5 Stars - great book for those interested in the typical life of a leopard in the Mara
I've seen the extensive reviews that others have written. Some state that the book is a bit repetitive as it describes the playful antics of the cubs in this story. I agree that in some respects, it can be repetitive. But honestly, the life of a cub and its mother IS repetitive. These beautiful animals, basically, sleep, hunt, eat, breed, play as cubs and try to to avoid lions, hyenas, baboons and other dangerous predators, especially while raising their young. The author does a terrific job in allowing you to visualize exactly what is happening with every paragraph, while learning a tremendous amount about these elusive animals. Jonathan Scott also appears in Big Cat Diary, where you can see his enthusiasm for what he has done his entire adult life. His story comes to life with each paragraph and I think most people who share an interest in life on the Mara, will enjoy this book immensely. I recommend it.

... and Angela Scott have put together a labor of love in this wonderful book
Jonathan and Angela Scott have put together a labor of love in this wonderful book. Jonathan's recollections of his favorite leopard Half-Tail are told with love for this cat as he makes her come alive for us. He is also honest about both triumphs and tragedies so you learn more about what you saw on Big Cat Diary. The photography by Angela is also stunning. This is a book to keep and to occasionally read again.

Big Cat Diary primer
This book was not what I expected. Instead of pictorial descriptions of cats, I was able to read marvelous prose about the day to day life of a leopard family. It was infinitely interesting and well written. Highly recommended.

Great complement to the original edition
This new edition of "The Leopard's Tale" provides an exciting update about the lives and adventures of the leopards of the Masai Mara in Kenya, originally told by Jonathan Scott in his 1985 volume. The new edition includes all the original text plus new introductory notes (and a preface by Simon King) and two wonderful epilogues that tie the original stories to the present day situation of the Mara's leopards. Most of the pictures that illustrated the original edition are not included. Instead, two colour inserts provide a collection of excellent photos summarising the history of Mara leopards from the early 1980s to this day. I strongly recommend to buy this book but also to look for a copy of the original edition. The new edition is in pocket book format which makes it so convenient for taking it with you on your next trip to Africa, but the old one is more of a coffee-table volume, and certainly worth treasuring. All in all, the passion of the Scotts for the bitg cats of Africa shines through the book and makes you see these felines as real-life characters with very individual lives, Never indulging in anthopomorphism but neither detracting from the intensity and depth of their lives. A true joy.

Delightful and charming look at the life of Leopards
Jonathon Scott has an eminently readable style of writing, and his passion and knowledge are very much in evidence. The book is full of delightful photographs and has a few superb pencil drawings. The reader is transported to Kenya's Masai Mara, one of the greatest wildlife areas in the World, and immediately feels familiar with the Leopard's that Mr Scott follows. It is easy to forget how difficult it is to track and find these often elusive big cats, but Mr Scott has the knack, and more importantly the Leopards are at ease in his presence. That they are relaxed can be seen by their indifference to the camera and so we witness some truly remarkable scenes ( I will not spoil it here by saying more). The reader follows the cats through many aspects of their daily routine and the pages melt away all too quickly. This book will delight anyone who is interested in these beautiful animals and is still fresh and relevant despite the passage of time since it was written. One small crticism is that the paper is not of the highest quality, but do not let that deter you from purchasing this book.

Beautiful book
The book is in very good condition although 35 years old - and the text and photos are what I would expect from Jonathan Scott - excellent. The book arrived with the other one I ordered and was delivered on time.
