Murder comes to visit
I have been itching to start this series for months since I’m missing my pals Charlie and Diesel. This week’s theme call was the perfect opportunity. I took it with me to read during the down time at a baseball game and read every chance I got.The Southern Ladies series is about the Ducote sisters we read about in the Cat in the Stacks series. They are very mature aged sisters who live together in their family home.In Bless Her Dead Little Heart, a sorority sister, Rosabelle, finds her way back to Miss An’gel and Miss Dickce. She claims her family is trying to kill her. Unfortunately the entire family follows her from California to Mississippi. What follows is a weekend of murder and secrets being revealed. It was an entertaining read but I loathed Rosabelle. I’m sorry but I would have booted her out on her bum within five minutes. She was so rude to everyone and her treatment of her eldest especially had me in tears almost. Not that the daughter was an angel herself but geez Rosabelle treated her like trash.I am very excited to see if my library has the rest of the series. I will spread these out even though I want to snarf them down to help me get through the next nine months until the new Cat in the Stacks mystery, Hiss Me Deadly.

A bunch of people who don't get along, staying in a house, well someone is sure to be murdered!
Talk about your dysfunctional family! And to think that An'gel and Dickse were just minding their own business one day, babysitting their friend Charlie Harris's cat, Diesel. That crazy day when their friend Rosabelle from college showed up on their doorstep insisting her whole family was out to kill her. Imagine their surprise when said whole family showed up!This was a really a fun and sort of old school type mystery, really refreshing and different to have all the suspects in one house. It kind of reminded me of "And Then There Were None" as the murders started to happen. The Ducote sisters were something else! They were almost like the ladies in the Golden Girls show only both Southern and very curious about what's going on with these crazy people staying in their house. They didn't actually do the questioning, they did more talking about the case between the two of them. I thought it was cool how sometimes they would actually come up with the same idea at different times.I think my favorite character, aside from the sisters and Diesel, had to be Benjy, the stepson of Rosabelle's son Wade. He was nineteen years old, wanted to be a veterinarian and loved animals as much as Dickse did. I loved it when Dickse and Benjy would get together and do things, sort of like the grandmother figure he never had. When they rescued a cat and dog which they took to the veterinarian to be checked out, I could almost see the wheels turning in Dickse's mind.I had someone pegged for the murders but it sure wasn't the person who actually did it. Some great twists and turns to be had as well as an appearance by one of Rosabelle's husbands who had a secret of his own going on.I loved how this series is sort of tied into the other series by Miranda James, The Cat In the Stacks since Charlie Harris is the main character in that and the Ducote sisters are watching his cat for him. It's always pretty comical when people see Diesel who is a large Maine coon cat and they can't quite figure out why he's so big. I know I'll be reading the rest of this series eventually!

I loved the book I couldn't really put it down I loved the two older women unlike the other books that people write they always have people involved helping with the police dept. I just bought the rest of the series (3 books) hope they are as good as this one. This is a New York Bestselling Author!!!

A Fun Mystery!
This series is the spin off to Miranda James' Cats in the Stacks Mysteries and features Miss An'gel and Miss Dickce Ducote. The sisters are pet sitting Charlie Harris' maine coon cat, Diesel, and get themselves involved in an adventure. When their former sorority sister, Rosabelle Sultan, turns up on their door step, claiming that her family is trying to kill her they don't really believe her. After all Rosabelle loves drama! However when someone else falls victim to a trap set for Rosabelle it really looks like Rosabelle's family mean her harm. With the Sultan family residing at their house too, An'gel and Dickce must try to solve the mystery before they become the next victim.I just adore Diesel and the Cats in the Stacks Mysteries. This spin off was great. While I did miss Charlie Harris, I did like this story. An'gel and Dickce are such a hoot, and with their southern manners they tend to keep their snarky comments to themselves. That doesn't mean they don't think them. Rosabelle and her family are pretty uncouth and it was interesting watching them all clash with each other! This was my first time listening to a Miranda James novel. I've previously read all the others. However having said that I enjoyed Jorgena Marie's narration. I liked the southern accents she used and I would definitely listen to another book in this series, with her narration.Bless Her Dead Little Heart was a fun debut in this series. If you enjoy the Cats in the Stacks mysteries I thoroughly recommend picking this one up. If you are new to Miranda James give this one a try and I guarantee you that you will be racing out to buy her other series too!

A refreshing change.
I do love a good cosy mystery, and this book was such an enjoyable read. A closed circle mystery, for the most part, so we have all the victims, potential suspects, and murderer/s, under one roof (much to the dismay of the elderly Ducote sisters). This was fun, fast paced, and there were a lot of suspects to pick and choose between thanks to Rosabelle. Also a plus was the discovery that our main protagonists were two elderly spinster sisters, the aforementioned Ducote sisters, who were so steeped in Southern manners and hospitality, that I felts sorry for them when it bit them in the butt (you’ll find out why when you read this).Very entertaining, highly recommend.
