Product Description Off-beat martial arts thriller. Danny (Jet Li) is a slave who has been raised like a dog by the sinister Bart (Bob Hoskins), who keeps him chained up and only unleashes him to use his martial arts skills in illegal underground pit fights. When Bart is injured in an accident, Danny is able to escape from his hellish existance, and goes on the run in a world which he can barely comprehend. Then he meets kindly piano tuner Sam (Morgan Freeman), who begins to teach him about music and what it means to be human. But Danny's new freedom doesn't last for long, as Bart recovers and sets out to regain his property. .co.uk Review Luc Besson wrote and directed the stylish thrillers La Femme Nikita and The Professional; though he didn't direct Unleashed, the script has his trademark fusion of outrageous sentimentality and over-the-top violence. Hong Kong action superstar Jet Li (Romeo Must Die, Hero) stars as Danny, a man raised to be a brutal attack dog by a nasty gangster named Bart (Bob Hoskins, Mona Lisa)--when Bart removes Danny's collar, Danny pulverizes everyone in the room. But a chance encounter with a blind piano tuner (Morgan Freeman, Million Dollar Baby) reveals to Danny the possibility of a less brutal life, and when a retaliation attack gives him the chance to escape, he does--but Bart won't let him go that easily. The fighting in Unleashed is effectively jolting; Li and fight choreographer Yuen Wo Ping (The Matrix) have purposefully stripped away the smoothness of most movie combat (especially with a genuine martial artist like Li) with raw, unnerving results, especially when juxtaposed with the sweet and earnest scenes of Li regaining his humanity with Freeman and his step-daughter (Kerry Condon). This freewheeling cocktail of bloody noses and ice-cream cones isn't for everyone, but fans of both Besson and Li will leave satisfied. --Bret Fetzer

Smacked me straight between the eyes...
My description above is the best I can give on this film. Never before have I been as surprised as I was when I watched this film. The first thing that struck me as odd was the lead roles being played by Jet Li, Bob Hoskins and Morgan Freeman. I would never have put these in a line up to star in a film together. Surprisingly it worked. Incredibly well!I was expecting a typical martial arts film (not my first love when it comes to films I must admit), however this film manages to create a very unusual storyline, and integrate both fight scenes as well as a love story (believe it or not).Danny (Jet Li) has been brought up and trained to behave like an animal. He is kept on a leash until his master (Bob Hoskins) "unleashes" him and his command is to kill whoever and whatever is in his way. Danny has a chance meeting with a blind man (Morgan Freeman) and his stepdaughter and is shown an alternative way to life as he knows it.This won't be everybody's cup of tea but I must say that I absolutely loved it. If you are looking for a straight up Jet Li Martial arts film this isn't it. What it is however, is a brilliant mix of actors and storyline with some fantastic fight scenes. If you haven't seen it give it a try!

A nice, violent little film about the redemptive powers of art and love.Rveting performance from Jet Li
Jet Li gets to emote in some emotionally awkward scenes, but the gritty fight sequences come through in what is Li's best English language film.A nice, violent little film about the redemptive powers of art and love. Li's fighting sequences are unique for their street fighting style of realism and brutality... This is by far Jet Li's best English language film, and one of the finest of his career, not because of the thrillingly choreographed fight sequences but because of its well constructed story and Li's riveting performance. An intriguing little action thriller, a half-and-half story divided between sequences of vicious violence and quiet, wryly comic scenes of newfound domesticity. Anyone bold enough to meld various elements of Fight Club, The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, A Clockwork Orange and Douglas Sirk melodrama deserves a nod for trying something new.An enjoyable, off-beat action thriller that has 'Future Cult Movie' written all over it.

BEST JET LI EVER!!!
That's a very good movie indeed! It's a martial art oriented movie but there are no pointless fighting scenes such as flying people or Steven Segal's style like 30 minutes fight and no scratch...It's brilliantly directed and mixes perfectly the action and the characterization of the actors, which are delivering some great performances. There's a quite touching plot and story and I loved the way it melts in the surroundings..The soundtrack is superb and enrichs the atmoshpere and the suspance. top marks on my board!!

Good
Typical fast paced chip and chop film, but never the less worth a watch and my son loved it. However, I will not watch it again, too much fighting and brutality for me. But glad it's in my library for others to enjoy.

Excellent film - well worth seeing.
In this film, Bob Hoskins plays the iconic thuggish London gangster (shades of "The Long Good Friday") and Jet Li his very effective slave assassin who despite his deadliness has a vulnerable side to him. The fight scenes are particularly good and flow like a ballet. Definitely recommended.
