Vegas Pro 11 Editing Workshop

This is one of the few, and thankfully the most complete guide to the Vegas program. Haven't digested it yet, but give me time!

This manual will be helpful to any person on any knowledge level. You need not be close to an expert in order to use the manual or be able to understand it. It is a very helpful product.

Great book , needed something to get me going , Vegas pro started out as a nightmare with 3 questions. What can I do, how can I do it What format can I do and how to get it there Where is that setting hiding After this book I was able to do transfers from Analog VHS to digital DVD and BR, video cleanup, title design, menu design and chapter divisions, tests and burns. Vegas Pro 11 is a beast an very capable but not for the novices to dive in to alone, this book is an asset to novice and experienced. I put off a project for 8 months trying to figure out what would do the job and do it well, this book plugged Vegas Pro 11 in and with 4 months hard work I have an outstanding 14 DVD product culminating 30 years of experience delivered into a shocked and very satisfied client's hands. Kudos Douglas, you got me enough of what I needed to get it done, well done !

I use Vegas 12 now, but this book covers basically everything you need for 12 as well. Highly recommended, Book is well organized, contains the tips and tricks you need to improve your Vegas skills.

This review is for the book about Vegas Pro 11. Content is OK, but this latest edition (I've had the earlier ones also) is a step backwards. The index is poor -- whole subjects are not even shown in the index. Also left out is the page listing the contents of the included DVD. Also missing is any discussion of the New Blue Title Pro that comes with Vegas Pro 11. This is a powerful but complicated plug in that gets only a short superficial mention in the book. But the biggest problem is that the screen shots continue to be in black and white, which makes it hard to see the detail. Despite this, the sample pages Amazon shows on its website for the book display the screen shots in color. I bought this edition thinking they finally got around to doing color for the screen shots, but it ain't so. Worse yet, the discussion of color correction and use of scopes has been really screwed up. Previous editions included 16 pages of color shots printed on glossy paper demonstrating the effects of color correction tools and the use of scopes. This edition does it all in black and white. Pretty useless. I would be happy to pay the $39 for a pdf file of this book with the necessary color included (as shown on Amazon's website) that I could print out myself. I notice that the book is available for the Kindle, but it's not clear if this version includes color screen shots that could be read on the Kindle Fire. In the meantime, hopefully the publisher will get it right on the next edition.

30% of the figures are too lightly printed and almost illegible. The first book I received from Amazon I sent back to them and had them replace it because I thought it was just a bad printing run. The replacement was just as bad.. He numbered his figures but did not give them names/titles. When discussing them he often does not reference the figures by their numbers so you need to search for the referenced figure. To further exacerbate this problem a number of the figures are inaccurate and do not reflect the Vegas Pro 11 screens. The text includes many errors. I previously purchased his Vegas Pro 8 editing text and was impressed enough that when I upgraded to Vegas Pro 11 I purchased this followup book. On the project which I'm presently working I've wasted many hours and had to re-render a number of times due to his misstatements. He apparently is very knowledgeable but was not as careful in this writing as he was in his previous work. As such you loose confidence in the authors statements and directions. The book contains a wealth of information, but you end up having to test each piece in order to ascertain which is fact and which is not.

I've been using Vegas for many years and purchased the book for Vegas 6 a few years ago, so at first I was a little reluctant to get this book for Vegas 11 since I don't use a lot of the fancy stuff that could be in books. I've really been happy with this new version for Vegas 11 since it covers so much material that is new to me.

It has a lot of information to help you do the things you want to do. I wish the index were a bit better, but otherwise this is a great book. Also, the black and white pictures can be washed out and hard to see.

Leider, leider, leider, gibt es derzeit für Sony Vegas Pro kein ausführliches Buch in deutscher Sprache und auch die englischsprachigen halten sich mengenmäßig in engen Grenzen. Demgegenüber gibt es auf der Herstellerseite einige Videotutorials, die für einen Einstieg in diese Prosumer-Videoschnittsoftware ausreichen. Dazu gibt es auf den bekannten Videoportalen bisweilen recht gute und erläuternde Tutorials, in denen auch selten eingesetzte Effekte dargestellt werden. Mittlerweile bei der Version 11 von Sony Vegas Pro angekommen, lohnt sich dieses Buch, welches auch auch auf die 10er Version sowie die Konsumervariante(n) "Vegas Movie Studio" eingeht, absolut. Rein vom Stoff her ist es nützlich kein Novize in Sachen Videoschnitt zu sein, aber auch für Umsteiger und bereits erfahrene "Videoschnittler" ist so einiges interessantes an Informationen aufgreifbar. Nun zum Buchinhalt selber: behandelt werden folgende Themen: - Aufnehmen von Videosequenzen in HD, HDV, XDCAM und AVCHD - Verwenden der Audio- und Videobearbeitungsfunktionen, Übergänge, Filter und Drittanbieter-PlugIns - Multicamera Produktion und Schnitt - Farbkorrektur, Titeln, und Komposition - Ausgabe in verschiedenen Formaten inklusive Webveröffentlichungen, DVD, BluRay Auch wenn "nur" in englischer Sprache vorliegend, so lässt sich dieses Buch vergleichsweise leicht lesen. Durch die mitgelieferten Beispieldateien lassen sich die im Buch beschreibenen Vorgänge leicht nachvollziehen (alles ist mehr als aureichend Detailliert dargestellt und entsprechende Hintergrundinformationen werden gleich mitgeliefert) - und laden gleichzeitig zum mitmachen ein - so bekommt man auch gleich ein Gefühl für den Workflow dieser ausgezeichneten Videoschnittsoftware - die auch die Audiobearbeitung soweit erlaubt, wie kaum eine andere Videoschnittsoftware - , die leider hierzulande noch immer ein Nischendasein fristet. Die beiliegende DVD ist mit fast 8 GB vollgepackt mit: - Sony Vegas PlugIns (zum Testen und Freeware) - Audio Dateien - Projektdateien - Videodateien mit diesen Inhalten lassen sich die Einheiten aus dem Buch prima nachvollziehen. Gegenüber dem Vorgängerbuch Vegas Pro 9 Editing Workshop wurde - bis auf weite Teile des Vorwortes - dieses Buch neu geschrieben und den aktuellen Gegebenheiten und Versionen angepaßt. Wer sich in Vegas Pro 10/11 bzw. "Movie Studio" einarbeiten möchte - und das lohnt sich absolut - der findet findet mit diesem Buch einen guten Einstieg und auf diesen 518 Seiten (ohne Index) findet sich jede Menge an nützlichen Informationen um sich für diese Videoschnittsoftware zu begeistern.

This is a book written by an enthusiast for enthusiasts. What Douglas Spotted Eagle doesn't know about the Sony software isn't worth knowing. This is a logical, very detailed book with plenty of screenshots and covers the whole video-editing workflow. Unlike many similar books, it also covers the encoding process very thoroughly, so that you can get the best output for any kind of media. Highly recommended. However when I saw that the package was to be delivered by Yodel, my heart sank as I knew from previous experience that their tracking data is a joke and they are past masters at losing parcels. My apprehension was fully justified and I had to get Amazon to send me a second copy by Royal Mail. The Yodel copy never did arrive. I wish Amazon woulds take note of all the negative comments and stop using this courier.

Another excellent book (and disc) by Douglas Spotted Eagle. Easy to follow and walks you through Sony Vegas Pro v11. Master this excellent software - also available from Amazon - and create some stunning Sony Vegas Pro 11 (PC) videos and DVDs.

Wer Vegas Pro 11 (oder auch Vegas Video Studio 11) verwendet und sich in das Programm einarbeiten will, dem sei dieses Buch sehr empfohlen. Es ist in für Nicht-Muttersprachler gut verständlichem Englisch (nicht viele Terms and Phrases) geschrieben und enthält neben der genauen Beschreibung der Programmfunktionen auch gute Tips bezüglich der Vorgehensweise. Auch wer mit Profi-Formaten (in meinem Fall dem XDCAM EX Ableger JVC PRO HD) arbeitet, bekommt sehr wertvollte Informationen. In meinem Fall war es die korrekte Einstellung in den Projekteinstellungen, denn ich hatte mich immer darüber geärgert, das meine JVC GY-HM100 scheinbar überbelichtet, was natürlich nicht der Fall ist. Das Buch ist so aufgebaut, dass man es zuerst als Gesamtes durchlesen kann, aber so gegliedert, dass man einzelne Funktionen auch nachschlagen kann. der einzige Punkt, wo ich mir noch etwas mehr gewünscht hätte, ist die Beschreibung des Authoring-Programm DVD Architect Pro 5.2, denn das hat auch noch sehr viele interessante Funktonen (zum Beispiel mehrere Bild- und Tonspuren. Alles in allem ein sehr empfehlenswertes Buch, denn für dieses Programm gibt es keine Bücher.
