Helps A TON! So Glad!
I am SO glad I finally bought this! I was really worried I was about to spend almost $150 on a piece of junk but I am so glad I took the chance. I live in apartment with two cats. We prefer to keep their litter boxes outside and leave our patio doors open all the time to allow them to go in and out at their leisure. It drives me nuts that this is not safe. Not to mention in the winter and summer I either freeze or sweat in order to avoid paying heating and cooling costs! I finally decided I'd had enough. I will admit that when I was reading the reviews for this I was thinking to myself, "There is no way it's that easy to install." And I wondered if the reviews were written by the sellers. But I decided to go for it. The instructions and all the stuff it says on the box will fool you into thinking it will be difficult but it's so crazy easy! I had no trouble at all! It literally look me less than 10 minutes! My aluminum sliding patio door is about 78" in height (from top to bottom on the inside track) and the *medium* size fits in just perfectly. I used the weather stripping included to form a seal. I cut the excess off and it looks okay. I didn't do the best job of that because I placed it before I cut it, so it works fine but it doesn't look beautiful. It comes with accessories and things for added security, but since we do not own our apartment I chose not to add those. That's why it was so easy and simple to install. I'm going to use the *Wedgit White Mini Twist Tight Adjustable Sliding Window & Door Lock* or the *Master Lock 265DCCSEN Dual-Function Security Bar* to keep the sliding panel from opening. Just to say though, I have this installed on the inner door where the sliding door opens and closes. I also have an outer screen door that this thing is barely too big for. I tried it and this DOES fit (it's just a teensy bit unsteady) in the screen door part. BUT I decided to put it where it's supposed to go because I can partly shut the screen door to disguise the pet door. I live in an apartment which is not on the ground floor and from the ground and stairs at any angle you cannot tell there is a pet door installed. It fits so great with my other door and is hidden by the screen (it's barely open, just enough to allow my pets to pass through) that you can't tell it's there. Before, you could tell I had my patio door partially open. I feel sooo much safer now that you can't tell my door is open! Speaking of safety, this comes with a doohickey you slide down to block the entrance. You don't have to take the door out to do it. You slide it down over the flap in these little guides on either side and it has a magnet thing that holds it in place. For privacy, if you're worried about that, there are spray paints out there for glass which make it look frosted and you can buy stencils and things to make a pretty design. I've seen people use special paints to make a pretty glass mural, use stencils to fake stained glass, etc. I've also seen people use those big sticker things people usually put on their walls on the glass, or contact paper. Or even pieces of lace glued to the frame. There a ton of ways to DIY this to make it look custom made or match your own decor. There are spray paints which are for metal you could use on the frame if you wanted! The weather stripping and the magnetic flap do a great job of keeping out drafts, but my cats hate the flap so we tend to keep it flipped up for them. We tuck an edge of the flap into the groove meant for the security doohickey and it stays pretty well. I have plenty of room to walk past it (I'm an average sized female and my husband is on the slim side, but we have a ton of room) and it stays just fine even if the other door isn't there. It's stable all on it's own and doesn't need the other door to stay put. The full width of our sliding glass door is about 70" and the half of the door which can be used is probably about half of that maybe? With the pet door installed, it's plenty of room for one person to walk through comfortably. Super easy to remove, especially if you don't drill to add locks and stuff. Snaps in and out. So I can take it out easily if I move, or for going out of town, etc. I'm a short woman who cannot lift super heavy things. I do a lot of the DIY type stuff around my home, fixing things, building things, etc. My husband can, but he works a lot so I don't like to trouble him unless it's something I don't trust myself to do. I was able to lift and install the door with zero help. The box is very tall and a pain, but that was the only difficult part!

Looks Built In & Fits Perfectly
Such a great investment for your pet! I'm so happy with this "Large" size pet door for a sliding patio door. Installation was a breeze & it was very easy to train our 50 LB dog to get used to it. No more bugs or drafts, with our only other option of keeping the sliding patio door open... or the constant battle of letting her in and out...Great product, don't hesitate!

Very good, but needs an installation video
I bought two of these. The smallest size was ridiculous, too small for any animal. The middle size would’ve been perfect, but they were running a better deal on the larger size. The instructions are confusing and printed so small they’re hard to read. The installation is not complicated if you don’t drill it into place. Pay special attention to the installation of the black rubber thingy. Find a video because the instructions don’t explain it well. Buy a lot of weather stripping and a security bar to keep the door in place. Once you’ve packed weatherstripping all around it, it functions well. The flap seals well with the magnet every time it flaps open and closed. PetSafe needs to make an easy-to-understand installation video. Then this would be a 5-star item.

Installs in minutes. Decent quality.
Super easy to install. Decent quality. I replaced a 5-year-old Ideal door that my 14-year-old dog had difficulty stepping over. The bottom step over panel was around 9 in. This one is around 4 in and much easier for my dog to step over. Both are good quality however this one has the advantage of the low step over section. The only minor negative... some weather stripping would have been nice. No big deal.. only $6 to order separately.

Requires custom installation, but worth the effort
I recently (3/2014) purchased this product after wanting one for several years for my dogs, and just got the installation finished. The product arrived as described, and was packed well. Fair warning - this product requires a custom installation on each home, and will require adjustment to eliminate gaps between the existing sliding door and the pet door. I'd call it a moderately difficult installation for a "weekend warrior" home DIY person (I do most of my own repairs around the house, i.e. install a new dishwasher, fix all the plumbing, etc, but don't put in new floors/tile, work on AC/heating, do drywall work). I found Charlie the Pug (5/2/12) and Dave's (6/18/2010) reviews useful for assistance with installation. Some changes to what they did in order to eliminate the gap between my sliding glass door and the pet door. I used Frost King White Rubber Foam Weather seal ¾" wide 7/16" thick 10 foot long roll for both sides of the pet door. I put it between the pet door and the sliding door frame (the part that you will never see), and between the sliding door and the pet door. I tried the EPDM Rubber weather seal that Charlie the Pug mentions, and found the Foam to work better. I suggest picking up both and using your intuition when installing. I also put three screws at the top and bottom of the pet door from the sliding door frame into the pet door instead of the 1 that the installation instructions mentioned. This made the door much more solidly fixed to the frame. I then put two screws on the frame side as the instructions mentioned (one 12" below the height adjuster and the other 1" above the pet door). One major change that I made from the installation instructions was not putting the dog door bottom around the sliding door track. The bottom of the dog door has a semi-circular cut out to fit over the track that your sliding door runs on. I put the dog door between the front lip of the frame and this track so that the pet door sits as close inside of the track as possible. I found that this made the inside edge of the dog door flush with inside edge of my sliding door, and also made it much more stable since it was tightly fit between the frame and the track. Other style sliding doors may not accommodate the pet door like this, but I found it helped me out. In order to eliminate the gap, I needed compression between the pet door and the sliding door. In order to achieve this, I went with a cam action sash lock that can be bought from my home improvement stores. The one I bought was from Home Depot (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Prime-Line-Cam-Action-Window-Sash-Lock-U-9925/100166499?N=c3hcZ5yc1v). After the sash lock engages, the handle turns another 90 degrees, which provides compression between the two pieces. Brilliant! It took me 2.5 hours working solidly to eliminate the gap before I found this gem, and then my gap was gone! It also is an effective lock, as the sash lock they provide with the dog door is kind of wimpy. Because I am security minded, I also bought a security bar designed for small sliding door gaps ([...]). I have not tried this yet, but think it will be a nice addition to the sash lock for compression (eliminate gap) and security. Please note: the sash lock only eliminates the gap when it is engaged, so if I have the door unlocked, there is still a small gap between the dog door and the sliding door. I can live with this small gap, and do not really keep my sliding door unlocked unless I am going in/out of it. The dog door includes a plastic panel to put in as a security measure, and it seems solidly built. There are tracks on both sides of the flap to put the security panel. I think I may pick up a second to put on the outside for use in the winter to add an extra layer of insulation between my house and the cold midwest winters. Some other suggestions: the screws they provide are pretty weak. I broke several while installing. Got fed up and went to Home Depot and bought better screws that wouldn't break. Follow Dave's suggestion about the sweep between the sliding glass door and the stationary glass door, it helps to have some overlap. Be persistent in installing this door, as it is very useful and a good price. My dogs now love it, and I feel like I conquered Mt. Everest by eliminating that small little gap between the sliding door and the dog door. For sizing: I bought the Large/Tall. One dog is 67 pounds, lab/pit bull mix, who has 10.5" between the floor and his chest/belly (rise). His withers are like 21". The other dog is 58 pound lab/boxer mix, who has 10" between the floor and her chest/belly, and has 20" withers. Both dogs go through the door with ease, and the extra height of the tall riser (8.5" on the large/tall door versus 4.5" with just the Large door) looks like it would make a huge difference for them using it. Hope you enjoy

weak flap, flap bracket poor
This product is flap doesn't have the ideal seal and is easily held open by the wind. NOTE: Order an extra plastic, "flap installation bracket" this bracket secures the flap to the door. The bracket is on the exterior side. When I replaced the flap the plastic bracket broke into pieces during removal. PETSAFE: Please improve the flap installation bracket quality. Perhaps aluminum, like the rest of the product. The flap quality is in my experience with the wind too soft. I ordered a replacement flap and had the same issue with the wind. I'm shopping for a door with a wind and weather resistant flap. I'm doing 3 stars because I've purchased a new replacement flap and soon another door. I'm okay with everything else about the door, especially the convenience of the installation. Shopping for an upgrade. This product is okay under the correct application. Would work fine in a controlled environment.

Great door and easy to install .
So I bought this door in January 2026. The door is fairly easy to install. I did have to buy extra weatherstripping because I am in a cold state. The only thing I don’t like about this door is that it said the large was for dogs up to 100 pounds. I have a golden mountain doodle that 75 pounds and a Labradoodle that is 82 pounds and they have to duck as they’re going in and out. If you have a big dog, I would order the extra large. But other than that super easy to install when the wind blows real hard, the flap blows open, so I tried just to keep the insert in during windy days. Very sturdy and a good buy .

Easy to install
My cat likes to sit on the outdoor balcony to watch the birds and the birds watch her. She would constantly meow to be let out and in again so someone recommended I get a pet door for the sliding glass door. I did not know that such an item existed. I did some research and this product did all that I needed at the best price. I was apprehensive whether it would fit. I measured the door frame several times and then placed the order. It fit just fine. Since I am a tenant I did not permanently install this insert for the sliding glass door frame. I also do not live on the first floor so burglars were not my primary concern. The insert has a spring mechanism at one end so you can easily insert or remove at will. The only problem I had is not even related to the product. The installer of the glass door did not level the frame and the entire mechanism leaves a gap. There are multiple videos on how to easily correct this but my sliding glass door is a lemon. There is no adjustment screw so I put in a maintenance request with property management. The maintenance person was just as confused as I was because there appears to be no adjustment screw. Also, my sliding glass door is not full width. So with the insert the space for entering and exiting is reduced significantly. In order to bring items in and out of the balcony I have to remove the pet door insert to allow enough room to access the balcony. Again, these are NOT issues with the product. The product is exactly what I needed and performs as promised. The glass panel is especially thick and durable. The issue I have is with the existing door frame and inferior workmanship that detracts from this great product. It was worth the money and even though my set up is flawed it works fine. Only took my cat about 24 hours to figure out the door. The dog took much longer and he is still timid. Magnetic closure on the pet door flap is secure and works well. I would strongly recommend.

Fantastic product.
I can say enough positive things about this product. It is excellent quality. Was a bit of a tight fit on my door but once I got it in place it is perfect. I installed it on the track with the screen. Pictured with the glass door partially open and with the door closed inside. My Yorkie is a little intimidated by it will get used to in in no time. Highly recommend for anyone with a balcony or secured space where your dog can access.

Love this door. Makes it so much easier for the dogs to go in and out without having to get our attention. We can leave the house and not worry about coming back to a mess on the floor.

Dog Loves it
This installs perfectly. Only thing is that it did not line up with our patio hardware, so i bought 1" think weather stripping for both sides and when i close the door, i put a premade wood bar in the door to keep it closed tight. The weather stripping is thick enough it encapsulates the door mechanism and creates a good seal. I do remove it at nights during the winter when the temp drops to -30s, and for that, i am very happy with the ease of installing it. During the day, you get a bit of draft, from around the pet door and the single pane glass, but, on really cold days we dont put it in. Very happy with the purchase and the dogs both love it. It allows them to go out onto our upper deck so they can bark at people coming up our driveway and keep watch. Would definately recommend.
