I love my new Kindle! It's just the right size and not too heavy. It doesn't stay charged as long as my old one did and takes up to 3 hours to charge but as long as I'm on top of that, it serves me well.

Wonderful tablet, beautiful I just had it a few hours but so far like I say it's wonderful, Update just the right size. Any bigger and I couldn't hold it up to read on it. At 75 years old I'm not as strong as I used to be, But this is just the right size for me. The 7" Tablet Was a bit to small, But I think the 10" would have been too big. I have a Screen protector on it. My granddaughter put it on the minute I got it In the mail. She wanted to make sure it was protected. And reading on it is just wonderful I've adjusted the spelling size and the color and I can't ask for anything better I don't think. Very happy I would buy again, Very happy with my purchase. Amazon kindles are just wonderful inventions And the fire gets you so much more than just a book, in fact it gives you a whole library.

Love this little tablet. I use it in my drum room while playing drums. I am able to to play drumless tracks hooked into my mixer with no problem. I cant speak on anything else its good for though lol

I've used a Fire tablet for years and would not be without one. For the price they can't be beaten imo. I thought my previous one had died so I immediately ordered its replacement and upgraded to the 64 gb memory. I also always add a memory card so I can download and keep movies, etc. with no worries. I keep all my Kindle books, over a thousand, downloaded on it of course, and much of the amazon music that I own. Also useful for watching Prime, Youtube, or other streaming videos. I also check my email, my Ring cameras, use Alexa (but see update below) including controlling my Wyze devices, and have several streaming and simple game apps on it. It's a very versatile, durable little tablet for basic daily use. It does everything I need in a tablet, when the features are working correctly. I use my laptop for things requiring much keyboarding and for browsing the internet, but this tablet does that too. My older one came back to life after this one arrived but I decided to just keep both. This one is a newer generation, but I'm not a techie and can't tell much difference in the two. (BUT SEE UPDATE BELOW.) I highly recommend the Fire tablets. At certain times of the year they are ridiculously inexpensive and are still a great value at regular price. UPDATE: I am having a problem using Alexa on this new tablet, a problem that my older one does not have. Although the settings are correct on both of them, for some unknown reason Alexa responds on this one with a keyboard for me to TYPE what I want her to do. I don't want that! There is a microphone icon to tell it what to type, but I want Alexa to voice-respond (with the blue line at the bottom), as it does on my older Fire tablets and on my Echo that has a screen. I have repeatedly checked the settings and restarted the tablet but it will not voice-respond for Alexa. Also, it recognizes that I have an SD card installed but it nevertheless saves almost everything to its internal memory, although I have those settings correct, too. It's already used half its internal memory and very little of the SD card. Therefore I'm reluctantly deducting a star. (These are still awesome tablets for the price. My older one just works better for accessing Alexa.)

Ever since I got a Kindle fire for Christmas in 2012, I have loved using it to read my many books that I own or borrow. I love using the black background with light letters to read. The size is easily adjusted. While I preferred the flip page of the old app, I imagine I will adjust to this continuous feed eventually. It is a little too easy to adjust the reading so that will also be a learned skill. I leave the wifi off to extend battery life. I particualrly wanted this one because of the smaller size to carry in my purse or prop on my treadmill while I am walking to my Peleton app. It also has a blue light feature to reduce the amount of blue light. I'm so happy I found something to replace the 2012 as the readibility on this is better for me than my kindle paperwhite except in bright sunlight at the beach. And I haven't even taken the time to use all the other features.

I had previously owned an Apple Ipad. So, I was skeptical of a tablet with a significantly lower cost. However, my new Amazon Fire HD 8 has far exceeded my expectations and it more than meets all of my needs. It is also a plus that memory can be added to the tablet.

Leaving my original review below. Originally liked this a lot, but within 24 hours realized (1) it was extremely slow and glitchy, (2) the screensaver ads and the $15 bribe to remove them is garbage - especially considering that this device is only worthwhile if you get if for really cheap, (3) the browser it comes with is horrible and it doesn't allow you to download Google chrome, (4) the battery life is ridiculous, and it seems to struggle to charge with any cords other than the one it came with. I used it a few times as a screen for Jackbox games - for anyone who doesn't know what that means it's only responsibility was staying on while we use our cell phones to play a game. It couldn't even do that. When I submitted my return request, Amazon offered me $11 to keep it. I considered it, but it got on my nerves so much I decided to send it back anyway. I got another Android device that was about $70 and am sad that I sent that one back before knowing how poorly this one functions. _________________________________________________ Incredible device. After discovering Amazon Luna, I wanted a device that I could game on & didn’t want it to be the ones I use for work so I bought a couple tablets to test out. This one was the winner and by a landslide. I was hesitant because all the reviews said the tablet was good for “light gaming” and I intended to play more graphically detailed games like Skyrim and Fallout. Let me tell you that the performance of those games on this tablet exceeded that of my MacBook, HP laptop, annd any Android tablet I tried. So impressive. Teeny complaint or really an FYI for people considering this for hardcore gaming (which is likely no one lol) - if you want to buy a controller that attaches to the device, it gets a little wonky bc the volume buttons are located where the external controller attaches. I made it work, and it’s 10x lighter and easier to use than a steam deck, but just be mindful of that when you look for a controller. I also bought the Luna controller and hated its guts lol but that’s also an option.

(Update: Be aware that this device turns itself on randomly. This has happened many times. At first I believed the button was getting pushed because the device was in my bag. But no, this has happened many times when the device was at home for days being charged, after I verified it was off initially, where it was in a position where nothing could have activated the power button. So I do not know why this happens but it is an ongoing issue.) I had an old Kindle Fire that was from 2012 or before that, which lasted 13 years but finally died a few months ago. My prior experience with Kindle and ebooks and impression of Kindles in general is based on that device. I bought this Fire tablet because I needed a replacement for my old Kindle. Since e-readers that can only read books and have a low amount of storage are really expensive, I bought this because it was cheaper and I thought it would have more functionality. As of now, I have had this Fire tablet in my possession for 6 days, and this review is based on that. I purchased the 64-GB, no-ads version. The “no-ads” thing seems to work because I have had zero problems with ads. If you buy this, I strongly recommend the “no-ads” version. You will not receive any user manual with the device, and you will have to rely on Internet searches to troubleshoot problems if they occur. On this device, after the initial setup before installing anything additional, it said about 52 GB of space was available. Be aware that you cannot use Google Play or any apps that come from there. All apps you install to this, you have to install it from the Amazon Appstore in order for it to work. I am pretty sure that apps that did not come from the Appstore will not work. But the Appstore has versions of most common streaming apps you might use to stream TV and movies, as well as the Libby library app, which also seemed OK. You cannot uninstall pre-installed apps. On the Home screen, these apps are cluttering the place up, but you can get them out of your way by dragging one of them on top of another one that you don’t want, which will create a folder of all the apps you don’t want, and you can put them all in there to clear up space on your Home screen. You can also disable Alexa during the initial setup phase. You can also go into the settings and get rid of the annoying “recommendations bar” or whatever it is that is on the home screen. You can remove the search bar from the lock screen, but you cannot remove it from the home screen. Anytime you are typing anything, the AI “writing assist” was absolutely driving me nuts because it was causing almost all the typing errors because it was making assumptions about what I was typing, which were wrong. It is possible to get rid of this by going into Settings>Device options>Keyboard & language, and in there you can turn off a lot of really annoying stuff like that AI writing assist and writing recommendations. So it’s good you can turn this off. If you buy this, do this ASAP when you are first setting it up to save your sanity. I had 3 objectives when I bought this: 1. Read ebooks using the Kindle app, 2. Stream TV/movies using apps (while using my phone as a hotspot for an Internet connection) while out of the house, and 3. Listen to my music files that I already own while out of the house. (Rating 5/5) Streaming TV/movies using apps while using my phone as a hotspot: I never did that before, but this was actually the easiest part of all this. I have had zero problems streaming TV/movies using the Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix apps on this device. Streaming in HD is fine, but I’m sure this depends on how fast your data connection is, and you need to make sure that your phone is capable of functioning as a hotspot and that you’ve got enough data for your use as a hotspot. It’s not hard to set up the hotspot. I also connected Bluetooth headphones to it, and those worked fine as well. So this part was good. (Rating 5/5) Listening to my music files that I already own: It’s pretty easy, but you can’t do much with your own music files without installing a music player app. I installed the Musicolet app, which does not do anything on the Internet and is a simple music app that lets you create playlists on your Fire tablet for your own music files that you have on the device. This was really good. If you download a music player, be careful because some of them don’t have the ability to create playlists. This just took the time to copy my music files to the device and set up the playlists, and it was very simple, and seems to work well. So this part was good. (Rating 1.5/5) The worst part: The Kindle app. For reference info: My old Kindle was trouble-free. It had no real Internet capabilities other than delivering ebooks, but that was fine at the time. I read books on it and it was fine, and I listened to my music files and those were fine. In the 13 years that I used that device, I never had any glitches whatsoever. However, the Kindle app on this Fire HD 8 tablet has got a lot of problems—way more problems than should have existed in 6 days. 11+ hours of my time were wasted in 6 days because of technical glitches that were specific to ebooks and the Kindle app. I will try to talk about some of these problems so that you can make an informed decision. Warning: Books you deleted from your Fire tablet previously may randomly reappear as though you didn’t delete them. I don’t know what causes this. You will have to delete them again. And they may reappear again later even if you deleted them multiple times. There were some cases of books I had deleted from my Amazon content library also reappearing. Warning: Ebooks you own that didn’t come from Amazon: A large percentage of them probably won’t work. Some will work on your device and some won’t. I warn you right now that there is absolutely NO guarantee of being able to use any books you own that didn’t come from Amazon. It seems random… Even if you have a trilogy or series of several related books that came from the same source that you bought at the same time, sometimes one of them will work and others won’t, even if the file type is supposed to be compatible with the Fire tablet. So if you own 500 books that didn’t come from Amazon, it is very likely you will not be happy with this device because there is a high chance of most of your books not working on it. This is real, make sure that you consider this before buying. Warning: You cannot back up your Amazon book files to your computer anymore. It used to be possible to do that on my old Kindle, but it is impossible to do that with this device. Even if you download all your ebooks that you purchased directly from Amazon to the Fire tablet, if you hook it up to your computer, there are zero files under “Books” in the Fire tablet. It looks empty. If you look at “view hidden files” it is still empty. So Amazon has removed all possibility of backing up your books and they have made us 100% dependent upon them to obtain the books that we supposedly already own. This is not good because of the many glitches that force us to have to deal with Amazon tech support for literally hours to get books we purchased from Amazon that are supposed to be our property. The “deliver via USB” option that used to exist has also been removed so the only way you can deliver books to the device is wirelessly via the Internet. Warning: Even if you purchase an ebook from Amazon and download it to your Fire tablet and verify that it works, and you think it's fine, tomorrow you may get a DRM error and it may be unusable, and you will have to contact an Amazon customer service tech support person under Product Support to fix this glitch. (The dreaded error I am talking about is this: "Invalid item: This item is protected with DRM and cannot be read on your Fire. Please remove the item from your device and download it again or purchase a copy from the Kindle store.”) This has happened over and over again and I suspect it will continue to happen over and over again. This wasted 11+ hrs of my time within the first 6 days I owned this device. I had to spend more than 3 hours talking to 2 different tech support people to resolve this issue. First time, after setting up my device, I got these DRM errors on most of my books (the ones I purchased from Amazon) that I had previously verified as working the day before. The tech rep made me do a factory reset, but honestly I don’t know that the factory reset helped anything and it wasted a huge amount of time because I had to re-set up everything again. After the factory reset, he had to manually resend the books to the device because the “make changes” thing where you deliver the books yourself from the content library was grayed out and didn’t work. This worked for most of the books, but some of them it didn’t work. I had to permanently delete those books from the content library and rebuy them, and the tech representative issued a refund for the cost I had to pay. Then, 2 days after that, I got 4 DRM errors again today, specifically for books I had purchased from Amazon that had supposedly been fixed by the previous tech rep, and one of them was one of the ones that I had to delete and rebuy. I had to talk to tech support again, and they manually resent it again. Given that these errors have happened soooo many times in 6 days, I suspect this is an ongoing problem. So if you do buy this, if you are planning to read a certain book, do not leave the house without checking that it works. Because it may not. You may have one of these awful random DRM errors that prevents you from reading your own property. So… I hate this. In retrospect, I kind of wish I had not bought this. I am hoping these errors will not continue but I think it’s very likely that they will. Also: I had 23 books from Amazon that I had to get 100% replaced and fixed. What if I had 300 books that had to be manually resent? Anyway you can see how this is a major issue. These recurring DRM errors for books I purchased from Amazon are a huge problem. If I had known about this in advance, I think that I would have looked elsewhere to replace my old Kindle. But I also think that returning the device and getting a new one probably isn’t going to help. I suspect this happens on all of these devices because their system is set up in a very glitched way. And I think that doing multiple factory resets (which wastes even more of your time having to re-set up everything again) probably doesn't fix it either. I hope this review helps people to understand whether this will work for them. And I really hope I will not have any more of those DRM errors. I am pretty much at the end of my patience with that. 11 hours of time wasted in 6 days is way too much. This is totally unacceptable.
