Janome AirThread 2000D Professional Overlocker

Upgraded from my singer basic overlocker and this one is great. I’ve not had to change it from the default settings to get perfect results on a variety of fabrics. Easy to thread the over and under threads with the air feeder and the built in needle threader works well once you get the hang of using it.

I am very impressed with this product. The threading system is amazing, and it is so easy to set up and operate. The waste tray that attaches to the machine is useful, and my only criticism of it is there is a slight gap between the tray and the cutting side of the machine causing fine waste to fall in between. As a result there is always a build up of fluff and thread inside the workings at the front of the machine, requiring regular cleaning. After using it for a recent project requiring a lot of overlocking I felt that this was more than my previous machine that did not have this tray. However this is my only criticism. I cannot fault it for any other reason, and look forward to trying the other finishes that the machine is capable of achieving.

Why did i wait for this, could not believe how quick and easy to use/thread on this overlocker and the quality of stitches is so superior to my old overlocker from ‘bröther’, well worth spending more on a machine which delivers the goods, and allows my project time to be actually sewing and not constantly having to rethread.

This overlocker is super easy to thread which is something of a daunting task on the older dial based models. The air threader is the work of genius. It creates perfect overlocked edges without puckering the material, has a nice light to see where you are going and plenty of functions for rolled hems etc. The only negative is that it does not take the large, industrial thread cones - you need to unwind a bit from each before they fit properly otherwise they rub against each other and snap the thread. However, a quick whizz on the sewing machine to make bobbins and they work perfect plus you get matching bobbins.

I have a secondhand (very old) overlocker that has caused me no end of stress over the years whenever the thread snapped or when it needed rethreading. I was worried that paying the extra for an air threading overlocker wouldn’t necessarily feel worth it once it arrived but I couldn’t have been more wrong! The enclosed dvd clearly explains how to set it up and I quickly mastered the threading. I couldn’t believe the thread had gone through so quickly and effortlessly! I chose to buy from Couling Sewing Machines as they have been so good in the past sending me spare parts to help me keep my old machine ticking over and again I wasn’t disappointed with their service - the machine was delivered far quicker than forecast by Amazon. If you’re hesitating about buying this Janome overlocker, go for it! I’ve just had a wonderful stress-free weekend of sewing and I’m really pleased with the results.

My Janome Air Threader 2000D was broken as delivered, supposedly new from the factory. Because it was a birthday present from me to me, I didn't open it in time to discover and understand the fault, which was a misalignment of one air tube. It was found to have been repaired already, presumably having been previously returned under guarantee by an earlier purchaser, but poorly repaired. This meant I was unable to exchange it under the 30 day return policy, once it was found to be unfit for purpose. In addition because it had apparently come from an overseas supplier, there was no recourse to purchaser's rights. As a consequence, I am still waiting for it to be repaired, at my expense. I cannot review how the machine works as I have not been able to use it yet. My advice is to buy from a reputable UK shop, where your purchase will be covered by our consumer rights. If you have to buy online as I did, check the country it's coming from and be aware you have only 30 days to return it if faulty. This is a modified review, as requested.
