Lately I am developing a keen interest in Gulf Arabic since my girlfriend is from Qatar. This book was a good investment, it's convenient to help you with Omani Arabic if you are planning on traveling to Oman.

Teaches conversational Arabic to someone who travels to Oman. Useful for Everyday interaction on the street or in a supermarket while in the country. If you have no previous knowledge of Arabic this will teach you.

While this can be a somewhat helpful tool it has some very serious shortcomings. The English is poor, in places just wrong and words written sometimes convey the opposite of what was intended. Transliterations are inconsistent and in many cases more than one is used for the same word - bein/bayn - in different contexts for no apparent reason. It is clear that this book was written for a different language and hastily shoehorned into this usage. If you do not already have some familiarity with how Arabic sounds then do not buy this (which I am aware is exactly the opposite of how it markets itself but there you go). If you do you may still find it useful if you temper your expectations.
