Ideal short cable for connecting older drives to modern usb-c laptops
This high-speed USB-C to Micro-B cable is a handy solution for bridging older external hard drives with newer USB-C only laptops. I mainly use it to connect an ageing Seagate portable HDD directly to my modern devices, and it has worked reliably from the first plug-in. The cable itself feels very well made. The outer jacket is reasonably thick and flexible without being floppy, and the strain reliefs at both ends look robust enough to cope with regular plugging and unplugging. The connectors fit snugly into both the USB-C port and the Micro-B drive socket with no wobble or looseness, which is important for consistent data transfer. In daily use, transfer speeds feel noticeably better compared to my previous setup, where I used an older USB-A to Micro-B cable paired with a USB-C adapter. Using a direct USB-C connection seems to provide a more stable and faster link when copying large files such as photo libraries and video clips from the external drive. The short 0.5m length is practical for desk use, especially when the drive sits close to the laptop, or when using a docking station or hub, helping to reduce cable clutter. It may be a bit short for more flexible setups, but for travel or compact workspaces it is ideal. Build quality gives a good impression of durability, and the moulded plugs look cleanly finished with no sharp edges or visible defects. There are no obvious witness lines or weak seams in the plastic housings, suggesting decent manufacturing quality. At £6.99, value for money is good. For a relatively inexpensive cable, it provides a reliable and faster-feeling connection for older Micro-B external hard drives when used with modern USB-C devices, which makes it a worthwhile upgrade over using adapters.

A well built cable
I'm in the middle of a rather nutty project atm, and just needed that very size and spec of cable to link a NVME enclosure to a USB port...and you'd be amazed at how hard it is to find. Thankfully Vine did its usual magic, and a really nicely made, properly braided cable appeared. It pushes data at the edvertised rate, clicks in neatly on both sides, and though I haven't tested it for charging (as we're talking SSD) there was no interruptions in power during a large file transfer so all good on reliability too, Easy to use, well made, and great value, what's not to like?
