Review: Comprehensive - Fabulous book by the preeminent expert. Only buy if you have a wattmeter. Review: a lote of good stuff - For novice riders there is a lot of interesting info. Many of the things I was doing empirically were mentioned in the book, good coincidence. The best part I take of this book is to read your body and give it the sufficient time to recover - adapt and being able to execute a hard workout strongly.

The title speaks for itself
As the title suggests, this is "the book" for cyclists who want to engage in serious training, or even just to "get up to speed" (pun intended). The text seems to be geared towards elite professionals, which I am not. Nonetheless I find it has given me the foundation to pursue my passion to improve in leaps and bounds (as much as I can), to keep up with long-time cyclists in group rides, and to join exciting events like gran fondos. I aim to keep doing this for decades, to the betterment of my health and for enjoyment. This book has been the cornerstone of how I approach my training.

A new take on an old classic
I've been using Friel's "Cyclist's Training Bible" to self-coach for about 10 years now - all the way from a Category 5 road racer to Category 1. Never had a coach, just a lot of motivation and Friel's book to guide the way. I have a few older versions of this book, and I was doubtful that it was really "rewritten" - but after paging through it and comparing it to the last version I have (just got the new one today), I can say that it's definitely a new take! It's well worth the read, whether you own a previous edition or not. Whether you have a coach or not. Whether you are an amateur looking to go for Strava KOM's, or an amateur racer looking to go Pro. Crit racers, road racers, hill climbers, time trialists, GC guys - everyone can learn from this book. If you have a coach, they've probably already read this - and if they haven't.. probably time for a new coach! Understand this book, and you can understand why your coach is telling you to rest, why they are telling you to do workout XYZ, why they are telling you you're peaked and ready to win. Yes some of the same old material is in here - periodization, nutrition, training plans, etc - but that material is timeless, and lays the foundation for everything else.

Detailed and useful
Extremely detailed and useful in building a solid training plan. Also highly customizable. My own cycling challenges aren’t races at all but rather multi-day bike tours. Still, this book has helped me construct a sensible training plan in order to have adequate fitness for several weeks on the road. Eloquent, logical, thoughtful author.

Worth every penny!
I've been in Ironman for about 15 years and this book is a must for anyone training for a cycle even. I've been slack on using technology to train and this has kick started that effort. I've got all the power meters and gadgets, but understanding and using stuff like TSS is what I lacked.Technology and science has improved so much in the past 10-15 years in sports and this books captures and very clearly explains those details. For years I've been using Training Peaks and never fully understood all the scores and ratings. Now after reading this book I actually am starting to understand some of my training trends graphics which inevitably will help me train smarter. Things I liked about this book: - Detail technology descriptions that were understandable and useable - Format of this book is very clean and extremely well organized - Killer Index Friel said in his intro that he dumped everything from the previous version except the table of contents.

This is the one book you will need to read to be a serious cyclist!
It earns the name "Bible". It has evolved from the previous edition for sure. If you want to make more sense of it, also read Tudor Bompa's books, to better understand the context of advice in this book.

Excelente livro.
O que mais gostei foi a questão de metas e objetivos, pra quem treinou com acessoria agora faz sentido tudo que me passavam.
