At 6’4” you would require longer than average shins and shorter than average thighs to cover your knees. Me at 6’ and all my averages being average they sit about 1/2” above the knee.

Q: are they washing macine safe?

Absolutely. Bought these for my son who wore them (and other shorts) constantly during the hotter summer days. They have been washed numerous times in the washing machine and still look as good as new. No ironing involved.

Q: Would a size 42-44 waist fit my son's 44 inch waist? I note they have an extended waistband and drawstring.
