Everyone seems so worried about the moisture level when it comes to vanilla beans but what I’ve noticed is really the big tell on a good beans are the strength of it smell. These beans have a strong vanilla sent and of all the different beans I tested to see which one made the best vanilla these beans came out on top. The beans are about 6 to 8 inches long and good quality and freshness for vanilla making. They’re perfect and everyone I gifted vanilla last year was disappointed I didn’t do it again this year! Lol I’ve included a picture of the latest bottle I currently have so you can see the beautiful dark rich color these beans make. I like to use rum when making my vanilla. The quantity is perfect for my needs.

I have bought these a few times now. They are very dry (grade B beans have a varied level of moisture). I usually make vanilla extract with the pressure cooker method and they are perfect for that! The heat and the sealed jar turns out wonderful extract. Then I strain the extract and use the beans to make vanilla paste for baking. This time though I am using these beans in the long extract method, so in 6-12 months I'll be able to say how that worked out. This package has 50 beans. I made 5 jars of extract, each containing 8-10 beans that weighed 0.55 ounces per jar (so about 2.75 total oz in this package.) That should give you an idea of how much these weigh and how dry they are.

I went on a mission to make my own vanilla extract this year and used these beans along with amber jars (see my other review). The beans arrived in good condition and smelled great. I wasn’t able to split them the way the directions suggested, so instead I divided the 50 beans evenly between four jars and covered them with vodka. They’ve been sitting for about six months now. At this point, the extract smells like vanilla—but still pretty vodka-forward, which I understand is normal this early in the process. So far, everything looks and smells exactly as it should. This was my first time making extract, and these beans worked well for that purpose. I’ll have a better long-term opinion once the extract fully matures, but so far I’m happy with the quality. Pros: • Good aroma • Arrived in good condition • Worked well for DIY extract Cons: • Hard to split as directed • Final results take time (not a quick project) I’d consider buying these again if I decide to do another batch, but I want to see how this one finishes first.
