Nigel McGilchrist's book was just what we needed before our trip to the Northern Dodecanese. While we looked at the usual staples -- Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, etc., none of them dig as deeply into the area as this volume. From small Tavernas and guest houses, to the larger tourist sites, the book covers it all.Positives- Wide breadth and depth of the subject matter, not easy to find in tour guides for this area- Unique insight into the history and culture of the area- Off the beaten path sites are covered for covering the less touristy spotsWhat this book doesn't have, and I think the author intended it that way, is the big glossy pages and graphic picturesyou will find in other guide books. So if that is what you are looking for, this may not be the guide for you. But it does have a wealth of information on the history, culture, and architecture of the location and was a great joy to have on our recent trip. We will definitely pick up other volumes or maybe the whole set for the next time we visit Greece.
