They have to broken in
Guns are machines, plain and simple. They are made of steel and steel when it is first manufactures is sharp and rough. There are many parts of a rifle that need to be properly broken in. This is a controversial topic. There are many internet ninja's who will tell you that you do not need to break in barrels and other rifle components. I have dealt with machines of different types for over 20 years. I will tell you that steel machinery needs to be properly broken in to get maximum performance out of them. Guns are not exception.I personally break in each and every new barrel that I own. This lapping kit allows me to break them in quicker and more consistently in much the same way that many top end barrel manufacturers do. You can also use the lapping compound to help break in bolts and barrel extensions.

It Just Works
Used this on my Ruger Blackhawk Flattop in .44 Special. Fired nine cast bullets, each impregnated with successively coarser grit. As is common in Ruger's of larger calibers, there was a constriction in the barrel throat right at the forcing cone. After fire lapping, the constriction was at very least greatly reduced. I will have the gunsmith check groove diameter next week to see if I need to repeat the procedure, but so far, accuracy seems acceptable and the bore has a mirror finish. Follow the detailed instructions and you will have no issues, don't follow them and good luck to you. They say it can be done with jacketed bullets. I do not recommend this, but your mileage may vary. I used a .7 cc Lee scoop of Trail Boss for my lapping loads. This worked just fine with 240 - 265 grain .430" cast bullets. Its a good product that does the job without paying for Taylor thorating.

Wheeler Bore Lapping Kit
WOW! What a difference. Follow instructions and you will finish up with a clean, smooth bore that is easier to clean after firing, and you will remove some of the factory burrs and rough spots inside your barrel. I recommend it.Assembling ammo for this chore does require you to be able to reload empty cases with the proper components after treating the projectiles with the grit paste included in the kit, and unless you are a reloader or have a friend who can load the ammo for you, you should look for another method to polish your bore, as hand lapping is a long tedious process and is not recommended without proper lapping tools.

Cheap fix for an expensive boo boo
I managed to gouge my M1 Garand barrel chamber and I smeared some on a modified casing and stuck it to a drill and it took off all the high points and polished the chamber up nicely! Thank you Wheeler!

No plates or instructions.
My "kit" arrived quickly, but no steel plates or instructions. What i recieved is a replacement set of the compounds which can be purchased for $5 less. I'll improvise, but not real happy.

Disappointed
Was disappointed that the kit was incomplete based on advertising. Didn't have the metal plates or instructions. Able to improvise but shouldn't have to.
