The product is different to those shown in the photos & is now much worse.Philips have changed the design but don't seem to have bothered taking new photos and updating the product info here (or on their official Philips site).I purchased several Lightstrip Plus products over the summer, and what arrived is exactly what is shown in the product photos on the Amazon and Philips websites. You get a 2m lightstrip with connectors at both ends, into one end you plug a thin ribbon cable which in turn plugs into a small box and then the power cable plugs into the other end. Perfect.The 2m lightstrip I received last month (and only just opened to install) now has a cable connected and heat sealed at one end which connects into the box which is also sealed. There is no way of removing the box from the lightstrip, it is all one section. This makes it VERY difficult if not impossible to conceal the lightstrip (isn't that the whole point of these?!). My plan for the latest one I bought was to have a vertical lightstrip in the corner of room in an aluminium profile with a frosted cover. The power end of the cable was to go through a small hole in the ceiling and then connect up with a 1m extension cable (that you can buy from Philips) into the box in the attic. However, this is now impossible. The only option would be to drill a larger hole in the ceiling and feed the 2m length down from the attic, but because of where the roof joists are there is no access. It would have been fine to feed up the smaller extension cable with the old lightstrip and reach for it in the attic, which is why I bought this, expecting it to be the same product.I spoke with Philips who said yes, they have recently changed the product to Version 3 and the main change is with the connection. Hopefully they can source some of the older Version 2 lightstrips for me, because this new one is completely impractical.I'm renovating my whole house and was planning on using multiple of these lightstrips in the living room and in the kitchen underneath cabinets and countertops, combined with other Hue products. I had resigned myself to paying slightly more to use Phililps just so everything could work from one app. I don't want to walk into a room and think, hmm, which app do I need to open to change the lights in this room. However, I need to seriously reconsider using Philips for my lighting because the design of this new lightstrip seriously limits your ability to put them where you want and/or to conceal them. How can you create a run of these lightstrips under a countertop or under kitchen cabinets when you have this bulky box attached to one end.

Hallo Amazon Gemeinde,nachdem ich das Philips Hue LightStrip Set schon länger als indirekte Beleuchtung hinter dem Schreibtisch und unter dem Bett habe, habe ich mir ein weiteres Set als „Ambilight-Ersatz“ hinter meinem LG TV gegönnt.Verpackung und Inbetriebnahme:Verpackung und Lieferumfang sind wie bei Hue-System üblich recht minimalistisch gehalten. Es ist gerade alles dabei, dass die LEDs grundsätzlich in Betrieb genommen werden können. Für die Steuerung per Smartphone ist zusätzlich eine „Bridge“ nötig. Das Netzteil hat einen Wechselstecker für EU und vermutlich UK Steckdosen.Das LED Band selbst ist meist nach kurzer Zeit schon angeklebt. Die Steckverbindungen für Strom sind ebenfalls selbsterklärend und schnell verbunden. Einzig die recht steifen und unflexible LED Band könnte ein wenig stören. So ist es insbesondere schwierig den LED Strip in engem 90 Grad Winkel hinter dem TV anzubringen. Dies erfordert ein wenig Planung und Geduld.Über die Smartphone App wurde die neue Leuchte gleich von der vorhandenen Bridge erkannt und eine Steuerung wurde somit hergestellt.Im Einsatz:Rein als Hintergrundbeleuchtung für den TV ist der Hue LED Strip den „konventionellen“ LED Hintergrundbeleuchtung hier auf Amazon weit überlegen. Konkret konnte ich das direkt mit dem, zugegeben deutlich günstigeren, Revoltec Backlight Set SMD-15 vergleichen.Besonders herausstreichen möchte ich hier die gleichmäßige Ausleuchtung unabhängig von der gewählten Farbe und Helligkeitsgrad.Was ich meine ist: Bei den Revoltec LEDs bricht das Licht so, dass man unter,- und oberhalb vom TV an der Wand die jeweiligen Grundfarben Rot, Grün oder Blau meist in Streifen sehen kann. Die Farbqualität lässt also zu wünschen übrig. Bei den Hue LEDs tritt das Phänomen glücklicherweise nicht auf.Ich führe dies auf die besondere Anordnung der LEDs zurück. So besteht ein LED Set immer aus drei einzelnen LEDs. (Warm, kalt und RGB LED).Im Allgemeinen sind die LightStrips sehr hochwertig, die Leuchteigenschaften sind hervorragend. So können die sehr hell sein oder sehr stark gedimmt, die Ausleuchtung ist gleichmäßig. Farben werden sehr homogen dargestellt, die Farbbrillanz ist überzeugend.In der App lassen sich die frei konfigurierbaren Farben in Presets speichern. Einige vordefinierte wie „Tropical twilight“ gefallen mir übrigens sehr gut. Weitere als „Hue Laps“ genannte Sets lassen sich aus dem Internet herunterladen. So können die LightStrips z.B. ein flackerndes Feuer nachahmen.Zusatzfunktionen:Als Zusatzfeature sind alle Leuchten mit Apples HomeKit kompatibel. Dazu wird die Bridge in die „Home“ App aufgenommen. Sehr praktisch kann sein, dass dadurch sämtliche Lampen ohne weitere Konfiguration über das Internet und Apples iCloud gesteuert werden können. Wem das nicht gefällt, verweigert der Home App einfach den Zugriff auf die Bridge. Um dieses Feature zu nutzen braucht es übrigens einen „HomeKit Server“, also ein iPad oder einen Apple TV. Beim Apple TV reicht es, wenn er im Standby (Ruhemodus) läuft.Ein weiteres LightStrip Set benutze ich als indirekte Beleuchtung hinter einem Schreibtisch. In Verbindung mit einem PC oder MAC kann das LED Band gemeinsam mit der App „Hue Sync“ dynamische, an den Bildinhalt angepasste, Beleuchtung erzeugen. Ähnlich wie bei den Ambilight TV's von Philips selbst. Eine recht neue und ziemlich coole Spielerei, die dazu wirklich klasse aussieht.Für den Einsatz einer dynamischen Beleuchtung am TV müsste dieser jedoch direkt mit einem PC verbunden sein. Alle die einen HTPC nutzen dürften sich über „Hue Sync“ sicher sehr freuen. Dynamische Beleuchtung für den TV war denke ich noch nie einfacher „selbstgebastelt“ zu bekommen.Bzgl. Erweiterbarkeit habe ich mir fürs Bett einige Erweiterungen auf insges. 6 m besorgt. Auch hier sind die Leuchteigenschaften gleich wie bei dem 2 m Set. Praktisch ist, dass bei den Erweiterungssets ein ca. 10 cm kurzes Kabel mitgeliefert wird um enge 90 Grad Winkel viel leichter zu bekleben.Fazit:Qualitativ sehr hochwertige LED Strips um verschiedenste Projekte durchzuführen. Die App ermöglicht umfangreiche Steuerungs,- sowie Programmierfunktionen. In machen Szenarien würde ich mir jedoch einfach nur eine Fernbedienung wünschen, da es nicht immer notwendig ist die umfangreichen Möglichkeiten der App zu nutzen. Die LEDs hinterm TV steure ich inzwischen größtenteils mit der Harmony Fernbedienung von Logitech. Das funktioniert sehr zufriedenstellend.Kurz zusammengefasst heißt das für mich:++Leuchteigenschaften++steuerbar (über App)+erweiterbar+einfach einzurichten-recht steif und unflexibel-nicht günstig-Bridge zur Steuerung separat erhältlich- Fernbedienung wäre manchmal einfacherFür den Fall, dass meine Rezension hoffentlich doch für den einen oder anderen hilfreich war, würde ich mich über eine kurze Bewertung weiter unten sehr freuen. Als Fan der Philips Hue Produkte habe ich den Lightstrip Plus gekauft. Positiv zu erwähnen sind auf jeden Fall die sehr guten Farben und die hervorragende Helligkeit. Der Strip fügt sich homogen in ein vorhandenes System ein und ist natürlich über die Hue-App steuerbar. Zu erwähnen ist allerdings, dass sich die einzelnen LEDs auf dem Strip einen etwas größeren Abstand haben und deshalb, falls direkt an der Wand angebracht, kleine Lichthöfe bilden, die sich erst bei ca. 5 cm zu einem gleichmäßigen Licht mischen.Meine Begeisterung für den Strip wurde durch das laute, hochfrequente Fiepen des Netzteils allerdings sehr schnell gedämpft. Speziell bei Weißtönen bzw. allgemein wenn der Strip hellere Farben anzeigen muss, wird über das Netzteil ein sehr penetranter Ton erzeugt. Im Internet bzw. hier in anderen Rezensionen wird ja ebenfalls darüber berichtet. Bei so einem hochpreisigen und eigentlich hochwertigen Produkt erwarte ich Qualität bei allen Komponenten. Der Philips-Support hat mir zu einem Austausch über den Händler geraten, was von Amazon auch sehr schnell ausgeführt wurde, klasse Service! Doch auch der Austausch-Strip zeigt dieses penetrante Fiepen, bei bestimmten Farben sogar noch lauter.Fazit: Lichtqualität ist Hue-typisch klasse, aber die Netzteil-Problematik macht das Produkt für mich unbrauchbar. Speziell bei diesem Preis eine echte Enttäuschung.

Das Netzteil fiept sehr laut. Das ist insbesondere bei diesem Preis und der sonst guten Philips Qualität nicht akzeptabel. Schade

Like top comment from Oyster Dyster said, why on earth did Philips change the head connector to sealed? The LED driver box although is small but it is still bulky and you'd ideally want the ability to extend the connection from the box to the strip without cutting the factory wire and void the warranty!The LEDs are quite spaced out and bright, which creates a 'dot' effect if you place it too close to a surface/wall. If you want a smooth colour on the wall, you actually need roughly 8cm spacing to see a continuous light band. This noticeably reduced the overall brightness and may affect your purchase decision if you intend to use it for ambient illumination as well as colour effect. It is really baffling why they decided to seal the head connector, wrap a bulky sleeve but still only IP20 rating (the extension connector is exposed).If you are like me who doesn't have the luxury of 8cm spacing, you will want to consider using a profile with an opaque diffuser lens. This brings the 3rd problem which is the bulk of the clear silicone sleeve. It is just too wide to fit inside typical aluminium profile and you'll need to get extra wide profiles or throw away the sleeve and void warranty.Philips have made deliberate design choices that results in the above 3 issues, reducing the overall flexibility of the product. However, it doesn't take away the fact it works well as a Hue colour light. Colour rendering is great, colour change is smooth and responsive. It was plug and play with my existing hue bridge, took all of 30 seconds to get it going. The extension connector is also neat and flat. I have a 1m extension which plugs to the end of the 2m strip. The extension has correct spacing for the led making a very uniform 3m strip. Another plus is I imagine a bit of hot glue or shrink wrap over the join and strip end will easily waterproof it for outdoor use. But you'd need to protect the driver unit which has a fixed wire!
