The world's only illustrated guide to the real ninja teachings of historic Japan with original techniques presented in a highly accessible 'how-to' format The shadowy figure of the ninja—expert commando, secret agent, maverick who operates outside social norms—continues to exert fascination in the West, yet much of what is presented as ninja fact today is distorted or wrong. Drawing on the scrolls created by historical Japanese ninjas (or shinobi , as they were then known), this book offers the real ninja teachings in 150 easy-to-follow, illustrated lessons designed to draw contemporary students of ninja straight into the world of these skilled spy-commandos. The truth about the ninja is so much more complex and intriguing than the Hollywood clichés we know today. We may think, for example, of a ninja as being always garbed in black and fighting with 'throwing stars' but in fact, a ninja had clothes in different colours to serve as disguises for different times of day, and their arsenal of weaponry could include anything from poison, poison gas, pepper spray and fire-creating tools to swords, spears and knives (but no throwing stars). The 150 lessons in this book cover all the basics of ninja warcraft, including clever ideas for infiltrating an enemy compound (from wearing 'silent sandals' to faking passes and passwords), tactics for hiding and retreat (in the racoon dog retreat, a ninja will crouch low and halt, allowing the pursuer to collide with him at speed, whereupon the agent kills his enemy), and ways of crossing marshes and water (for example, with special shoes made of boards, or using a foldaway floating seat). The description is made all the more vivid by step-by-step photographs of the fighting techniques, diagrams outlining military tactics and beautiful samples of Japanese calligraphy. Good for beginners
Its mostly concepts & illustrations of ninja tools. It doesnt tell you how to become a ninja. It tells you ideas about what is a ninja. Its like reading a book on weight training concepts/philosophy/ideas, but it doesnt give you any program to follow or direct ideas of what you need to practice daily.

Just the facts please
Well the new soke speaks while much seems with gusto lets get to a few main facts 1 this books completely goes against things said early on in your ninjering u still have a way to go and how did teaching the Japanese ninjutsu work out....prolly about as good as basing all ur knowledge on just the bansenshukai alone there hasnt or prolly never will be enuff to proof that book or author in 100 percent i hope most of your readers grasp this 2 so all ninja really werent samurai...i feel a straight blade coming 6 3 much appreciate the skills i really hope it works out but sticking to the truth will help everyone but this being true shinobi it will never happen as you know because me and you spoke on that subject years ago ...direct qoute was if i was a true ninja i would be hacking and stealing your info as we speak...so all will still have to find there own way regardless of system those are facts. Once again the stuff can stil be learnt properly but will take work on the true warriors part. Seal team or special service best start. 4 the shocker revealed ive actually trained and tried to talk openly with many every one seems to know the truth tho but then wouldnt be no money in it...save ur money spend a private lesson with skh and ask the right stuff..u can read my previous reviews but this seems easier go to a true source thers a few left

I have thoroughly enjoyed this excellent book by Antony Cummins
I have thoroughly enjoyed this excellent book by Antony Cummins! It is structured in an easy-to-follow format that is pleasing to read as well as loaded with great images. The historic texts that Ninja Skills draws from are legitimate sources of information written by those that put these principles into practice long ago. This book provides a great resource for folks that have interest in studying genuine shinobi no jutsu, unlike the modern fabricated martial arts versions that have saturated and mislead the world over the last few decades. This will serve as an on-going source of study and research for me and I will highly recommend it to others! I am very pleased with this true representation of the skills of the ninja!

Some interesting approaches
The book itself is designed quite good. But nevertheless you often just scratch on the surface. I personally would have liked to read more practical exercises and hints. Especially for the guys training ninjutsu like me more tactics and techniques would have been helpful.
