The book was very informative and gave short stories of some knights through the ages. I appreciated being able to read it without being bogged down with a bunch of tedious details. The details on becoming a knight varies from country to country and the book gives good insights and reveals some fallacies of Hollywood versions. One of the most interesting was Chivalry did not apply to most people. A good read.

An enjoyable read.
Very well written for those (like me) with a casual interest in the life and times. A scholar would be disappointed, although I could see a place for it in a lower division/junior college curriculum. I enjoyed the time spent reading it.

Fun, interesting and educational read
Very interesting and entertaining way of writing a text book. I am an adult and found it very entertaining and plan to pass it on to my nephew. Not a lot of detailed analysis, but a very concise overview of what it meant to be various forms of Knight or Man-at-Arms in the 14th century.

It was good
lots of information for later period knights... I am more interested in earlier period so :/ I still thought it was worth getting and adding to my collection.

A must for any knight
I am a knight belonging to an order of Knights. I purchased this book because I wanted to learn the traditions that come along with knighthood and learn some history, as well as details about armor.

Fantastic - a total must!
Michael Prestwich is of course a top medievalist (see for example The Three Edwards: War and State in England 1272-1377Plantagenet England: 1225-1360 (New Oxford History of England) etc etc) and I was very diverted to find his name on the front of this rather cheery looking little book.Inside however is the product of immense scholarship and a sense of humour both deployed to admiration. If you have ever wondered what being a medieval knight was like MP can tell you - and more than that, he can tell you in a medieval knight's own words, because he has read all the sources. And he can also do that without making it boring, by chosing a perfect quotation and having it fit right into a narrative you are loving - a neat trick to pull, though maybe not too much of a stretch for a man of his experience. This is a book which will fascinate small boys and girls who do want to know what being a knight was like - but it will also, without their realising it, instil in them a real interest in history done properly - through real sources and trustable facts. Imagine horrible histories written by a top historian and without the really silly jokes and you will get the idea. Prestwich has produced something really useful, reliable and impressive - without stopping it being fascinating or amusing.I am sending it to all the boys and tomboys I know (and keeping a copy for myself too!) THE best book on Knights.
Just received my copy of Knight and can honestly say even though I have several books on the subject, this little book one, if not the best, of them all! Very instructive and full of interest with delightful black and white pictures and the colour sections excellent. The "extras" are great, even a good map. I did buy some years ago a very expensive book on Knights, but this one will be the one most used. Hope the author Michael Prestwich reads this! He should be congratulated.

Excellent insight to the life of a Knight.
Knight provides some very interesting material on knights during the 100 years war in which this book is set. There are several chapters allowing for good reference when you wish to find out about the armour the knights wore, the best and most famous knights such as John Hawkwood, jousting, the weapons used by knights and some of the many knightly orders of chivalry that existed at this time such as the order of the star and the order of the garter. There are impressive pictures and anecdotes in this book and keeps the reader well informed throughout. In all an excellent book for those interested in chivalry and knights and is an excellent historic source for discovering the battles and knights, people and places of note at that time in history.

Surprisingly good
Surprisingly good. Light hearted but actually very interesting. Kind of like "knights for dummies"

Excellent, light hearted and informative
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Even the footnotes are well chosen and maintain the "Knighthood for Dummies" theme. I'd cheerfully recommend it.
