GoCat Da Bird Pull Apart Rod & Bird, 36 in, Assorted Colors

I passed over Da Bird Cat Toy several times because the photo image of the toy made it seem like it might be too simple for my cat and I wasn't sure it would interest her. Finally I decided to give it a try based on all the great reviews and the enticing price. From the moment I started playing with my cat Misty, I could see what all the fuss was about! I have had this toy for only two days and it stimulates and exercises my cat like no other toy. Do not be deceived by its simple look like I was. When I first swung the toy around for Misty, I was really impressed how the feathers flutter in the air and by the fluttering sound it produces. Misty went absolutely nuts! She was leaping and jumping all over the place to capture "Da Bird". She loves it so much that when she gets a hold of it, she sometimes tries to run away with her "captured prey" and doesn't want to let go right away. Misty is highly intelligent so she tends to figure out toys rather quickly, even the laser pointer bores her at times. However, based on her initial reaction the last two days, I don't foresee boredom with this toy. My tips when using Da Bird: 1.) It is definitely a supervised play time toy. If left unsupervised the feathers will mostly be destroyed quite quickly. 2.) If your cat is smart like mine, do not let your cat see where you store the toy. I made that mistake the first night, and the next day my cat was scratching like crazy at my Ikea cabinet that I stored it in try to get to her new toy, She has never reacted this way about a toy! It was absolutely hysterical and made for a great video to share with my family!. Needless to say though, nobody needs their cat scratching at their furniture. Drawbacks: 1.) If my cat tugs really hard at the feathers the 2 piece pole comes apart, but I just have to put it back together. I may just end up tapping it together at some point to avoid that. 2.) I can tell that she will end up wearing out the feathers pretty regularly, so I will need to have refills on hand. However, these two small drawbacks are completely outweighed by the excitement and exercise it provides for my cat. So I can easily give this 5 stars and I will be getting refills and sticking with this product long term.

After I had my female cat spayed and declawed, even after her healing process was complete, she just wasn't as energetic. She's about a year+ now and was getting pretty lazy and I could see she was gaining weight. I got some cat toys from Walmart. One started falling apart pretty quickly and she wasn't that crazy about it anyway. The other she was mildly amused by. A bumble bee on a ribbon. More durable than the first toy but just didn't really look like anything in nature. Then I saw and ordered this DaBird and got it with a supersaver order. She LOVES this thing. When you waive it through the air, it actually looks like some sort of bird or natural thing flying around and even makes a sound like flapping as the air passes through the feathers and they seem to twist or flap. If I will take the time to waive it for her, she will play with it continuously. She cannot resist it! Her pupils get so big a she stalks it and chases it! She is finally getting some exercise and after using it several times a day now for a couple of weeks, I've noticed she is much more energetic and sleeps less now. And she's lost some weight and can jump up on our desks like she used to when she was younger and before putting on the little tummy she was developing. I think maybe one reason diabetes is such a problem with house cats is much the same as with people: diet and lack of exercise. If all they are getting is a dry food diet (not good) and no activity by being house bound, they suffer from lack exercise. This is my first cat in about 30+ years. All my cats growing up were outdoors cats and none got fat or lazy. They always got a lot of exercise and enough wild caught 'appetizers' to supplement the food we gave them. None had health problems and diabetes was something you just didn't hear about. The only thing I would caution about this DaBird, is that the cat really gets in a frenzy to catch it and could run into something or fall on something trying to catch it so I make sure there is nothing in her way as she chases it and hops off and on the sofa trying to catch it. I also reward her once in a while by letting her catch it. She runs off with it in her mouth like she has some live thing she's caught. Then she'll lay there pawing it and waiting for me to make it fly again. LOL. Speaking for my cat, I LOVE DaBIRD!!

First I want to address a negative review I read about fiberglass shards. I was cautious about this while opening the package and inspected carefully, even took a towel and wiped it down, but didn't see any splinters. However, it's a two-part toy and the end that goes into the connector isn't finished (it actually looks like it's broken) and while putting it together it did splinter after insertion. Because of the warning, I was very careful and wiped the splinters away with paper towels and re-wiped the entire pole with the towels. I've had no problems since then. Now, on to the play value of the toy! Both cats ADORE this! When they hear the hall closet door being opened, they go into alert mode. When they hear the snick of Da Bird being moved, they turn into Super Cats and leap tall building with a single bound to get to whomever has their toy! Fatty 20+ lb. cat will totally monopolize the toy and play for a good 10-15 minutes before feeling the need for a breather. At that time, smaller brother gets into the action and will play with it until fatty is rested enough to resume. The gymnastics are hysterical! They leap, they twirl in mid-air, they almost crash into tables and chairs in their frenzied excitement to GET DA BIRD! This is THE BEST cat toy I have ever seen! However, I didn't order replacement feathers with my toy, because I read in a couple reviews the feathers usually last about 3 months, and I figured I could order them later. Oh, so not for us! Our feathers have been attacked, mauled, licked and chewed (we always take them away immediately, but the cat will get a few seconds of chewing before we can get to it and safely take it away--few seconds here and there of daily chewing makes for limp and missing feathers!) Our feathers are looking very sad and they're not even a month old, however, this hasn't diminished the cats' enjoyment in this toy at all. So, be sure to order replacement feathers...don't count on it lasting 3 months in case it turns out you have Ninja cats like ours! Oh, and I have to add this...the first day of cat play with this toy resulted in a possibly sore cat on day two. He slept almost all day without moving----we decided that he was probably physically sore from all that exercise! These are indoor cats and while we do play with them, we have NEVER seen them do this kind of gymnastic ninja stuff!! Lol! So keep that in mind if you have relatively sedentary cats!

~MAIN REVIEW OF THE TOY~ This is hands down my cat’s favorite toy, which is a feat to accomplish since my cat is so picky! If you have a cat like mine, then you have a closet full of cat toys that you only managed to get your cat to touch once, if at all. I use to constantly get toys for her hoping that the next one would please her, but she was never impressed. Something about this one though, she doesn't get enough of it! I have to quit because I have things to do long before she wants to give up. And this isn't like one of those toys where you get excited because you think that you've finally found one that she likes, and then she doesn't want anything to do with it days or weeks later. I've had to replace one of these several times over the YEARS because she’s worn them out. She likes it best when I'm making the bird thing fly back and forth and I really like that she's getting much needed exercise trying to catch it. ~A LITTLE HINT ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN DO IF YOU'RE BORED BUT YOUR CAT ISN'T~ Sometimes I'm just too busy to play with her so I bought a second one and taped the end of it to the stairs railing so that it hangs a little bit higher than her head when she is sitting. For about a month or two she went at it on her own even though it wasn't moving. She would walk up to it, reach up, and slap it which would cause it to fly all over the place and she would go at it. After that I had to get her interested in it again, by jingling it in front of her or hitting it so that she would go after it, then I could leave her to play with it on her own and I could go back to doing what I wanted. That got a little old as well (Let me be clear that the item itself didn't get old for her, just me not moving it anymore, she is still super excited when I go get the other one and swing it around for her). Anyway, I came up with another trick to keep her interested in the stationary one. I had a little fan on not far from it and I turned it slightly so that it would blow on the stationary one and make it move a little. Every now and then I still hear something and look over to see my cat attacking it like crazy. ~WARNING ABOUT HIDING IT WHEN YOU'RE NOT USING IT~ (Because Your Cat My Still Try To Get At It And Destroy Things In The Process) Which brings me to another good point, be careful where you keep it after you are done playing with your cat. I use to take it apart, twist up the string, and put it in a draw in my closest. One day after playing, I just set it down on the counter in the living room where we had been playing. A little while later, I heard a crash and then my cat comes in the room, the bird in her mouth and the stick trailing behind her. I go in the living room and things are knocked off the counter and a stool is knocked over (my cat has never not once gotten on one of those stools or the counter). She just REALLY wanted to keep playing, lol! ~DOGS LOVE IT TOO (EVEN SICK ONES WILL TRY TO GET IT SO BE CAREFUL!)~ Another note is that dogs really like it as well. When I bought the first one of these I was still living with my mom and she had three dogs. I couldn't play with my cat in the living room because the dogs were trampling all over my cat trying to catch the bird, even my 15 year old dog with severe arthritis that was going through heart failure at the time. She hadn't moved in the last year or so except to the food dish and to her sleeping spot and I couldn't believe the way that she was going at this toy! I made her stop because I was worried that her heart was going to give out right then, but I wish that I had found this toy earlier so that I could have used it to keep her healthier. It’s an amazing toy that I don't know how I ever lived without. I have and will continue to buy it again and again! My cat LOVES this toy. In fact, he literally walks around crying and meowing to beg for it. It's actually been an issue for us. We have to hide it each time in a different spot, and only when the little guy isn't looking. It's been this way since the very moment he saw that "bird" fly. Now, I was confused when I saw this toy online, not really even understanding what the hype was about, but, but believe it or not, its simple little feathers really do work some kitty magic. They move and "fly" in an amazing bird-like manner that impressed even the humans. It really whips by with a realistic sound too. However, there are negatives. The 2 part pole came apart so easily! It's just awful. Even though we taped the pole, it's still weak and bendy. Secondly, the toy's feathers are way too fragile. If you follow the directions, and avoid leaving the toy out (unsupervised), it seems reasonable to think it should last. Nonetheless, its feathers were nearly destroyed in less than 10 days, and the string was quick to follow. So, with normal use (i.e. kitty jumping and grabbing), the toy proves unable to withstand even a kitten's use, in spite of the higher than average cost. Oh, and our guy doesn't like anything as well as the feathers, not even the sparkly attachments. Anyway, we just ordered 2 more packs of the SINGLE pole, along with another two refills. When your baby loves a toy as much as ours does this one, you just don't have a choice, not even based on the principal. In fact, maybe we should buy stock in the company because they have a great business plan....make a toy cats love, but their parents have to replace it every 10 days.

My cats are usually finicky when it comes to toys. Usually, they lose interest within seconds, making playtime very quick before they're over it and laying some few feet away just staring at the toy. But there's something enticing about this toy, especially the feathers—they get soo excited! The moment they hear the rustle of the toy, they run out from their hiding places and chaos ensues. The feather attachment's flight-like motion and prey-like appearance tap into my cats' hunting instincts in the most natural way possible. A simple, yet deeply engaging toy, easily one of the best cat toys I've purchased. And if my cats are happy, then I'm happy ❤️ I was impressed by the quality of this toy compared to many similar ones that I've had. The durability of the product and thoughtful design is amazing. Even the packaging for the shipping was sturdy, reflecting the high standard the company holds itself to. Another factor that left a very positive impression was their customer support. Due to a mishap with my local USPS, the package was initially delivered to the wrong address. I contacted the seller that same night, and within less than 24 hours, the package was correctly delivered and I didn't have to visit the post office or do anything else.

I read a book about how to raise a cat and every possible cat topic you can think of. Under the toy section, the author said "the best toy she's ever come across for all cats and kittens is Da Bird." She said it mimics a bird with the feathers and the overall design and cats go CRAZY for it. So, of course I went on Amazon and purchased it. (Side note - you cannot find Da Bird in PetSmart or PetCo. Unless they've added it to inventory as of 8/17, the cheapest/best place to buy it is online at Amazon.) Y'all, my five month old kitten is totally OBSESSED with this toy. It's easy to assemble (just fit two long wire things together) and somewhat durable*. My kitten plays for hours with this toy. It's a great way to expel some of his energy. Da Bird is way more life-like than almost all of the string toys I've bought for him from animal stores. The basic string toys don't really mimic an actual animal; they're just a fabric ball hanging on a string that "looks" like a mouse, although it doesn't. My kitten lost interest in those string toys very quickly. However, Da Bird actually looks like a little bird that is whipping through the air. It's GREAT for cats and kittens alike... I recommend it to anyone with a cat. *The feathers do come off with a lot of use. That's not a big deal to me, since all toys eventually degrade with cats biting and clawing at it. I replaced my Da Bird with another one after about two months of medium-heavy use. The item is cheap enough that this doesn't bother me.
