Does the wolf coffee maker release a lot of steam after brewing

Yes, makes steam, very noisy and will begin to leak out the bottom after a while.  Get the Mr Coffee  or anything other than this coffee maker.  The absolute worst coffee maker on the market.  All the glowing reviews of this thing are from people who simply can’t admit they bought a $500 piece of Chinese junk with red knobs and a Wolf badge.

what is the sze of the paper filters. Is there a "permanent" filter and where to find?

It does not have a permanent filter for the coffee. Water filtration only. I ordered a #4 permanent filter. If it works I will post.

Question 3

I don't always want to brew a full pot. Is this machine ok to make 2 cups only? Does quality suffer?

According to the instructions, yes but I have never made only two cups.  I will say this. I didn’t think I would like the thermal carafe  as opposed to the glass one that sits on a heated pad for two hours, but much to my surprise, I do .  I can come home after my ten hour day, pour a cup of the morning’s coffee and it is Luke warm and doesn’t taste like mud. If I put it in the microwave for twenty seconds it’s perfect.  Mind you, I do use cream in my coffee. I also use Starbucks coffee.  I have had several high end coffee makers through the years and so far I like this one the best and not just for the coffee it makes but the ease of putting in the grounds and the water and not having to pull the unit out from under the cabinet, lifting the lid and pouring in the water. Now, if the life of this coffee maker out weighs the cost of it, I will be ecstatic.  Oh, one more thing, it looks awesome on my counter.  I know this is more information then you asked for, but I hope it helps.

Can you run the coffee maker without the water filter?  I will use filtered water from my frig so isn’t necessary.

I also use filtered water but the system filter will provide longevity to the coffeemaker. The system reminds owners when the filter needs to be changed. How cool
