Clean, Strong, Smooth, and Quiet
I will update this review in time. I just got this saw, and wanted to furnish what I know. For now, I would just like to say:This saw is great. It has all the power of the two stroke Stihls and Husqvarnas, but its so much quieter and cleaner. I've used Stihls and Husqvarnas my whole career, until these Mini 4 Strokes were invented. The manual states that it is 4.1 horsepower. It seems comparable to the others in power. It's cleaner, though! Unlike other saws, when you leave this saw running nearby in between cuts, the exhaust doesn't choke you nearly as bad. Also, it sounds and smells like a go cart, which is kind of cool. At idle, it runs smooth, and is pretty quiet. The quieter 4 stroke may deceive you when cutting, because you don't realize it's more powerful than it sounds. It cuts fast, looks to be made very well, and seems like it will hold up on the job. The five-stage air cleaning system seems to be superbly thought out, as well, which should also keep the saw reliable. I love how easy it is to just put regular fuel in it too, instead of mixing gas. The manual doesn't state that you have to use premium fuel; just unleaded gas.(I got on a website to find gas stations in my area that have non-ethanol gas though. I know from experience, and from experts that ethanol in gas eats away at rubber small engine components, and causes condensation in them, leading to all kinds of engine trouble.)Mine saw is made in Japan, which I like. I don't care for China. The only bone I have to pick, is that it took me probably over twenty or thirty pulls to get it started out of the box, after priming and choking properly. I can usually start most saws in about three pulls. When warm, it has taken me at least five pulls to start, but it's not broken in yet. My local Makita rep has been AWOL for a year or so, so I've given up on him for help. Usually, Makita stands behind their products, so I'll have to contact the national office directly with any questions.

Kicks butt. Cuts concrete.
The media could not be loaded.  This saw makes cutting concrete a breeze. The water system works great and keeps dust from going everywhere (including your lungs), and it’s SOOO much better not having to keep mixed fuel on hand. This thing is a 4 stroke, so you just put regular gas in it. I haven’t used it to cut steel or anything yet, but it’s plenty strong so I can’t imagine it would struggle with chopping through rebar or anything else.

The media could not be loaded. Gracias !!

For the money I think it’s a great deal
I bought this to replace my old two-stroke model. It is very quiet compared to the two-stroke. It does not rev as high takes a little bit longer to cut but not enough to affect the length of a job. For the money I think it’s a great deal

This saw starts easy and is pleasant to use compared to 2 cycles. Very happy with this purchase.

love the 4 stroke
I purchased this 4 stroke saw to replace the almost new Stihl saw that my one of my guys blew up by not using the proper gas/oil mix. The saw came right away, and we immediately put it to use cutting a bunch of concrete sidewalk squares. The saw performed excellent with plenty of power and actually handled better and more accurately than our old saw. I know it cost more but it works better and I don't have to be concerned about somebody not properly mixing gas and oil. We even had to do some cutting for another crew on a project as their 2 cycle saw had broken down. I am comforted knowing that Makita also stands behind their products.

not ready for prime time
So jazzed to hear about the four stroke cut-off that I purchased it without any hesitation. I have three paver crews with two cut-offs on each crew that are cutting all day. I have owned about 20 saws in the past ten years and compared every major brand of cut-off made. For starters, this tool works as described: quieter, good power, weighs about the same, idles nicely. Unfortunately, what can't be tolerated from the commercial stand point is poor starting each time and fussy rev up - especially from a brand new saw. We run our saws wide open and start/stop often. I cant afford, or bear to observe, down time and job stall from as saw that doesn't immediately respond. We should agree that one trial review does not make a scientific sample -- I can still easily recommend a Makita 2 stroke and love my assorted Makita tools. In my opinion, I will try again the four stroke edition a few generations down the road after they dial in the reliable start.

With about 300 hours of usage now it work even better than when it's was new
This is a 4 stroke power cutter. Compare to a two stroke model this one is much more efficient and economical for the same power. About three time less fuel consumption. It's true what they say, in about 500 hours of usage you will pay for the machine just with the gas. It's also a million time less polluting. No smoke, no odours and less engine noise. With about 300 hours of usage now it work even better than when it's was new. So far no strap no bearing and the triple filter system is not even dirty (We always use wet cutting). Reliable like a wood stove! We higly recommend this product.
