Great Del
I need to listen to it again a couple of times, but first spin was fun. The Heartbreakers are outstanding as usual, and several of the songs are great.I would only say that dont expecta Tom Petty album, expect one from Del, and that's just fine on its on.

This is an excellent CD and is worth every penny
This is an excellent CD and is worth every penny. I think that Del Shannon never got the praise that he desired for his voice. Well this CD shows his range.

Get down and buy me.
We lost Del Shannon in a very sad way ,when he took his own life.I can recall the time in the early 60's when I first heard Runaway, what a fantastic record it was, one of those great records on the "London American " label.I followed Del's subsequent records with great interest. This particular album is a good listem, and probably a must forDel Shannon fans.As these type of releases tend to go out of print, get it while you can,Peter.

Classic Del, with a touch of Tom Petty
Recently got the digital download to replace a long worn out vinyl album. There's a few covers, but Del's songwriting stands out on this one. Tom Petty at the board manages to keep the classic Del Shannon sound, yet giving the project a modern (for the time) touch. Actually, it stands the test of time pretty darned well. A cover of "Sea of Love" was the top charting hit, but I wonder how well this album would have done had it not been lost in the corporate changes of the record companies involved.

Fantastic
Im not gonna say much, but this album is great. Del Shannon had a wonderful voice. My favorite is Out of Time. Even though there all good. I think anyone would be pleased if they bought this album.

THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF A TORTURED SOUL
Del Shannon was a major hit maker in the early 60s, but he was always tortured by trying to achieve perfection in everything he did. When his career lapsed, he turned to the UK, spending a good deal of time over here mainly because there were several producers who admired his work and wanted to get him back on track. Andrew Loog Oldham was one, then a young and somewhat unorthodoxly ambitious manager of the Stones, had set up his own Immediate Records label and was a big fan of Phil Specter as a producer with all whistles, choirs and bells making that huge wall of sound, so you'd expect he'd do that with Del. ('Out of Time', a Jagger/Richards composition, gave Chris Farlowe the little label's first big hit when he recorded it for Immediate, but here you get Del's admirable version). Other notable interested parties came from Jeff Lynne who wanted him in his 'super group' The Travelling Wilburys, and then from the States, but it was American Tom Petty (also a Wilbury, who oversaw this album, even being generous enough to have Del supported by his own band The Heartbreakers in the studio. The album wasn't a huge success, but that doesn't make it a bad one, and in fact its now become a rare collector's item. Perhaps the highlight for me is the cover version of Phil Phillip's 'Sea of Live', the original of which was also covered by Marty Wilde. However, Del's demons remained, he fought them, but became so depressed that he eventually put a revolver to his head and pulled the trigger.

I'm not usually "into" 60's musicians, but I'll admit to being a fan of Del Shannon from his 1st. hit (Runaway), and these last few months I'm playing "catchup" with his latter (& a few of his earlier) disc's. Along with "Rock on" these are two excellent CD's partially due to the influences of both Jeff Lynn & (the recently departed) Tom Petty + the Heartbreakers. Both CD's sound bang on up to the minute. Therefore both disc's rate as 5*****'s.
