This has been an amazing update to my M4 Mac Mini. I got the base model which was had stellar performance but was hindered by the small 256gb drive. I was constantly having to move data around to just keep the system going. This replacement was easy to install, easy to format, and easy to get up and going using a time machine backup. It has performed flawlessly and delivered the speeds advertised - which i didnt fully expect. This was the single best upgraded i have done for a mac computer and turned my M4 Mac Mini into a powerhouse machine that i should be able to use for several years into the future.

I'm giving it 4 stars because its too early to tell. There are so many brands out there for this upgrade that there doesn't seem to be any universally recommended one. So all I did was read the reviews and decided to try this particular one. The installation was very simple (as shown on Youtube). Restoring the operating system worked exactly as described on Youtube. I did the speed test and yes is is certainly faster than the original 256GB chip. I have the Mac mini backed up via time machine incase the chip fails. I'll come back in a few months and update the review.

So far, so good. I got a base Mac Mini mostly due to the sale by a “tiny center”, and was able to snag it for $400. However, I wanted to make this a dedicated music production machine, so the 256gb was filling up rapidly. I poked around for larger SSDs, and was about set on getting one from one of the couple dedicated storefronts for these drives. However, the day I planned to order one, the price jumped by $60. I understand that there’s supply chain issues as a result of NAND shortages, but man, I couldn’t justify that. Luckily, I came across this listing. I am hesitant to order from random, no-name brands on Amazon - especially so for expensive and sensitive items like disk drives - but this looked just like the ones I’d seen elsewhere, and the price increases hadn’t hit yet. One nice thing is that I literally had this in hand the day after ordering - the lead time at the other sellers was a few weeks at minimum. That may very well not be the case at the time you;re reading this review, however. I do not own another Mac (have an iPad and iPhone, though), so I had to use a virtual machine on my windows machine (AMD processor, so even more finnicky) to flash the drive. It definitely required more technical skills, but nothing you can’t figure out if you have the patience. I used a virtual machine with Sequioa, and simply connected the mac mini via a USB C to USB A cable. I have no clue what the cable was rated for, it was one that I got with a keyboard awhile back. However, it worked without an issue. Took maybe 20 minutes to flash with the latest Tahoe build. Getting the VM set up is the most difficult part. I did not expect the VM to immediately recognize the mini as soon as I connected it to my PC, but it surprisingly did. That all being said, I definitely recommend that you use another mac if you can. Borrow one from a friend if you need. Doing so would have saved me hours of time (however I enjoy tinkering, so it was a useful learning experience). I am getting the same benchmark results that other reviewers have posted. Time will tell how long the drive lasts…but I am confident it will. Should anything arise, I will absolutely update this review.

Works as advertised. Shipping was a bit slow compare to normal time due to holiday shipping congestion, but I am happy I had it. So far, it works great without any issue. I have to say this SSD upgrade is well worth the price for my mini m4. Even the installation process was smoother than I thought. If you are not so handy with computers like myself, watching the instruction video is key. Once you get yourself familiar with the process, it is really easy to follow through. I would definitely recommend it to fellow mini m4 owners. Great product!

The instillation process was very straightforward, there’s plenty of videos online on how to complete it. The tools provided worked great, I only ran into an issue with the screw that holds apples SSD in place. It was fastened extremely tight and I had to work at it for around 15 minutes until I finally got it. The second issue I ran into was with the computer I used for my restore on the Mac mini in DFU mode not running the latest MacOS. Likely because of bugs present in early releases of Tahoe that had not yet been accounted for. Once I updated MacOS I ran into no other issues. Easily worth the massive savings.
