Made with unprecedented access to the Short and Movietone archives, this title offers a breathtaking film record of all the major aircraft types employed by the RAF. The title includes much rare and previously unseen film of - amongst others - interwar types including R J Mitchell s Supermarine Southampton, the Blackburn Iris and Perth, the Singapore, Scapa, S-23 Empire and Stranraer.

Very interesting indeed
Clear narration over lots of unfamiliar footage, and interviews with some guys who've seen it all.I didn't know that Sunderlands had taken part in the Berlin Airlift, or that you can't take off from too smooth a surface, or that there was ever a jet-powered fighter seaplane, or that Supermarine Southamptons progressed from open cockpits to duralumin skins... just wonderful.I knocked off a star only because there are no subtitles.

Interesting and Informativie, a good watch
This DVD arrived on time and in good condition. Both my husband and I are great devotees of WW 2 aircraft and have seen many documentaries, visited many airshows and read a great deal but we both saw and learnt many things from this very interesting DVD and would both recommend it to anyone interested in aircraft.

Great, with good old footage - BUT the Spruce ...
Great, with good old footage - BUT the Spruce goose is shown at the end ( the film is fuzzy and reversed - right to left - different from the known newsreels for the time) Commentator says it is the Saunders Roe Princess !! OOOOOPS!

An Excellent Insight Into Seaplanes & Flying Boats
This a very comprehensive look at well known and lesser known seaplanes with lots of excellent archive footage including Naval vessels, interviews with pilots etc.Takes you from the very early days to the demise of these types of aircraft after World War 2.Very good value for money.

Average to almost good.
For lovers of seaplanes and flying boats such as myself it was pleasant viewing. I've seen television documentaries on the "greats" and "classics" of the flying boat world which were much better though. Nevertheless well worth buying.
