The best healing book I have ever read
I am Terri, William Pritchard's widow, This was his sight that we both bought from. I have been severely depressed since his death and I have been searching for three years to get some real help. This book has helped me to begin to heal. There were many, many other benefits that I thought had been addressed previously. This is truly a book for everyoneInvisible Heroes was recommended to me by a young woman who does body work. I am 57 years old and have been reading self help books for a long long time. I knew this woman had great insight, but I was blown away by Bellaruth Naparstak's book. I think this is truly one of the most informative, compassionate, well written books I have ever read. I read the book quickly because it was so fascinating and real. I feel like I was given a special key to help me heal. I have bought another copy to share with so many who would enrich their lives significantly.I would nominate this woman for President and our country would change for the better. People think that only war vets and firemen and policemen and ER docs and nurses have PTSD. I have recommended this book to most everyone I know. It has unlocked a tremendous healing in me. I wish I could give it to the world. Her Cd of PTSD is essential after reading this book. the answers are here. God Bless Bellaruth.

a great resource
I read this several years ago and keep it around my office so I can copy chapters for my clients. People who have been carrying trauma around for years and don't know why they can't "just get over it" will find plenty of reasons why not here. Naparstek explains in great detail what is happening to the body, mind and spirit during and after trauma. Some reviewers very wisely put the book aside when they found the stories too hard to handle. That's when a victim should see a therapist because trauma that is not dealt with will never go away and will cause all kinds of problems in the future. I know because I see it every day in my work as a therapist. As for the criticism of the guided imagery as too woo-woo, "to each his/her own." It has so far helped many, many people in the form of CDs that people can listen to and calm themselves. Naparstek isn't the only one who produces such CDs but her company is one of the best.If you have suffered from one trauma or many, help yourself to stop suffering. Find any healthy methods which work for you and find freedom.

Great book!
There I was: thinking the introductory sections of the book a bit too long / mere padding / unnecessary. Only till I skipped over those chapters, and read the remainder of this amazing book --- which, as promised, introduced me to a novel, highly effective way to heal my depression-induced trauma, which I never learned about --- did I realize the relevance of knowing your "enemy", so to speak, before devising a truly effective way to combat it, which was what the introductory section detailing the symptoms of PTSD was all about. Definitely recommending this book to anybody also trying to look for an effective way to combat their trauma. Guided imagery works wonders (even though, for I, myself, I had to use it in a slightly more tempered manner, by reason of the intense emotional effect it had on me) and this book is a wonderful starting point to get that healing process going.

Great Book!
Anything by Belleruth Naparstek is great! I was introduced to her recordings 13 years ago to help heal PTSD. It’s an ongoing process so I continue to listen to and read her material.Book was used but in great condition. Seller is great to deal with.

Helps me understanding my healing and why other approaches did not work
Was six months into therapy when this book was recommended. I use guided imagery/mindfulness and some EMDR. I have PTSD and suddenly began in my 50's to dissociate. Since I would like to be able to continue to work and enjoy life, I am grateful for the research and therapies in this area. After several false starts with different therapies types, my current therapy team uses something similar to this book. What the book helped me realize is my reactions were normal for the situations at the time, and the behaviors are no longer helpful. It helps nurture you through the long frustrating process of learning new coping and being kind to yourself while you are learning. It is wonderful to have hope and some understanding.

Excellent Book, Immediately Helpful
I immediately found the book helpful in understanding that even 40 years after an event, I could be experiencing PTSD. The condition comes in many shapes and sizes. The scripts, even when I read them for the first time, were soothing and helpful. I keep the book by bed and when I awake from a bad dream, I read and re-read some of the scripts. The book was recommended by a therapist at the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing, Washington DCHowever the book is overly long and could be reduced to half its size.

Highest praise
I listened to the audiobook first, then read the book. Both formats seemed very accessible to me. As a survivor of trauma, and one who has worked with trauma survivors for many years, I found this book to be comprehensive, thorough, riveting, compassionate, reassuring, and ultimately very positive and inspiring. Belleruth Naparstek writes beautifully and clearly, and it's so obvious that she's committed to getting correct and up-to-date research to her readers. No shortcuts, no filler, no superficiality--just 100% valuable and in-depth material. Highest praise, recommended for both professionals and lay persons with interest in trauma.Mary Lee Moser

Amazingly good
Outstanding. This is a life changing sort of a book. I have read much on trauma, worked in neuropsychology and helped people with trauma. This is undoubtably a groundbreaking work that brings together all that is known about trauma, synthesises it in to a new whole, adds to it the unique brilliance of Belleruth Naparstek - the woman is a pyschotherapist, but I believe there are ways in which her intuition is so advanced she works almost at the psychic medical psychic level - and provides the first, best meaningful guide to a proces out of PTSD.Understanding where you have truly come from, understanding why you are caught in the horrible processe that you find yourself, means you will deeply connect with and understand the route map out, which she provides.Trauma comes in many forms and she addresses them all. I repeat, a brilliant work that changes lives. Don't hesitate - if you suffer from trauma and all its subtle or not so subtle consequences, or have a loved one who does, this is one of the very first and most important books to read.Belleruth, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

I was hoping to buy another copy but despite the original price being £12.99 - they are for sale here at considerably more - why
Superb - I have suffered from PTSD and was recommended this by my therapist way back when it was first published. I bought a copy for everyone in the family to help them understand my condition. Unfortunately a near death accident brought my PTSD back and I am having to undergo therapy again. I have shown this book to my therapist who agrees it is a fantastic resource; and has borrowed it.

Useful guided imagery
Although the book is well written and explains the process and recovery of PTSD it perhaps was not the right time for me to be reading it. I found myself skipping sections that I could see were dreadful experiences from trauma survivors. The guided imagery techniques in the last sections could be useful but I prefer to listen to CD`s, I could not imagine recording myself reading these to play back and listen to.
