Q: I'm a teacher and need strips to test the presence of glucose in milk. Any chance these could be dipped in milk and somehow work?

I rarely give simple answers, but they are thorough. The sugar in milk is, I am pretty sure, all lactose. It is broken into glucose and fructose early in the gut by the enzyme lactase. if not, bacteria later turn it into lactic acid and give you diarrhea, in two hours or cumulativly over a period of days of regular consumption (A lot all at once is better than a little every day. - like 1-1/2 Q of icecream.) True cheese is safe for being fully fermented (No American, Velveeta, cottage or ricotta), i.e. predigested by fermentation, and some yogurts. Lactose (almost) - free (Predigested with added lactase – read lable) milk, Icecream, et al are available under Lactaid (Very well treated) and other brands (Some not so well treated).
