2010 5.4
To start I have a 2010 f150 with a 5.4. I had a rattle type noise that sounded like it was coming from drivers side wheel well. After hours of research I concluded that it was the 4wd system trying to activate while accelerating. Also in my research I found it was most likely a check valve, solenoid, or vacuum leak. After finding a bad check valve in the vacuum like right by the solenoid I ordered that and this solenoid. I got the solenoid as well because my style did not have the rain cover and this was so cheap I figured why not. I installed the check valve and the problem was solved. I put the solenoid in the next day when it came. The solenoid was very easy to install and works just fine. I had to use zip ties to install it because there was no room in my 2010 to put it on the drivers side firewall. I believe the prior years were all on passengers side where there is plenty of space. The connection goes in just fine. This solenoid did say it did not fit the 2010 but I wanted to try it since it was cheap and had the rain cover. Worst comes to worst I would just return free of charge(thanks prime). So the conclusion there is that it will work just fine in a 2010 5.4, you just have to get a little crafty. I wouldn't use this method in a classic sports car but it will do just fine for a daily driver pickup. I installed the solenoid about a month ago and all is well just in time for winter. I have used the 4wd a few times now with the snow we have gotten and it has activated fine with no problems. I will update this review if that changes.

04-08 Ford F150 or Lincoln Mark LT Grinding Noise
My truck was making a terrible grinding noise at low speeds intermittently. Sound was terrible like metal to metal scraping. After hours of research I knew the IWE was partially allowing the hub to engage resulting in loud grinding only at low speeds. I thought it was a vacuum leak, the check valve, hub actuator (nightmare repair) or the IWE solenoid. Before buying vacuum lines etc I decided to just change the IWE solenoid. First off, all videos make it seem so much easier then it is for Ford 150โs 04-08. I was getting code C1979 btw. Itโs a job for sure because you will need to remove battery and the tray that hold the battery 4 (1/2 bolts). Make sure you unhook the wires connected to battery holding tray and take out. Using an impact driver with 1/2 socket attached. Then use 10mm socket to take off 2 bolts holding IWE solenoid. Then unhook electrical connected which will probably break (used zip ties to hold new one in place) and carefully remove vacuum lines. Install new and reverse steps etc. It actually stopped the grinding sound and the code went away. Instead of paying mechanic hundreds in diagnosing issue you can do this for $20. Mine old IWE solenoid had the water shield but still failed. Itโs gonna take roughly 1 hour or less if somewhat mechanically inclined. Itโs definitely worth a try if you are getting a grinding noise from front wheels that happens at slow speed and then goes away. This fix is easier with 12th and 13th generation (remove from water shield) but thatโs life. Your sound could be other things but I figured it was worth a try and so far no noises and it seems fixed. Good luck!!! Also wanted to mention my truck would go into 4wd h and 4L with old IWE which would stop the grinding noise so donโt let that make you think yours is still good. ๐

great purchase and saved hundreds over taking the Expy into ...
On our 03 Expedition, the 4wd light would blink once then stay off. It still had the old style solenoid without the rain hood. I priced this out at local stores, this is 1/3 the price for the exact same Dorman brand. Upon arrival, I installed the solenoid and it is back in business. 4wd shifts as it is supposed to. If your solenoid does not have the rain hood where water runs right off the back of the hood onto the solenoid attached to the firewall, look at replacing it. If your 4wd is not operable, look here first. I know some years took two solenoids. One to engage 4wd and one to engage 2wd (disengage 4wd). This rain hood has locations for two solenoids. However, it only comes with one. Overall, great purchase and saved hundreds over taking the Expy into the shop. The bolt holes lined up perfectly. The rain hood was a tight fit against upper firewall seam.

Corrected 4wd malfunction
Fix the issue of 2005 f150 not engaging into 4 hi. The old part was shot from the water penetration from poor design and location. New part has a "roof" to shield the electrical connectors. It makes it more difficult to reinstall. Patients and proper tools are needed. Removing the battery or having a helper hold things out of the way can help with installation.

Good product
Quick and easy install and works as it should. My 4ร4 indicator lights were not working all the time. With some searching, I found this was the possible issue. Went to an auto store were the exact brand and style was $71. Ordered installed and everything works.

Solved grinding sound from front wheels in 2H when accelerating
My 2005 ford F150 5.4L 3v was having problems in 2H with the IWEs grinding. I could hear periodic grinding while I accelerated. After buying a vac hand pump I was able to test the IWEs and other components, they were all fine. This was the problem. One way to test to see if this is your problem is to bypass the solenoid, plug the vacuum line into the line that leads to your IWEs, if you have 2wd then this is probably your issue.

not a direct fit
2013 f150 same part but this won't mount in the original location, not sure what they expect you to do so mine is just hanging there. Its not the same design so will work but dont expect a direct fit

Works great!!
Well my AWD and 4WD seemed to be working as it was supposed to but I had a four codes showing so I decided to try this since my 4wh and 4wl lights weren't coming on when in these modes. It was a simple thing to change and after removing the old one it was cracked all over from water freezing inside and it took care of two of my trouble codes.
