I had regular kindles more than 10 years ago but got the fire and didn't bother with them. I didn't want to read on my phone. I wanted this but somehow got the Kindle White. I found it heavy with the case so for the first time, I sent it back. I got this. I'm so happy with it. It's very light (lighter than my phone in the case) and you can hold with one hand. Also, the reason I got the white was so I could read at night. It turns out you can read at night with this easily. It has light so you can adjust the brightness. The screen size is adequate and I've read a lot more since getting it. The battery life is decent. I'll add that I had the a Kindle Fire from January 2015 that was still working and charging and I traded that in. I hope this is a good quality also.

I bought this for my husband after how much he like my Kindle Paperwhite and I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked the Basic just as much if not more in some ways. Being slight smaller than the Paperwhite makes it feel noticably lighter and that makes it much easier to hold. The text is crisp and clear and the adjustable sizing makes it easy to read whether you're holding it or propping it up. The adjustable lighting makes it very gentle on the eyes for nighttime reading. It's a pretty sturdy little device and it does everything you could possibly want a portable library to do.

Very easy to use. Light weight and easy to transport when traveling. The screen size is perfect and font size is adjustable.

As is said - best thing since sliced bread! Could never understand my previous Kindle, but this is so easy to set up and to use. It's easy to put in a handbag or whatever one carries. It will accelerate your wish to read as it's handy, holds just about any book on earth you wish to borrow or purchase. I am so in love with it - now to find a case.......

A Simple Kindle That Gets the Most Important Things Right I've always enjoyed reading, but physical books can be bulky, take up space, and aren't always convenient to carry around. The 16 GB of storage is more than enough for thousands of books, and having an entire library available in a device that weighs just a few ounces is incredibly convenient. I also appreciate the USB-C charging and the ability to customize font size, brightness, and layout. Those small adjustments make long reading sessions much more enjoyable. A couple things to keep in mind: this basic Kindle doesn't include some of the premium features found on higher-end models, such as waterproofing or an adjustable warm light. Also, if you choose the ad-supported version, you'll see sponsored screens on the lock screen, though they don't interfere with reading. Bottom Line: This Kindle delivers exactly what most readers need—a lightweight, distraction-free reading device with an excellent screen, long battery life, and enough storage for an entire personal library. For the price, it's one of the best values available for anyone who enjoys reading regularly. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I like this little Kindle, and it IS small! It’s not much bigger than my phone and weighs less. I just wanted it to read books at night so it’s easy to hold when I’m laying in bed. The only thing I didn’t know was that it’s not in color so everything‘s black and white. ( like book covers). The more expensive Kindles have color. I also have a Bible on my Kindle and it’s hard to navigate through your Bible. You can find a book, but you can’t find the chapters.(at least I haven’t figured out how to do that yet). It comes with a charging cord, but not a plug so you can charge it if you have a desktop computer. Or you can purchase the plug separately if you don’t already have one. I did not purchase the $32 case by Kindle that folds up, but I did purchase a silicone cover for much less. If you travel a lot and take your Kindle, you might want to invest in the case. It’s very nice. I just needed something to help me grip the Kindle better because it is slick. The screen is nice and it goes into dark mode if you want to read at night and have less light in the room. It’s easy to read during the day. There’s no glare on the screen. I would’ve given five stars if it was a little easier to navigate through books.

Oooooooh I am hooked badddddd lol. Picked this up during prime day sale and wow. Totally in love. This is my first e-reader ever and it does NOT disappoint. This genuinely offers everything I’d want and need. The size is perfect. The color is amazing and the kindle itself works flawlessly. The only feature I feel it is lacking is a warm light mode.. I know the paperwhite offers that, but I wasn’t interested in paying so much more considering that was the only feature that enticed me of that model. I also prefer the recessed screen of the basic kindle. The paperwhite feels a little too similar to a tablet/iPad to me. I understand the warm light mode is probably reserved for the more premium model to incentivize upgrading, but if they ever add warm light to the basic I will be buying it day one! Literally other than that every thing else is genuinely perfect and has well exceeded my expectations. I can’t wait to read everything!!!

Perfect! Lightweight, long battery life, no glare, works with library books (Libby app through the kindle app), so what more could you ask for?
