FX-425 hot melt Seam Sealing Tape 25mm width (150 micron thickness) is used to seal seams on PVC and PU Coated Waterproof Fabrics - bivvy, covers, ground sheets, boat hoods, tarpaulins, tents etc. We have been successfully supplying our products to these markets for industrial production since 1985. The Tape gives excellent sealing results on a wide range of waterproof coated / laminated textiles. It consists of 2 layers - aliphatic TPU film (UV Stabilised - non yellowing properties) and a specially developed hot melt adhesive with excellent flow characteristics for ease of application and high performance (the adhesive is on the inner side of the tape as it is removed from the roll). In this case the temperature needs to be set on a medium / medium hot setting (135-150 degrees C) - the dwell time is the important factor and this can only be determined by experimentation - suggest in the region of 5-7 seconds with pressure applied. Ideally apply the FX-425 Tape to a small piece of waste fabric first to test adhesion strength - after test application and allowing time for cooling pull the tape back and you should feel a resistance and normally the tape should remove some of the waterproof coating. A light weight release paper (greaseproof - non-stick side down) or a piece of linen/cotton fabric can be used as a barrier between the heated surface and the tape to avoid damage to the tape / fabric and to prevent it sticking to the iron or press.
