The ultimate practical guide to Pruning and Training by Richard Bird
I would highly recommend this book as it covers the subjects well including with detailed pictures and explanations and guidance. I also bought the RHS Pruning & training by Christopher brickell & David Joyce (hardback version) as this is also a very good reference. For my purpose which was to grow my own Plums, pears (conference) & Apple trees and both these books cover the other plants and trees to. I am very happy with this book.I also bought Growing Fruit by Harry Baker which is another good reference book but unlike the RHS books this book uses illustrations instead of actual photographs but that would be my only mark against it as I feel photographs show more detail in my opinion that a cartoon type illustration.

Concise.
Quite honestly having read the reviews this book is better than i imagined.A friend recently bought me another book by Richard Bird about vegetable gardens and l was so impressed that l looked at other titles he had written on the Amazon site and bought this book which arrived on time in very good condition as described.Very pleased indeed.

A must have for any gardener
This book tells me in very simplistic terms all I needed to know about pruning. I first read it on a trial basis from the local library, so realised it was a book for keeps and not for just a 3 week period. I now know what I have been doing wrong for the last few years, and look forward to an improvement in the future.

Essential
As in the title this is the essential guide to pruning and training - having moved to a house with a garden for the first time this has been a lifesaver, developing our knowledge from zero to at least something very quickly and able to act as a reference guide in the future.
