Yes, it does have aux input that is same size as ipod earphone output. Ipod will play via cable thru the JBL Charge 2+.

Ive had this speaker for just over a year....it no longer holds a charge at all... is this normal?!

No, this is not normal. I've had my JBL Charge 2+ since 2016 and it still works like a charm. How long do you charge it? How often do you charge it? Maybe you overcharged the battery. Did you call JBL to see if they can replace the battery? Or did the speaker get submerged in water? Splashproof does not mean submerge.
