UNTIL you sign up, get a sponsor....
Comments on this book or plan are NILUNTIL you sign up, commit and have a sponsor you really have no room to comment.Thought abstinence would be easy for me, why? NO REAL APPETITE, my life eating choices were around my caffeine breaks. Had no real hunger and lived off of the rush of one main stimulant and food was "on the run". AND was abstinent in many areas, had self control and had NO IDEA what this plan could reveal about the inner sanctions of one's soul.Had my sponsor share a thought one day; she said "Brenda, if you're honest with the food then you're honest with everything else" YES what you consume reveals the REAL you.Had the privilege of meeting this precious author and founder. She use to practice at my hospital. As medical professional you see so much sorrow. She was involved in counseling for the future Gastric Bypass patients and Lap Band clients. Eventually her program was phased out due to funding. Yes so much easier to algorithm to quick surgery for $$. We RX symptoms and rarely get to the root problem in today's medical world...sighBUT TO THE POINT; sign up for this program, get yourself a sponsor and DISCOVER another facet of transformation. Possibly the missing link for you...it was for me.Shalom shalom

Food Addict and bulimic finally in recovery and free........
My name is Jeanie Smith - Food Addict. I'm 64 years old and have been bulimic most of my life. Nothing has ever worked to help, not even 3 different treatment centers. After the last treatment center a little over 3 years ago, I found Kay Sheppard's books. I found myself in her books. I finally had an answer if I choose to do what the book said and I did, I desperately wanted to live. Like most people when they read it, I thought it was too restricting, but in reality, being in my active disease was what was restricting. This book and food plan set me free. I thank God everyday for Kay Sheppard's research. There is a Internet support group too. Just go to Kay's web site. In conclusion, Kay's books are the best description of food addiction and recovery as far as this addict is concerned. If you're tired of all the diets and think you might be addicted to food, read her books. This is not a diet, it's a recovery.........................................................Fast forward 3 more years. I'm still following Kay's food plan. It's was 6 years in August. I can't say enough about it. It saved my life and gave me a life. Following the food plan is just routine now. My life as a bulimic is in the past. If you are reading this, please go get Kay's book and give it a try. Watch a miracle happen - yours.

The best book for people who are serious about recovery from food addiction.
I was first introduced to Kay Sheppards food plan when she wrote her first book "From The First Bite". I am someone in long term recovery from food addiction for over 27 years. I highly recommend this book for people who are serious about getting clean and sober off food. This book covers its all from the inside out. It is a great tool and guide into the workings of addiction with food and how sugar and flour to me are the lesser of the refinement of alcohol. Terming the word foodaholic. It changed my life, and more than anything it educated my mind. This is not a have your cake and eat it too book. This is a real deal get off the drugging with food and into a mental and physical recovery so that food isn't the power in your life.

Having joined a 12 step program for food addicts that allows shredded wheat, I was curious about this book. It seems to follow the FAA party line. Gives very valuable insights into food addiction and recovery but I think it is to fanatical in its war on wheat, minuscule amounts of alcohol, and emphasis on rotations of veggies (to prevent addiction to rutabegas)! If you are fat, you can either be an active food addict (misery/slow suicide by spoon) or recovering food addict enjoying life but weighing your food and focusing on spirituality rather than self-centerdness with anger, anxiety, and resentments. The choice is yours.

A REAL solution.....Don't miss this book!
I have suffered from compulsive overeating for 48 years. I have tried Weight Watchers, OA, Jenny Craig, liquid dieting, rice, beans, water...You name it I have tried it. When I started to read this book (mind you grudgingly) I was absolutely enthralled. Language was every day and simple to understand and concepts which would be absolutely ridiculous to a "normal" eater made absolute sense to me. I am actually enjoying learning about myself. The more I learn, the more I understand. I realize that I can finally learn to "eat to live" rather than "live to eat." If you are a warm fuzzy, and are tired of reading the medical jargon and fancy words, please do yourself a big favor and buy this book. If you are seriously looking for help with your compulsive overeating, this program coupled with OA is a miracle. Don't waste anymore time reading about this.GO AND DO IT!!!!!

Excellent book ...life saving for anyone struggling with Obesity
Bought another copy as soon as I read mine ...for my sister and am so very grateful that following a Food Addicts program as described in this book I have lost 20 kg and never need to feel hungry. PLUS you get wisdom and insight about how sugar, flour and excess quantities are killing many of us who have this alcoholic like metabolism and way of life. THIS IS NOT A DIET BOOK ...it brings home the lifelong nature of this disease which is progressive if not handled like the author describes...yet also gives clear food and eating guidelines.Best of all for me is the explanation of the SPIRITUAL solution here...not religious but spiritual as in the 12 Step programs.I am an author and a self help therapist and this is well written and useful for me and my clients. Better by far than the author's other book on Food Addiction which I read first.

Food addiction - one bite too many and a thousand not enough
This is an excellent guide to dealing with food addiction. Addiction is not a sign of character weakness. This book explains that food addiction is a disease and needs very careful handing. How to do this is outlined very well in the book. There is a food addiction meeting in Hope House, Foxford, Co Mayo every Monday night at 8pm including bank holidays. Reading this book is an excellent thing to do before starting recovery work such as the food plan and the 12 steps.

Get Real
I gave this book over 100 pages of reading before putting it in the bin.It describes an unrealistic system of total abstinence of sugar flour etc.If you follow it you will become obsessed with ingredients and weighing etc. You will loose weight though.Surely it's just replacing one addiction with another!!!
