The acclaimed duo behind The Runaway Dinner and Previously imagine the comical world that comes to life when a pencil starts to draw… “A hilarious and utterly enchanting new classic” The Times A special 10th anniversary edition of a modern classic, The Pencil is a playful, witty, wonderfully quirky story about the power of imagination. Say hi to Banjo! Once a pencil draws him, there's no telling what will come next – a dog, a cat, a chase (of course), and a paintbrush to colour in an ever-expanding group of family and friends. But it's not long before the complaints begin – "This hat looks silly!" "My ears are too big!" – until the poor pencil has no choice but to draw … a rubber. Oh no! In the hands of Allan Ahlberg and Bruce Ingman, can anything but havoc and hilarity ensue? With gorgeous golden foil on the cover and spine, this edition is one to share and treasure. Review: Lovely book - Just a delightful story. My 7 year old loves this book Review: One my favourite children books - Absolutely love this book, it was always a family favourite when my kids were youngers, I've also shared this book with as many family and friends as possible in the hope they would enjoy it. This is the first time I've bought it in a hard back versions and I do prefer it as I hope it will remain in good condition for longer.

Absolute gem of a book
This book is something truly different - so simple and yet original in concept with lovely illustration and a story that is both sweet and sends a message. My son loves it, we love reading it to him. We have pretty much bought all the other Allan Ahlberg books based on how much we like this one, but the Pencil remains the firm favourite.

Had to read & re-read it & I was delighted to.
A beautiful book, the illustrations are lovely and there's a gentle wittiness about it. Above all it has a bit more depth than many children's books. We took it on holiday and my 5yr old demanded it every night for the week, usually when he gets focussed on a book I try & persuade him onto another one, not with The Pencil, I enjoyed bedtime story day after day.

Clever and quirky, love it!
My three year old son and I just love this story, it's so clever and so much fun to read aloud. The illustrations are wonderful too. I think we'll be reading this one for years.

I liked this
It is a good story, and makes friends with pencils and rubbers, encouraging drawing and making it fun. Needs to be read to a younger child but makes a good bedtime story

Inspiring ideas
A very novel idea which really appealed to my grandsons, aged 4 and 6. I must have read it at least 10 times in the week I spent with them at christmas. The elder one now draws a picture of someone or something and thinks what they would want next, and why. The drawings become characters and decide to go places, thus developing story telling skills.

Cratividad y suspense
Nos encanta el ritmo, la naturalidad, el humor y la creatividad con la que escribe este autor. Tenemos unos 15 libros suyos. Este es de lo que más le gustan a mi peque. Me pide que se lo lea una y otra vez.

A Fun and Imaginative Book
The Pencil is certainly an imaginative book! I bought this for our 5 year old daughter and we have had so much fun reading it. It is such a novel idea for a story. It has the same premise as Harold and the Purple Crayon, but in this story it is the pencil that draws his world around him. There is a lot more going on in this book than any of the Harold books we have read. We enjoy the pencil's adventures, the unique names and his problem solving skills. The illustrations are wonderfully interesting and have a lot of detail to explore from page to page. I am very happy that I stumbled upon this book. It has been a great addition to our children's book collection.

Encore et encore!
Mon fils de 4ans ADORE ce livre! Il crée d'autres histoires oralement avec le crayon et le pinceau qui font d'autres aventures. My 4 year old son LOVES this book. He has created and imagined all sorts of other adventures that the pencil has drawn and that the paintbrush has painted. Maybe this one might become a favourite of your family too.
