A fun and beautiful story
Both my 2.5 and 6-year-old love this story. I too enjoy reading it. The story, grammar, and life lesson are great and it included some humourous points, which is fun. Pictures are beautifully illustrated and lovely also and enjoyed by everyone.

Great Book for Kids!
This book really makes lemonade out of lemons! Elementary school students can really relate to a gift they didn't want. This book gently makes a point that good things can come out of hard situations.

Wonderful, engaging, full of heart
I loved this book! With a light but beautifully effective and child-friendly touch, Deenihan conveys multiple messages. Don't be rude to Grandma when she gives you a birthday gift that is not on your carefully curated wish list. Take care of living things, in this case Lola the lemon tree. Have fun with what you've got- lemons! Put down the electronics. Share. You can make a difference. The main character, a little girl, has no name, so the emphasis is on her actions. The second person voice is engaging, speaking directly to the reader, involving you in the action. Grandma gets the story rolling and helps with the lemonade but the little girl is very much self-directed.The illustrations pair perfectly with the story and add extra layers. You see diversity and inclusivity in the neighborhood and you see the children putting down the robot dog, cell phone, drone, etc. and choosing to engage with one another in the beautiful garden. In case you didn't know, Deenahan and Rocha have another book on the way: When Grandpa Gives You a Toolbox. Check the end papers at the back of ...Lemon Tree for a glimpse of Grandpa's truck pulled up at the curb.

Imagine Again!
Grandma gives a Lemon Tree full of ideas! She knows that kids today spend so much time on their electronic devices and that maybe mom and dad have relied on them too much to keep their kids company. What to do with a lemon tree? Caring for a live plant takes time, plus a bit of love and thoughtfulness - especially in this book!Lorraine Rocha is one of my favorite illustrators! She brings the story to life and adds the right amount of whimsy to entertain people of all ages!Read this book to your little ones to get them interested in the "doing of things"; have your middle schoolers read it when they need to be reminded that their electronic devices can and need to be put down so they can revisit the world of their own imaginations. Read it again yourself just for the fun of it!Thank you Jamie and Lorraine for creating such a brilliant story!

Class favorite
This book really struck a chord with my class this year. I showed a digital version for a read aloud and they all begged me to buy a hard copy. They regularly asked me to read this to them. Great story!

Fantastic book with wonderful illustrations
Fantastic book! I purchased it to read to my k students during our plant unit because another teacher recommended it. I first skimmed the book, and I missed so many of the details of the story in the illustrations. I caught on while reading it with my own children, ages 8 and 10. I was able to use this book in my classroom over the course of 5 days. Some discussions we had revolved around these things: making predictions, emotions, being polite and kind, wants verses needs, and earning money. It pairs well with the book “Harlem Grown.” I highly recommend this book!!
