to take advantage of the huge online content. (A special thank you to the genius who decided to "spring bind" the book for actual use on a music stand).

Just right.
This is what I was looking for. Starts at basics but works progressively. And what I really wanted was some music tracks to work along with in lieu of just playing to a click track or my metronome.I like that this presents chart reading skills etcI am a musician, but new to drums and having a good time. It helps that I can read proficiently, but I can see this being an awesome resource for a newb with a teacher too.Other books presented standard patterns and broke them down limb by limb. I don't need that in book after book, they're basically the same. This builds skills page by page, and can be supplemented by those patterns or song transcriptions.

Starting off…
Before I started practicing from this book, I took some private lessons. Glad I did. Overall, the book starts off kind of fast but if you stick with it, it does help, a lot.

Great complete drum course!
It’s a great instructional drum book for teachers to use to take a student from the very beginning up to advanced. This contains detailed foundation-building material that leads to something and each section builds upon the previous. The play-alongs are very good and the material is direct, clear and relevant. The note value and reading exercises are also brilliantly set to music (instead of just a metronome) which adds another dimension of application and learning for the learning player! There are two versions of songs and/or tracks-one with drums and one without.I bought the complete package of Books 1&2 that also included the DVD.Recommended!
