I needed a damp meter to check wall where paper was lifting so I didnt want a meter with pins and this one is very easy to use without damaging the wallpaper. I assume it is accurate but don't have anything to compare it with!

As I DIY’er, this is a really handy device. I don’t know the science in the technicalities of it all but this device is easy to use, easy to understand and interpret. It gives me the level of detail that I need when using it.As you can imagine, I have been around the house and garage ‘detecting’. I cannot verify the accuracy as I have no reference points, but it works great in the sense that something moist gives a lower reading than something wet….. and that is good enough for me.The instructions are useful and gives a level of detail to give you a good understanding of what you are measuring. It is perfect for detecting rising damp or where damp is creeping down through the roof. This is a non-invasive tester, meaning that you simply scan over things like walls. It doesn’t require penetration into the walls to measure, generally using pins. This means that you can repeat tests over an over to measure changes in damp or moisture without leaving any damage to paint, wallpaper etc.The display is clear and illuminated with a good size text. When detecting moisture of a high level it does have a visual warning bar on the meter that goes from green to red, which can flash at high readings with an audible alarm as well.It requires 3 AAA batteries and ARE included which is great.A fantastic tool for my DIYer’s tool kit…..

Does not leave a mark, but value shown is not in good agreement with a pinch type meter. More an indication that there is damp present than the numeric severity between dry and wet.

We recently bought an old cottage with some known damp issues in the front porch. We tried a few things to try and fix the problem ourselves. I ordered this to check and see if anything we had done had made a difference.The meter itself arrived in quite a sturdy cardboard box which contained the meter, 3 AAA batteries, a manual and a handy draw-string bag. Usually draw-string bags that are provided with electrical items are pretty thin and flimsy but this one is impressively thick and durable feeling.The manual provides instructions on using the meter and everything is pretty straightforward and explained well. I was surprised, when pressing the power button, how fast this thing starts up. It's almost instantaneous. There are 4 modes: wall, masonry, wood, and hardwood. However I've only tried the "wall" mode so far as that's what I'm interested in. I used it to measure around the house and the only walls that registered as being damp were those in the porch, which is what I expected, so it definitely works. The screen is easy to read and understand too which is great.Overall I'm very impressed with this moisture meter. It's easy and intuitive to use (although for soft woods you'll need to keep the manual at hand) and it correctly detects dampness.

A great moisture meter of the modern non-destructive type. I have an older prong-type meter, but this simply needs to be pressed against the surface to get a reading.You do have to set the mode tot he type of surface you're reading (plaster, brick, wood density etc), and I must admit thatt his is a more complicated piece of machinery than my old prong meter, and took a few read-troughs of the instructions to get the finer points into my head (might just be me!), but I'm sure that for most people, this non-destructive type of meter if far better.To be honest, I'm using it for firewood, so the fact that it leaves no trace when used isn't that much of an issue, but if you're testing an internal wall or a wooden plank you intend to use, I can see the draw of this type of meter. It would be great to take to timber stores when buying construction wood, just to make sure that what looks straight right now won't end up bent like a banana after three days indoors, acclimatizing! That's when the fact that it does no damage comes into its own.It did seem accurate, coming up with the same readings as my prong meter, and the instructions say the this is able to take a deeper reading (50mm), which is useful. The at-a-glance green to red scale on the display, to quickly indicate safe or damp levels, is very useful, too.All in all very happy with this, and would recommend. A useful thing to have around.The unit itself is easy to grip, and feels robust and sturdy.
