Perfect for quick access and secure storage.
I spent a lot of time researching to find what I wanted which was a way to secure my handgun at home, making it safe around the grandkids, yet easily and quickly accessible in an emergency. This GunVault SV500 SpeedVault is the ticket! I mounted it securely next to my bed in a location I can easily reach without getting out of bed, yet is hidden from view when someone is looking in the room. The wood screws they supplied in the package are pretty short so I replaced them with longer and deeper threaded ones that provided a more secure mount. The unit is very stable and secure and once mounted it works perfectly. It opens within a second of the code being entered and the gun is presented in such a way the person has immediate access to bring it into play. You can mute the beeps so when you enter the code it is silent. It is very easy to set the code and change it, but the unit has to be open to do so. The combinations you can use as a code are nearly endless. There is even a tamper indicator built into the key pad so you can tell if one of the kids has been messing with it. You get two keys with it as well. The small led light inside the vault gently illuminates the weapon for about 5 seconds when the vault opens. Yes, you can hear the vault open as the drawer release mechanism releases and the drawer comes to rest on its footing, but if you really need it, who cares? If you have it close to your bedside, open it when you go to bed and close it when you get ready to get out of bed in the morning. This is not a "Safe", meaning it won't protect your gun in a house fire and it can be opened by a determined person with a crowbar or sledge hammer. Depending on your method of mounting, if a person has the time, they could pry the vault off the wall and take it away to get into later. If you want a safe, buy a safe, bolt it to your floor or wall and protect your valuables and weapons from fire and theft. If you want a secure, easily accessible place to keep a handgun for emergencies and yet not have to worry about the kids having access to the weapon, this is the unit you want.

PERFECT BEDSIDE HOLDER!
For years I've been using a mattress flap holder for my bedside pistol. This has worked marginally well as long as you don't lift the mattress or pull to hard on the sheets or move the bed at all. I found myself constantly check this "holster" to make sure enough of it remained under the mattress to keep it (and my loaded firearm!) from falling on the floor. It was cheap and adequate to hold my night gun, but certainly not as secure as I would have liked. I recently decided to upgrade to this GunVault SV500 and couldn't be happier. This is far more secure and reliable than the mattress flap I had before. I attached it to the wooden nightstand next to my bed and it is very accessible and easy to manipulate. I chose to purchase the keypad version instead of the biometric model and am very happy with that decision. The key pad is very easy to access and quick to open. You simply program in your own entry code and you can rapidly deploy the contained firearm as needed. I actually prefer to open the vault at bed time and allow the door to remain open all night, thus avoiding having to remember a code and enter it correctly when I'm awakened from a deep sleep in the middle of the night by that perverbial sound of uninvited footsteps in my home. I then close the vault in the morning before I leave for the day. I no longer have small children in the house so there is no need to leave the vault closed at night to avoid a youngster from inadvertently obtaining my loaded pistol. As to the vault's operation, it is easy to open when the code is entered. The 10 second light is a nice feature when the room is dark. There is an audible "thunk" sound when the door opens (which is somewhat loud in a quiet environment) but it is not overly obnoxious. You can set the keypad buttons to beep when depressed or select for them to be silent. A small green light will blink with the depression of each button. This too is a nice feature when viewing the keypad as you input the code. It should be noted that this vault is not intended to be a fireproof or theft-proof device. It is simply a vault (not a SAFE) designed to secure your loaded firearm from unintended use or handling. For this purpose, it works exceedingly well. Enjoy!

perfect but with some things to keep in mind...
I live with my wife, no kids, but sometimes we have others come over with their children. The last thing we need is an accident and years in jail for me for not properly securing my weapon, not including emotional trauma. Also, my neighborhood isn't the best. I needed a way to get to my weapon with ease and speed. Those two things led me to this piece of equipment. So here we go... Pros: the set up is super easy. It took me less than 20 minutes to set this up. It lets you set your own password, any way you want! That made it even better. The best part about that is you can make it nearly impossible for someone to guess. The password allows for two numbers at the same time to make one digit and an additional few more numbers. It's completely up to you. The holes on the side allow you to place this thing pretty much anywhere. I have mine hanging on the side of my bed, close to my head. It's impossible to see because I put the covers over it. It just looks like a big bump in the sheets. You would never guess and no one has guessed that I have a weapon there. I show people and they are shocked! I love it. The item drops the gun in seconds and allows for quick access. Once that password is entered a second and a half later, maybe less, that weapon is available. Some people might feel like that's too much time than for those people I say leave the gun on the counter loaded. A safety hazard and easy pickings for anyone wanting to steal it or use it on you. Besides that I understand why we want our weapons faster, every second counts but a second and a half is not that much time to grab a loaded weapon from anywhere! So from password to gun in hand - 3 seconds. nice! If I'm dead within those three seconds I never had a chance! The box comes with keys, just in case you forget the password. I find myself having to open it now and then because I don't think about the gun any more when people are over. I will forget the password. The keys allow for password reset as well. It has blinking lights to inform you that someone tried to open it. Tamper stuff. You can test this by pushing a short combination. It makes a beeping sound when you open it but that can be silenced very easily. The machine is simple, easy, and safe. Cons: Just one real one. The item is not a tank. If a burglar finds it and wants it they can take it, though not without struggle. Mine is attached to my wood bed frame so one could tear it out but not without some serious struggle. The person would have to take the whole box and figure out how to take the gun out later. Unless they have enough time to move my dead body over and use my tools to unscrew stuff and figure it out. Not cool! In terms of how difficult it would be to open it after the whole thing is taken I would say not difficult at all. However, and keep this in mind, if someone is able to steal this than they would have stolen your gun anyway! So that's why I say this is not a big con. I see people complaining that its not thick enough metal and so on. Sure, for some its not, but I'm not a ninja or stock piling serious weaponry. I have a handgun that I need secured and quick access to, so this works. 2nd con: it takes batteries and they don't come with it! It felt like Christmas morning. I was so excited but had to wait to run to the store to get batteries!!! The batteries will last forever because they only power the little light you see when you push the buttons and the light that shines after the box opens. The lights are dim and could not be seen beyond that room or space. If someone was in my hallway I wouldn't be concerned with them seeing the small lights since I will be sending them to the bigger light. lol. I crack myself up. 3rd con. It makes a noise when it opens...nothing serious. It doesn't wake my wife when I open it. (I practice for fun every now and then) Most people wouldn't even know what that sound is. It's just the lock mechanism unlocking and the door dropping down. My final thoughts: I regret nothing!!!!!! I recommend to all my friends. I actually do very little recommending because once they see it in action they all want one! For the hard core guy you might be disappointed because it's not steal and fastened with unbreakable metals. You might just need a safe or hidden mechanical wall stuff like the movies. For everyone else, you will be pleased.

Gets the job done..almost perfectly
I have never written a review on here before, but I felt the need to do so in this case, mostly to address some of the perceived problems that others have pointed out. This is not a safe against determined intruders, nor is it a fire safe, and I don't think the description is misleading on these facts. It is a safe that will stop kids and honest adults from getting the gun while keeping it ready to use if needed. If you want a serious gun safe, then don't buy this and then complain that it is thin metal (but not flimsy by any measure). After installing it (with the short screws on solid wood) I can say that it would take a heck of a blow from a sledge hammer to knock it loose, or a determined assault from a crow bar, but again, it is not designed to stop a determined attack. I will do the pro/con list to justify my 4-star rating. Pro- - Easy to install - from the box to mounted and fully operational in 25 minutes, including reading the manual. - Easy to program and change settings - If you can hold a small button down for 2 seconds at a time, you can program codes easily and change the sound settings. - Fairly quiet - I did not find it to be excessively loud, unlike some of the reviewers. I have never owned another safe of this type, so I can't compare to anything else. A slight mechanical whirring and then it drops open. If you catch it before it bottoms out, there is very little noise. - Roomy - This will differ based on your gun, but I have enough room for my SR9c and an extra mag tucked in on the opposite side from my draw so I can keep 28 rounds ready to go. Con Picky button pushing - The only thing that bothered me enough to take a star away is the pickiness of the code entering. I first chose a code that had a lot of two or three-button combos and was successful in opening it about 75 percent of the time. If you are off by the smallest amount of time in pressing both or all of the buttons, it does not count it. After some practice, I could get it almost all of the time, but how reliable is that going to be if (God forbid) my life depends on getting it open the first time and I am rushing and adrenaline is pumping? I did end up including some combos in the code because it would be too easy for my young daughter to randomly get it open if it was just four single digits, but I had to sacrifice reliability for safety. I do understand that they could not be too lax on this, but I think the balance could be shifted just a hair towards giving the button pusher the benefit of the doubt. Aesthetics - The design requires that the unit be hung on the bracket using built-in hooks. Great design for ease of installation, but it requires that it hang down and not be flush with the top of the bracket after installation. Not a big deal, but a little unpleasing to my OCD side. I hated to take away a star since I like it so much, but I feel that the button problem affects one of the core purposes of the product - Quick access in an emergency. I would still recommend it, however. Finally, if you are concerned about the people saying it is too loud, or the light is too bright, here's a reality check. As much as I like to imagine myself as Liam Neeson going rogue and blasting my daughter free from sex traffickers, this is not the case. This is not a product for black ops agents, it is a product for responsible gun owners with families. If we have to draw a gun against a person to defend ourselves in our homes, a light or a whirring is the least of our problems. It is a great product and the price is right.

I like it
Appears to be a really great way to keep a gun accessible and out of the hands of little kids. I'm under no impression that this will stop a burglar from stealing my firearm (hopefully the concealed location with help with that), but it's certainly sturdy enough to keep my young son from gaining access under normal circumstances. It's better to think of this as a strong deterrent, not something that will stop a determined individual. Depending on the age of your children, their behavior, and your trust in them, this may or may not be right for you. A large flathead screw driver would open this in minutes, if not seconds. The safe I received works exactly as you would expect. Enter a code and the drawer drops down presenting the firearm. I find the safe opens reliably after entering my personalized code. I found it very easy to customize my personalized entry code and to turn off the key tones. I have not attempted to turn on the tamper settings (will stop excepting codes after 20+ failed tries to open it and will notify you if someone has attempted to open the safe), but like the idea that these feature exist. I mounted my safe to the wall in a concealed location, putting two screws into a stud, and using heavy drywall anchors for the other two screws. I did not use the smaller screws that came with the safe, I used significantly longer and thicker screws I already had on hand. The safe feels very securely mounted, and I have no concerns that it would come loose over time. I'm not sure how I'd feel with the much smaller screws provided. My only issue with the safe is that you need to be patient while entering your code. You can't just key in your entry as fast as you want, but need to wait about half a second between keys. That doesn't seem like a big deal, but in the event you need your gun, you may not remember to be a little patient or you might just have a hard time judging your timing. This could slightly delay access to your gun, which could be a big problem. This can be overcome by simply making all the entry keys after the first entry the same (ex. "3, 2, 2, 2" OR "4, 2+4, 2+4, 2+4"). If you enter in a code too quickly you can just keep pushing the same key/keys until it registers all the entries and unlocks the safe. There have been some criticisms regarding the battery dying and the owner being unaware, which is a significant issue that could impact reliable access to your firearm. I bought a lithium 9v for longer life, but plan to change it out every 6 months. I'll test the safe occasionally to make sure the battery is still working (if that battery dies you can still open the safe using the key, but this wouldn't be ideal for quick or reliable access). If the battery doesn't last 6 months I'll be pretty discouraged and report back, but I expect it will last at least that long.

Love it!
This review is for the manual combination keypad. NOT the biometric version. I bought two of these, one for each side of the bed. I use the same combination for both. I like the idea of this type of vault being an arms reach away from where I sleep. I like the way it's mounted so it's almost impossible for a burglar to walk away with it. I wish I knew each vault came with a different set of keys and they are numbered. I would have requested two with the identical series key. That way I don't have to have two sets of keys to worry about, instead of one. The key is only used for back up. For example, you forgot your combination or the battery went dead, although, according to the manual, you'll get a warning when the battery starts to run low. One neat feature I found is the ability to check if someone tried to open the vault in my absence and entered the wrong combination. Say, the kids have been playing behind your back trying to guess the combination. There's a way to check for that and it only takes 5 seconds. Very cool. Since I told my kids to never touch the vaults, I will actually be able to check if they are truly complying with this request. Overall, I really think these are worth the piece of mind they give knowing they are close by and easily accessible, yet out of the reach of kids or guests. This is the first gun safe/vault I bought and what I really like about it the most is that the door pops open and the gun is positioned so it can be retrieved without delay. One last thing I wanted to mention. When you put the combination in at normal speed everything works fine. Now, practice putting in the combination and pretend you're panicked and you'll notice if you put the code in too fast the vault will not accept it. So when the adrenaline is running and you're trying to get to your gun, pace yourself.. By this I don't mean that you have to enter it slowly, just don't try to go too fast, is all. Just thought that's something everyone should be aware of. If you practice this you'll know what I mean. I would highly recommend this to my family/friends.

Solid, Secure, and Fast Access Gun Safe
Solid, Secure, and Fast Access Gun Safe This GunVault drop-down pistol safe really impressed me from the start. The design is compact and easy to mount, yet it feels solid and secure once installed. The steel construction gives you confidence that it will deter quick tampering, and the padded interior helps keep your handgun protected from scratches. What I like most is the patented No-Eyes keypad. After just a few practice runs, I could open it in the dark by touch alone—no fumbling around. The door drops down smoothly and gives you quick access, which is exactly what you want in a home defense situation. The keypad beeps can be turned off, which I found useful for nighttime access without drawing attention. Installation was straightforward; the mounting hardware included worked fine for me. The safe runs on batteries, so I’ll be keeping an eye on those, but I like that there’s a backup override key just in case. Capacity is ideal for one full-size handgun and an extra mag, but not much more. That makes it great for bedside or desk use, though not a general storage safe. Bottom line: A well-made, reliable quick-access safe. Perfect for keeping a handgun both secure and ready when you need it.

A safe in place, that's just not a safe
I'm usually not much of a negative reviewer, but I figured this might help people considering this product. First, I installed it into the side of my nightstand and it was pretty simple, no issues. I did not have a 9-volt battery at the time, so I tightened the thumbscrews on the bottom and kept the key out of reach. A few weeks ;ater, I went to install the battery, which must be done within the safe, of course. I went to unloosen the thumbscrews and they just turned upon themselves... continuously. Ok, so maybe the ends could be held tight with pliers from within the bottom of the safe. I opened the safe with the key and tore out the foam padding. I could just replace that with a little bit of super glue and even cut out my own foam padding if need be. However, once I got to the bottom of the safe, my fears were confirmed and there was nothing to grab. The end of the screws terminated before the bottom plate of the safe. So, now I have an electronic safe that cannot be used electronically. I was kind of mad with myself for not waiting and just putting in the 9v battery in the first place, but realized I would come to the same problem when the battery needed to be replaced eventually. Bottom line, it seems a lot of people have had a luck with this safe, which is great. Maybe mine was defective, who knows. Either way, I'm going to go back to old reliable: a quality Pelican safe with a combination lock on the nightstand. Sure, not quite as quick to get to as an combo electronic safe like this, but it's foolproof for the most part. And, if you were wondering why I don't contact the manufacturer or ask for a refund, I figure since I can't return it, since it's bolted to my nightstand and cannot be removed since the interior safe mechanism is unremovable (due to the thumbscrews not unwinding), I may as well keep it where it is and not tell my wife. She was not happy as it was since I was putting holes in the nightstand... if the safe is removed, the holes will be obvious and... you know the rest of the story.

Super Waffentresor

Very secure, easy to hide
I was able to install mine into a double stud, so all four bolts are sunk deep into wood. No ones getting that off my wall. Narrow enough to fit behind my bed. I turned off the beeps so a would be burglar wouldn't know what I am doing. I think this is a great safe. Only thing that would be nice, as a Canadian I am not allowed to store my firearm loaded. I would have liked it if there was a slot or place I could store more clip. I don't want to leave it ontop of the vault as I have a young son that I don't need playing with that. But other than that. Great product!

works well, meets storage laws
Works well, there is a slight delay from entering code to opening, maybe around 1 sec or less. Very simple to use, has a mute mode which I like, as I end up ripping the speakers out any gun safes that beep anyways. can be mounted a number of ways, I have it mounted to bedside drawer, fits a fullsize M&P with just enough room to squeeze a mag beside the grip. Meets the requirements for safe storage in Canada with a loaded mag outside of gun which is a plus. I bought this from the seller Coinkosz who shipped it from the USA, there was a hiccup with UPS where they wanted to charge $70+ COD for brokerage/taxes/duty (shows up when you track it with a UPS account, lets you pre-pay). I contacted them and they replied very quickly on a Saturday morning and they worked out everything with UPS. It was delivered the following Monday without issue. They were extremely polite/courteous and prompt in their dealings with me. I highly recommend them if they sell more.

excellent gun vault
excellent gun vault, compliant with Canadian law, good quality and very functional it fits a full size pistol and at least 2 mags (mags loaded with ammo but not in the gun - Canada) I had to cut out the foam to make space for 2 mags under the gun. The led light is very helpful. Overall: highly recommended product.
