Great for the price!
After spending hours roaming the internet looking for an electrical shredder I came across this manual one, I'd heard lots of mixed reviews about electrical shredders breaking down, over heating etc. so I decided to take a chance on this one, mainly because of the low price, size and no electrical problems.SIZE: I didn't want a huge shredder the size of a dustbin sat in my bedroom. The shredder itself is small enough to fit on your desk, or like me, when I was finished I stuck it back in its box and shoved it under the bed for the next time I needed it. It's easy to move it around, I sat on the sofa and used itEASY TO ASSEMBLE: The shredder arrives in a box and the only assembly you need to do is to fix on the turning handle which takes less than 10 seconds.OUTCOME: The shredder strips the paper very thin, it's not a cross cut shredder, but after shredding about 50 pieces of paper I couldn't read anything- so if you're buying to avoid ID fraud then this still does the job.TECHNICAL: You have to shred each paper ONE by ONE, the shredder can't handle any more than one sheet, BUT that didn't bother me since the time it actually takes to shred is a couple of seconds. I managed to shred about 50-60 documents in about an hour whilst on the sofa watching TV.MINOR DRAWBACKS:*You have to hold on to the lid with one hand whilst shredding, otherwise it may move about a little, not a major problem for me.*The container for the paper is small, you have to empty the container after shredding about 2-3 sheets of paper. BUT this is hardly hard labour; if you want a small shredder than doesn't take up too much room then naturally the container is going to be small.*An odd strip may get stuck into the lid-it DIDN'T jam but just needed to be pulled out, a pair of tweezers to pull out any stray pieces a couple of times after shredding did the trick.OVERVIEW: A good manual shredder for someone not looking to spend a lot of money and doesn't mind shredding one sheet at a time, and emptying the container as they go along. It's perfect for shredding bank statements and receipts.

This is a great little shredder
This is a great little shredder, it can only handle one sheet at a time but home light home use is ideal.***April 2017 Update***So I purchased this shredder at the end of 2016 and 4 months later i am still using it but the turning handle has broken. This is because the handle is made of plastic and it is attempting to turn a metal hexagonal shaft which slots into the handle. Therefore, after some fairly light usage, the metal shaft has worn down the handle slot and the handle now just spins round without turning the shaft, consequently the shredder does not work. So i fixed this by fitting an allen key into a small socket (from a socket set) and together this two-piece contraption now turns the hexagonal shaft which turns the shredding mechanism. So it's still shredding paper but the plastic handle should have been made of metal. Note the shredder will not shred a credit card or even 2 sheets of paper at the same time. If you follow these rules and upgrade your handle, then you should be home free.... or buy a more expensive shredder!

I'm glad I bought it
Having read some of the reviews for this item I was a bit doubtful about buying it, but was swayed by the price. I'm glad I bought it. Yes, it does only shred one sheet at a time, but that's made clear in on the box. There is a problem with stray strips feeding into the top of the shredder, but it doesn't stop it working, I think an annual unscrew and clear out would be fine. It does what it says on the tin and shreds paper adequately. I am using this to shred paper for quilling, rather than for destroying documents and it works fine

didn't last a year
original review underneath. this stopped working in the summer. the shreds get all tangled around the mechanism. very disappointing. We have a big electric shredder but with two little people around we keep it out of reach. Consequently, the shedding always mounts up and then when I come to do a batch I wonder if said little people have interfered with the pile and end up checking it all again!I bought this little shredder to keep in the kitchen to shred as I go along. It is fairly compact and fits an A4 sheet in portrait. It literally will only shred one sheet at a time so any two pagers (eg the Lakeland letter that comes with the catalogue) needs ripping in half first. If you have lots of shredding to do then this might not be the shredder for you but for the new 'stay on top of the piles' me - it does the job just fine! And speaking of the little people, they spent a glorious hour shredding paper. The blades are neatly tucked away and the handle turns fairly easily. Two in one - activity and organisational tool!Shame you can't choose the colour. We received blue but would have liked pink!

Great little shredder
Great little shredder. I've been contemplating buying a shredder for some time but been put off by not really having the space to keep one. Having seen this one and the other reviews on here I decided to take the plunge. Very glad that I did. As the other reviewers have mentioned it is not one for use with high volume shredding but it you are looking to deal with the occasional bill or bank statement then I don't think you can go wrong. The width of the unit is designed to take a sheet of A4 in portrait so it's not that wide (hence not too big either for storage purposes). Good price and well packaged and delivered by Amazon in a timely manner as ever.

Great value for money.
I was pleased to find this affordable shredder as I'd moved house and had what turned out to be almost a full wheelie bin worth of old, hoarded, documents that has personal details on. This shredder only takes 1 sheet at a time, which was tiring, but it worked just fine, even after all those documents.

Works great
As other reviewers said it's great in that it doesn't need a power source, well except yourself. It's small and compact but will manage A4 sheets well. We don't need one all the time, we're not MI5, it goes back in it's box in the cupboard and comes out for a visit once in a while. Great idea.
