BLUF: Bottom line: dependable fertilizer I keep using year after year, forgiving, safer than alternatives. I’ve used Milorganite Slow‑Release Nitrogen Fertilizer on my St. Augustine and Zoysia lawns for about 10 years, and it’s one of the most reliable fertilizers I’ve found. The slow-release formula feeds my grass gradually and evenly without burning it or causing the harsh “highlighter” stripes I saw with quick-release iron products. It’s easy to spread and the lawn always stays green and healthy, even under heat. I like that it’s an eco-friendly product with a natural slow-release nutrient profile, which gives me peace of mind with kids and pets around. It doesn’t include weed killers, so it’s purely a fertilizer, but for regular lawn feeding it does exactly what I want. After application you will smell a deep tomato soup like smell for a day or two. What I like: slow, non-burning feed; easy application; steady green without stripes; family-friendly. What to know: slow-release means you won’t see instant greening like quick-release products.

I used the Milorganite to pre-germinate grass seed. After I soaked the seed for a couple days, I mixed it with the Milorganite to make it dry enough to spread using my spreader. It worked very well for this purpose.

This stuff is amazing. You can rub this on your chest and you’d start going grass on your chest! All joking aside. This stuff is nothing short then amazing. Your grass will grow thicker, greener and stronger after your first use.

Great lawn fertilizer. Watch the setting on your spreader, this stuff is tiny. I dumped most of a bag before I realized it. It doesn’t burn but then I needed to buy more. Kinda smelly which can be a good thing if deer don’t like it as some other reviewers mentioned.
