Unlikely Cause of Train Stopping SOLVED
I set up a perfectly round layout which requires an overall area of 42 inches square. The track stays together really well using the supplied clips. It's reasonably easy to get the cars hooked up and on the track. The set only offered the rechargeable battery which worked fine. The USB A type charger was fine as most folks have a computer or wall charger that has a USB A type port. I did not use the smoke feature. I did run into one problem that took me a while to resolve. The remote requires 2 AA batteries that do not come with the set. I had two AA's in a drawer so I just used those. The train started up fine and ran for about 30 minutes. When I was happy with how it worked I brought it over the day care center where I volunteer it ran great for about 5 minutes. The kids were have a great time blowing the horn, running forward and reverse and mostly full speed. Then all of a sudden it stopped. I figured the battery had drained even though the item description said it would run for 1-2 hours on a full charge. Well the kids and i were super bummed. I took the train home and put it on the supplied charger. The charger only charged for 10 minutes and the charge light went out. That seemed odd but I tried running it again. This time it ran for about 5 minutes and stopped again. I figured I had a bad battery, bad charger of the control board in the engine had gone bad. I tried to get support on line to no avail. Checked with Chat GPT and was advised it was most likely a defective engine control board and the best thing was to return the whole unit and get a new one. I started to prepare the train for return and in the process went to remove the batteries in the remote. I figured just for the heck of it to put in brand new AA batteries in the remote. It seemed a long shot as I thought the remote just got things started. BINGO!! The train ran perfectly and NEVER stopped. As it turns out the remote is continuously in wireless contact with the control board in the engine. Once the AA batteries died the remote shut down and the train stops!!!

Great product for the price.
Great product for the price. One small thing, the directions implies that there is a battery carrier in the tender. It does not exist. There are rechargeable NiCd batteries hidden in the front with a large open area under the removable cover, but no removeable battery carrier.

Great fun for 2 1/2 year-old and he kept asking to use it
The train worked pretty well as long as we put it on the floor and not on the carpet. Once in a while, it went off the track but a lot of the time it stayed on. My nearly 3year old grandson loved it and was able to work the controls forward and backward and adjust the speed by himself. He kept asking to play with it during our Christmas visit.
