First thing to note, this device does not give a readout of the exact dimension being measured. It is a comparator that requires the use of another suitably accurate measuring instrument to calibrate a zero reading for the required dimension, then displays a numerical deviation from that setting. This isn't all that clear in the product details. Secondly, the range of the telescopic component in the handle is only 2mm. You'll need to add one or more set pieces to get the tool in the required size range. This is not a massive problem, but it does result in a lot of small extension pieces. The digital indicator itself is a generic sized unit with 12mm range of travel and would be useful elsewhere if disassembly from the plastic protective housing part of the stem was less of a faff. As noted by others, the case is rather inadequate to securely store all the many set pieces. When I opened the box they were all jumbled up, not safely nested in their respective slots. At least the small washer-like set pieces were inside a plastic bag, otherwise they would be easy to lose. I wonder why given the 2mm range of measurement we even need the 0.5 and 2mm pieces. On the subject of the case, this instrument doesn't fit in the case unless you separate the indicator from the stem. In the photos I've attempted to show that either the measuring head OR the indicator will nest into the box, but not both at the same time. The value isn't so bad considering how much a more professional instrument to cover the same range of sizes would cost. This is OK for occasional DIY use but it would drive me nuts if I was using it every day.

Bought this for my engine rebuild. I had to figure out how to measure with it as the instructions are not the clearest. It’s good to 3 decimal points, plus a half thou when exceeded. This was enough for my purposes. If I need a more accurate value, I use a Plastigauge. Basically, you first need to find the right stem, potentially in combination with a spacer, that fits in the ID you wish to measure. Note that the little nib on the opposite side of the stem needs to touch and be able to deflect within the ID of the cylinder you’re measuring. Once you have the ‘dial’ indicator rigged properly, you then measure the length of the measuring end, and to determine the actual diameter, subtract the indicated ‘compressed’ value from the uncompressed length of the measuring tool. My engine piston sleeves definitely need to be replaced.
