Good value from a lesser-known brand, nice general EDC.
This is my first exposure to Miguron, which isnât a well-known knife maker. For example, it doesnât appear in my typical knife channels that have brands like Kershaw, Buck, CIVIVI, Benchmade, and Boker. Miguron is run out of Yangjiang, Guangdong, China, and has a much smaller online presence. That said, I was impressed with the quality of this Akri knife by Miguron. It does seem to be well made considering its price point. The blade is perfectly centered in the handle, has zero wobble, and opens and closes smoothly. The pocket clip is efficient and well-functioning, and thereâs a nice texturing on the handle. I particularly like the rounded top of the knife blade. It is worth noting that you cannot remove the pocket clip to put it on the opposite side, so itâs not designed for left-handed users. Also, Iâm not a huge fan of front flippers, as they are a bit awkward to open. Since the extension is off the blade at the front side, rather than the more common tab at the back, you need to use your thumb. There isnât a button either, which some knives offer as an alternative for quickly pressing and flipping open. The only way to open the blade on the Akri is to use your thumb. While I was able to do it one-handed, it was slower for me than with these other types of mechanisms.Instead of the more common D2 often found in this price range, this blade uses 14C28N Steel. This steel offers more toughness than D2, better corrosion resistance, and is slightly easier to sharpen, but has poorer edge retention. This means it can take a beating but gets dull easily.I took some measurements, and this is what I got:Overall Length: 7.15"Blade Length: 3.18"Handle Length: 3.96"Handle Thickness: 0.53"Handle Thickness w/pocket clip: 0.71"### Conclusion ###I honestly like this knife better than I thought I would. Itâs attractive and sleek, especially the rounded top of the blade. It doesnât feel bulky or heavy in my pocket. In fact, itâs only slightly heavier than the popular Kershaw Leek (86.6g vs. 85.1g). The clip slides smoothly on the outside of my pocket and holds the knife solidly in place. It doesnât come with a case like others of its kind, but I didnât find this to be a problem since I rarely use them. While the steel does dull easily, it doesnât take much effort to sharpen. If you use the blade heavily just know sharpening will be an ongoing process. As such, I would say this knife is best used as a general EDC (everyday carry) for opening boxes and quick tasks around the house rather than something you take to a job site or a prolonged camping trip. Good overall value.
