excelente viaje

Works great for me - awesome to have tunes!
UPDATE: (Dec. 24, 2013) I have had this sound system now for 6 months. I use it every day. It still sounds as good, as loud and as clear as it did on day one.Plus: One thing that I hadn't expected is that it turns into a speaker phone when I get a call. I listen to streaming radio through my cell phone (I have Velcro® Industrial Strength Sticky-Back Hook & Loop Fastener Strips, 4 x 2, Black on the dashboard of my scooter and on the back of the phone) and when I get an incoming phone call I can just reach down and tap the "answer" button on the screen and talk away. The phone uses its built in mic to hear me and I can hear the callers through the Boss speakers. Folks that I have talked to on it say that they can hear me just fine. For what it is worth I do almost all my riding in city traffic. I have not tried this on the open highway.Cons: The only negative thing that I have noticed is that the "chrome" on the speakers has discolored somewhat, but that is not a big deal to me. I still love having tunes while I ride and the Boss cranks louder than I ever want or need. Here is my original review:I am so glad that I got this. I love tunes while I ride, but hate the fact that ear buds block all the outside sounds that we need to hear to ride safely. Before ordering this system I read all the 100 plus reviews several times, so I had a pretty good idea of what I was buying and the pros and cons. One of the biggest pros is that most buyers reported that not only did the system work reliably, but also sounded great. Several mentioned that it sounded as good as systems costing hundreds of dollars more. Many of the buyers had previously purchased other brands of speaker systems selling for about the same prices as this one and said that they had terrible experiences with those other brands. While a very few people here did end up with a faulty product, by far most ended up with systems that worked well out of the box, and according to those folks who updated their reviews, continued to work well over months and years. NOTE: To reduce or eliminate the possibility of going to all the trouble of installing the system only to find out that I had received one of those rare lemons, I hooked the system up to a fairly decent 12 volt power supply which I happen to have, and let the thing play 24/7 for about a week before going ahead with the install. Only once that I was satisfied that it worked well did I move ahead to the install. One of the cons which reading the reviews prepared me for is that the cables are not terribly long and do net lend themselves to being easily extended. There is also not a great deal of mounting options for the speakers. They come with mounting brackets that fit under the mirror mounting bolts. These brackets also have the speaker wiring running through them with no easy or practical way of removing the bracket. If they buyer wants to mount the speakers on the handlebars instead, she or he will have to buy brackets for that either on-line or at a MC store. As far as I can tell Boss doesn't even offer them as an extra cost option. These are great speakers and the demand is high. When they are in stock, both here at Amazon and at other vendors they seem to always sell out within hours. They are worth the wait though, if you see "This item usually ships in 3 to 5 weeks" I would recommend doing as I did and going ahead and ordering the set. My "3 to 5 week" wait actually turned out to be only about a week. May you all have the same sort of good luck.Because of health reasons I recently had to get rid of my full size cruiser and replaced it with a SYM HD200 motor scooter at about half the weight - light enough for me to handle easily. My 67th birthday is right around the corner and I am too old, creaky and lazy to be crawling around taking all those body panels off the scooter to run the wires and such. If it were a motorcycle I probably would have done the work myself, but in this case I farmed the work out to one of the best motorcycle shops in San Francisco - Tokyomoto. It took the mechanics there about 2 hours to get the system installed, including a USB power socket (It is a "Blue Sea Dual USB Charger Socket - 2 USB Ports w/Watertight Cap" which I also bought here at Amazon) to power my phone while I am using it to play tunes through the Boss MC400. They did a very clean install. They also installed a 5 amp fuse and a toggle switch under the seat that controls the power to the speaker system and to the USB socket. I just flick the switch when I am getting my helmet out or putting it away. They mounted the wire that plugs into the headphone jack on my cell phone, and the power cable from the USB charger poking out from the space around my brake fluid reservoir. I stuck a square of industrial Velcro to a flat spot on the dashboard right there, and the matching piece on the back of my phone. When I am ready to ride I just plug the two cables into the phone and slap it down onto the Velcro. Getting off the bike is just as easy. Pull the phone off the Velcro, unplug the 2 cables and drop it into my pocket. The volume control got mounted on the firewall under the instrument panel.I do 99% of my riding in downtown San Francisco, and while I am not sure if "Loud pipes save lives!", I can say that I have already noticed that jaywalking pedestrians who might have before just stepped blindly out in front of me as I am making a turn at a red light now are more likely to turn and look to see where the music is coming from.I just wished we had had these 45 years ago when I first started riding!

Good speakers, good price, pretty loud.
Decent speakers and sound. The adapters and foam for the brackets didn't quite fit my VStar. I had to modify the foam and make it work. Otherwise install was easy. Sound quality isnt too bad... no bass but that is expected. It is loud! I was surprised by how loud it was. I have a modified exhaust, 2 of the 3 baffles from each exhaust has been removed. Basically my bike is so loud I always have to ride at the back in a group ride because no one wants to be behind me because I am too loud. Having said that, I can hear my music when I am on the highway doing 110,120 even 130km/h. I've used my ipod and my cell phone, turn them to about 3/4 volume. Haven't had to turn the speakers up all the way. Left a bike show and had it turned up about half way,my buddy said he could hear it behind me(he was about 100-200 meter behind). All in all good for the money. The aux jack was giving my issues early on with crackling etc. Thankfully on the amp you can plug another one in. I can see by next season I will have to use it. Might be worth getting the bluetooth one for a few more bucks next time. All said I am pretty happy with it.I ran all the wires under the seat and the gas tank and put the amp in a small bag that I mounted inside my windshield (help keep it out of the weather). The volume control doesn't have a way to mount it.. would be nice if it came with something. I was able to slide it in the bracket gap that mounts to the handle bars and tighten the clamp down. Keeps it in place and I can adjust it easily. Was worth the buy.Good value, decent speakers for the price.Basically budget speakers.Pretty happy with them.

Works well, wrong product description - no Bluetooth
Despite what the detailed product description would lead you to believe, this model does NOT support Bluetooth. The product description has a big writeup about what Bluetooth is and accurately states that the MC420B supports Bluetooth. Why would you have the product description for the model 420B on the 400 model? Makes no sense.Apart from that, this does work well, was relatively easy to install, has very decent volume and I am happy with it for what it is. Just had to buy an additional 12-volt>USB adapter and a USB Bluetooth adapter AND a power-noise cleaner to reduce the electrical engine noise interference.
