Great use of scripture.
I really enjoyed that each devotional began with reading not just a single verse, but a section of scripture. Then the devotional ties the scripture to our lives and breaks down the scripture into something you can the away. I started it last September and finished it this week. It really helped me with setting aside time to spend reading God’s Word. Really grateful to have had this over the last year. Some days spoke directly to things I was dealing with in my life. Other days my eyes were opened to things that I needed to be more mindful of. Great devotional for men!

Three is generally the lowest score I'll give...
This is perhaps e of the worst devotional a I've ever completed. I've tried to figure out why, and I have some ideas, but ultimately whatever the reason it was a slog trying to get through this one.First and foremost, one would think a yearly devotional takes into consideration the seasons and celebrations typical to Christianity. At the very least appeal to the changing tights as we travel into certain holidays, and perhaps even relevant historical events. There's none of that here. As far as I can tell y get a rand passage, that ultimately does little more than just describes historical significance, with a light touching on how it may apply to men.Even taking that I t, I often struggled with the, light the author puts those in the ancient world in. For example (spoiler alert), the last devotional is Psalm 147. The author uses this as an example of how the Israelites had it together, and even with all of our technology, we are somehow missing the big picture and giving proper thanks to God. So... sure, that last part is the whole reason someone turns to a devotional. But I mean, let's think about it. The Psalm is written during the returning of the exiles. People that are missing it, and have missed it just as much as their modern counterparts. If anything, it's a call to... look how similar we are, despite the sparse of time.I tried to put the above aside, but I also struggled with the male stereotypes used in the devotional. Apparently we are all sports-watching, misguided leaders of the house, and struggling in our jobs, because of the very few devotional here that actually touch on issues unique to men, these were the common themes.I really did try to like it, and maybe it's something where there was an age-group mismatch (I'm in my thirties). However, as I read the last day, I finally smiled knowing it as over.I highly recommend Our Dailey Bread or My Utmost for His Highest.

Do not get for newer believer - complex themes and pretentious writing.
It is OK but the writing feels very pretentious and I would not recommend for a newer believer. Complex themes right from the start. Also, not much practicality for “daily life experiences” if looking for something like that. This is more of a spiritual development / deeper understanding of the word and God in our lives. Not a bad thing at all but I do not really care for the style or approach.

Excellent devo for guys
I used to attend Stuart Briscoe's church in WI - one of the best pulpit pastors in America - so when I saw that he had a devo for guys, I had to get it. Excellent - 365 days of just great encouragement and inspiration from the Word of God and Stuart's wit and wisdom combined. Get one for yourself and a couple for your friends - they'll thank you for it! The devo takes about 5 minutes to read and there is a daily scripture reference for additional reading - all told you're looking at 10-15 minutes max and it's timely, well written and biblically solid.

Highly recommend
Clear, crisp writing, with real depth. I bought it for my 84 yr old father who read it daily ...year after year. I too read it along with him, so that we could compare notes as we read.
