A GREAT BOOK for a great exhibition
This book marries up with the exhibition in 2013 at The British Library - but, if you missed the exhibition, it's a truly excellent substitute with beautifully reproduced photographs of (principally) government posters, advertisements, cartoons etc focussing on war, health and areas in which states in the world try to determine our beliefs, values and behaviour. The book looks mainly at the 20th century. it is informative, and will be appreciated by those interested in politics and the way in which governments operate. Beautiful quality paper too.

Excellent study for the educated person - not a glossy coffee table book...packed with historical study and really expanded on the 2013 exhibition at the British Library. It is a stand alone study however and one of the few balanced books on the topic available. Quality of the production is excellent. Twenty years ago when I taught a course in this for sixth formers such an excellent resource did not exist - wish I had had it then.

Very, very well written.
I bought this book to help me study the topic of World War One and World War Two propaganda for a univeristy essay, but found it so absorbing that I constantly read other sections. David Welch is very knowledgeable in this subject, and his writing style makes reading this book a pleasure. Additionally, it contains a wealth of pictures and photographs of various types of propaganda throughout the ages. The quality of the actual book is also very impressive. Whether you wish to use it as a source for academic study, or to casually read because the area of propaganda interests you, this book comes highly recommended!
