OXOGood Grips Cheese Slicer with Replaceable Wires

This is a very good cheese slicer. Works flawlessly. The simplicity of design makes it reliable and easy to work with. The large grip makes it easy on the hands to use for a long time. I use it to slice mozarella prior to baking pasta. I get the moz in a small brick and I can convert it to slices in no time at all. You simply adjust the angle of the slice to adjust the thickness of the slice. It is quite easy to get the hang of it for consistent fast slicing of soft cheese.The tension adjustment on the wire is very handy as well. I loosen it up a bit before putting it into the dishwasher or drawer to keep the wire from breaking. The fact that the wires are easily replaceable (and it comes with a few replacements) is a big plus. I am very happy with this cheese slicer.

I've used this slicer for several years without issue and have even purchased them as a gifts. Recently the wire would pop loose with each use. I installed one of the replacement wires provided with the slicer and realized the tensioning wheel had cracked so the wire would pull loose with any applied tension. It also renders the spare wires useless. Upon further inspection, I found the wheel had a defect (bubble) in the plastic at the failure location. No question the defect in the wheel material resulted in its failure. I addressed this with OXO on their warranty form and they sent me a replacement. Thanks!

This is the only cheese slicer I have found that works and keeps on working! I've used other slicers and this one takes the cake! It has a tension adjustment as the wire stretches that you can use to keep the wire taut. And it comes with a couple of spare wires. Good design!

This product is an example of a great idea that was so poorly implemented that you have to wonder what they were thinking. As it stands, The OXO "Good Grips Wire Cheese Slicer" is okay as a slicer. It has a great grip and looks pretty good too. It's best for cutting thick (rather than thin) slices of cheese given non-adjustable distance between the wire and roller. The real problem is the wire itself. It frequently loosens up and slides off the slicer. When this happens, you have to run it over the curved and smooth chrome sides of the slicer, and tighten it by means of the wheel in the the slicer's base. There is only a small shallow grove at the ends of each side to hold the wire in place; there is no grove or guide to hold the wire in place where there wire is most likely to slip off. It's very hard to keep the wire from slipping off while tightening the wheel. Our experience has been that after the wire slips off for the first time, it will constantly slip off with nearly every use no matter how tight we turn the wheel. A small design change prevent this from happening would make this thing a winner.

This works beautifully on a block of cheese, thick or thin slices. For too long I have been using a knife to cut cheese. This makes it so much easier. It is easy to hold and comes with replacement blades.

With less than a year of mild use, the tension wheel broke, coming apart and making it useless. I was really happy with this but had noticed it wasn't working well and wasn't sure why till I looked at the wheel and saw it had multiple cracks and was unable to hold the wire in place because it came apart in pieces held only somewhat in place. I got it mid Jan, and by Oct, it's broken.

I purchased on several years ago and it finally gave out and I have been looking for quite some time. Bought a couple that just didn't compare to this, so I was thrilled when I saw this on Amazon.

Este en particular se lo compré a mi mamá ya que el nuestro es igual pero nos lo compraron en Estados Unidos cuando Amazon todavía no vendía cosas en México. O sea tiene más de 5 años y sigue funcionando a la perfección. Viene con un repuesto del cable que es el que en realidad corta el queso, el cual no hemos tenido necesidad de reemplazar. Es muy robusto y tiene buen agarre para cortar quesos más duros. Es bastante ancho por lo que se puede cortar una rebanada grande sin problema. De igual forma no tiene problemas cortando a profundidad si lo que se requiere es una rebanada gruesa. La marca es sinónimo de calidad y practicidad.

The media could not be loaded. This is seriously the design I grew up with, and have had a hard time finding a wire cheese cutter that lasts. The plastic ones that are super cheap break within a couple weeks at best, so I was stoked when this arrived , seemed way more robust and better designed and didn't have the same weak spot.Turns out the tightener roller is the week spot. Purchased in aug 22 and now it's April 23 and the thing has died.Great spare wires, but they don't work because something in the tightener roller is the problem. It's like trying to tighten a stripped screw, it just keeps clicking, even with a fresh spare wire.While it worked it was the best option for cutting cheese easily, although the design has a lack of wire groove/channel on one side that lent itself to slipping off due to the curvature of the metal. I avoided that by using it upside down and the tension kept the wire in place. Until the tighter broke.I'm checking into warranty with these products because seriously, 8 months is not good enough for the price of it!

After daily use of our old OXO cutter it finally wore out.This new version solves the two problems with our old cutter: the wire loosening over time and eventually breaking off from the slack.We only wish the width was adjustable. Your supposed to angle it but that gives you random sizes. If you cut firmly against the rail this version cuts prices at 0.300" where the old version cut them at 0.200". Not a huge deal for me but my nan is on a diet and the change in size is hard to adjust to. It would be nice if the roller moved up and down to adjust size. Other than that it is a great product and the extra included wire combined with the tensioning wheel should more than double it's lifespan.
