Nice robot car kit that includes the micro:bit board
I have built a lot of these robot car kits. I’ve built them myself, with my kids, with my nieces and nephews, and they are usually fun. But there is one thing that either makes or breaks the experience, and it’s the quality of the online tutorials and sample code. Full caveat: I have not actually built this kit yet (just haven’t had time), but I did go online to thoroughly check out the available sample code and tutorials for the benefit of fellow Amazon shoppers. The tutorials for this kit are very good, and it should be very easy to build this. A computer-savvy middle schooler can do it themselves, or younger kids can do it with some parent assistance. Here are a few highlights:1) All the documentation and code are available to both view or download online. You have to search around a bit for this product on their website, but it’s not too hard to find. I suggest downloading, because you never know when an online resource will no longer be available in the future.2) The main “build” document is full color pdf, and very clearly written, with excellent pictures. I’ve include a few screenshots so you can see the quality. It’s 149 pages long, so it’s pretty thorough, and covers all the build, calibration, and sample code steps.3) You get tutorials in both Python and Makecode (similar to Scratch). If your kid can use Scratch, they can easily program this.4) You can download all of the sample codes, in both Python (.py) and Makecode (.hex) files.5) The documentation is 99% in English, with a bit of Chinese duplication here and there.Everything about the documentation points to a fun, and non-frustrating build. These kits take time (plan on a full day, or several hours per day for several days), but are very rewarding. They are a great way to introduce your kids to physical computing. Plus, this kit comes with the Micro:bit, which is a HUGE plus to not have to source this separately. 5 stars!
