looks more expensive than it was!
10/22/24 I received my Hamilton Beach "Extra-tall electric can opener. I had my former can opening for 28 years.( I won't mention here I got it from) It still works but not cutting through the cans as it used too. It's tall. The one I received is about 4 inches short, but I love it. My kitchen is black and staineless steel appliances so this little cutie fit right in with the decor. First, it's not that thin "tinny" type opener, it beautiful shine and sutrdy stainless steel. Unlike my plastic can oper, this one is much mor quieter, it almost hums when I pen a can.( my old one even in it's "youth" it sort moaned! I like that in easy clean the detachable blade. And it has a knife/scissoer sharpner in the back too. As I said it's a bit more dainty, but it's a better machine. And here's the good news, it's under $22.00 dollars, I paid 19.99 for one almost 30 years ago. Excellent working, good looking and thrifty, I recommend this produc.t!!

Bad product with no good support to get problem solved
This can opener never worked. . When trying to use it to open cans it would not cut them open or allow the can to continue through its opening process. Unfortunately I was in process of moving and was not able to try and use the can opener until after the closed window dates of returning it and had no packaging or any proof of purchase so I had to merely throw it away and now have to purchase another can opener which certainly wonโt be a Hamilton Brach one. Very sorry I selected this product and extremely dissatisfied with purchase.

Didn't last a year.
Worked good for a few months and then started the issues. Some cans it would not open and now it's not a year old and won't open hardly any. The gear bogs down and will not turn, I have cleaned everything on it and even sharpened the blade but it's useless. I threw it in the trash and buying a different brand.

great can opener! works with ease even on heavy cans
Hamilton Beach Automatic Can Opener, Electric, with Easy-Clean Detachable Cutting Lever, Knife Sharpener, Cord Storage, Brushed Stainless Steel (76700) I had manual can openers for most of my life and i tried the type of small battery powered electric openers that just clamp the can and "crawl" around the can -- but that broke within 1 year (after buying those openers 2x). I decided to buy a hefty tabletop one that is plug in this time. I will say this right up front: in my opinion, if you are able, you should just use a manual can opener. The only reason why i buy electric one is because i have folks in my house that find it difficult to clamp manual openers and twist and i'm not around to always help open cans. It is just yet another appliance you have to store and bring out or keep on countertop permanently. IF you c an help it, i recommend sticking to a manual opener. As for this Hamilton Beach opener? It is built well, and actually looks nice with the SS facia. Has a bit of heft weight to it which allows the opener to hold up a very heavy can (such as the one in my video) without tipping over. The usage is very simple: just clamp it down , and press the lever and you dont really need to hold the can while its turning. See video of full operation. There is a magnet to catch the lid after as with most electric openers as expected. Functionally it works great. I have no issues. Zero effort opener. I cannot comment on longevity yet because i've only had it for a few days. But it does look like it is built to last. It should basically last forever in my opinion. I would report back if it breaks within a year which is not acceptable. In terms of cleaning, the handle does come apart to expose the blade/cog. So if you do get the parts dirty , its easy to pull off the handle and just hand clean with a rag. That's something unique about this opener and i actually appreciate that it can be removed to aid cleaning. One last thing, it has this small "knife sharpener" on the back. It's just manual sharpener. You run your blade thru it like a fine honing stone. Nice to have but a dedicated sharpener is obviously better.

Canopener from the USA!!
I have given this four stars, because not only does it havek an American type plug, you must buy a voltage convertor. Not just an American convertor plug, like I did. It didn't quite light up like a Xmas tree, I unplugged it before it did. After it stopped smoking, I binned it. So, number two. It is well boxed, and came in perfect condition. It looks good, and works just fine. And weeks later, it still does. There is no problems opening cans anymore. A fine addition to the kitchen!

why sell a product in england if you cant use it
Having received what may be a very good tin opener, it came with a European plug and no adaptor. It is a sealed cable so no chance of changing it either. a waste of my time and their money
